If the paying attendance today at Lingfield doesn’t set a new (low) record, I will be amazed: horizontal freezing rain accompanied by a tasty hurricane.
I’m setting the spread at 125-135 and there’s not much upside.

reminds me of 2 years running I got stranded in snow on the 31st of January each time …on my way home from leafy …Those days annual members got over 100 meetings plus the same in reciprocals ….free attendance in Wolver , all for 90 quid
Id say you got an average crowd then of 300/400 on a quiet wed..
Nowadays I cant imagine fighting the m25 to get there ….

A nationwide campaign by practiced punters is needed to inform those thinking of wasting their money in betting or attending at AW courses of the stupidity of such activity.
While people continue to support AW racing in the face of all the evidence of it’s thoroughly corrupt nature, it will continue to fester.
Do we honestly believe that the Curley affair was an isolated case? Every single day of the week horses are not running on merit or are bolting up having had their true ability hidden in previous races.
I know there are members here who will go to their graves believing in the pure, unsullied nature of their sport but in the real world there is mounting scepticism. Add your voices to the chorus or watch racing going down the tubes.

There have been races at Southwell where none of the runners have been trying with some jockeys whipping horses other than their own to drive them to the front.
It’s reached a farcical point, only an idiot would bet at Southwell even from the comfort of their home.
I don’t know why I’m asking you this as you never answer questions put to you but, please tell us which races and jockeys are concerned?

Is it any surprise that AW attendances are slumping when there is a card like today’s at Southwell.
Open your Racing Post this morning and it looked like 7 races with 8 runners or more in each. Before the time of the first race it is down to 2 races of 8+ and those are a maiden and a seller.
I am sure that a lot of racegoers are like me in that they want to bet on horses at an each way price where they get 3 places for their money.
Unfortunately,Southwell is my quickest course to get to, but it’s attraction is diminishing rapidly and I now ask if it’s worth the effort to go when I can watch on ATR!
I had a letter from Leafy …inviting me to attend a free day in March , launch of summer membership …..exclusive facilities for the day etc …
Nice and thanks leafy …it was good to be a member 12 years ago when petrol was 82p a litre , racing was a whole lot better (dross then was 0/70),,,and it was a darn good place for me punting wise
12 years on I dont watch it , bet it , and no way am I going to brave the m25 at 1.29 a litre for class 7 , 6 , and 5 , with the odd class 4 on occasions
It must be a concern though for the bigger picture , as if punters dont want to go for whatever reason , then how long before they turn their backs on it for betting ???? thats the big one , my guess is not long , dross will have had its day in the near future , if banded racing bombed , then dross will also ….what will all these aw tracks in the pipeline do ??? put on good racing ???

With the modern trend of the top jump horses being wrapped up in cotton wool in their stables during jan feb I think the aw has missed a trick by not staging a 100,000 race every winter Saturday instead of this million pound race day on Good Friday.
It’s suddenly dawned on me: the bookies want this low-grade dross so that punters are driven to betting on the FOBTs. After all, the colour, excitement and "glamour" of a machine far supersedes the grey monotony of a day at Wolverhampton.
Not only do the bookies then have a guaranteed profit but they’ll soon have the perfect excuse to pull the plug on expensive racing pictures in betting shops. If racing only contributes, say, 10% of a betting shop’s turnover and the FOBTs 75%, why show racing at all? Rip down all that useless wall space where the Racing Post is displayed and cram in more FOBTs and SSBTs. Who needs racing, after all?

It’s kind of like that. Racing is there to secure the requirement that
betting
not gaming is the Primary Gambling Activity, even though gaming could provide the majority of profit. Here are some indicators of what constitues PGA below. Basically they need to fill time with betting events. Having said that one place put up 5 betfair terminals along with 4 FOBT and no over the counter at all. The were not granted licence as they did not constitute "sufficient facilities for betting", then later won on appeal, (so independents could make a comeback on that basis, LOL.) PGA requirement is not even in the 2005 Act, it has been conjured up by the Gambling Commission partly to stop Adult Gaming Centres from getting B2 FOBT’s.
1.10 Indicators of betting as primary gambling activity:
• offer of established core products (including live event coverage and bet range)
• provision of information on products and events
• promotion of gambling opportunities and products
• actual or expected use made of betting facilities
• size of premises
• delivery of betting facilities.I have posted this before so apologies for repeat ,,,
Betting shops today are mostly populated by gaming machine punters , very little slips for horses compared to last year or years previous years
however racing has reached that point where the followers of horse racing now bet online, either bookie or exchanges
Betting shops will continue to be mini casinos , racing will attract a shed load of internet/phone/ tablet bettors , its the way it is
Sure some old duffers like me will have the occasional ew double because we cannot help ourselves , but thats life
Funding of racing will carry on being a bookie benefit , until that golden day when someone , somwhere says no more , scaraps the current diatribe and we go for a tote PM system , then and only then will racing be funded properly , but please dont hold your breath , this sea change will not happen any time soon
