Whats going on?. Used to love the mix of top class jumps action and top class flat action on the same card……..arguably the best meeting of the whole year. Really cant understand the way racing is going. Change for changes sake?. Surely we can keep some tradition……………………..cant we?
October 1, 2013 at 17:17 #453186I think its great news, now I will have a whole meeting to enjoy instead of having to go home when the jumpings finished
October 1, 2013 at 18:28 #453195I’m all for it.
It’s meant to be the last day of the NH season (although obviously that line is now much more blurred than in days gone by) so I always thought it slightly incongruous that we were watching Flat group racing.
According to the Post, the Flat races have been moved to the previous day and will enjoy an increase in prize-money.
It may be a tacit admission that the Bet365 Gold Cup itself is of lesser quality than in days past and so the card requires a bit more ‘beefing up’ for jumps fans, who surely make up the majority of the crowd.

October 1, 2013 at 18:36 #453196My only worry is how much higher the entrance fee at Sandown will be now. Anything over £40 for the members enclosure and I’m voting with my feet and staying at home watching it on Racing UK.
October 2, 2013 at 09:52 #453235If the racing will be top drawer then it will be a forward step if not which i suspect it wont then it’ll be a backward step for me
October 2, 2013 at 11:26 #453247Tradition?
Like having the Last Post Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle on Derby Day (except The Derby used to be on a Wednesday) Saturday night at Market Rasen end the season and the Dimplex Tango Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot on Stewards’ Cup day, first Saturday in August start the new season, you mean

Nothing is forever in this ephemeral universe of ours, and one man’s tradition is another man’s innovation.
