I’d say Charles Byrnes was happy enough with Sea Of Thunder’s last run Sketti. He ran a decent race without getting competitive and there didn’t seem to be much confidence in him beforehand. I think Mount Benbulben will prove to be his biggest danger. I’ve always liked him and Gordon Elliott has already shown himself to be masterful at getting them ready for the festival.
Mount Benbulben is definitely a horse full of class. If his jumping has been ironed out come the day, I think he’ll take all the beating.
February 5, 2012 at 11:41 #389924Watch the benbulben race with ipsos and another half furlong and ipsos would have destroyed benbulben, his jumping is a little right too. As i said i am on sea of thunder but wouldnt be increasing my money on him, my opinion is he was murdered by several better horses and his form prior ro his seemingly awesome cheltenham display was ordinary too. I will just sit on what i have and attack ipsos once nrnb comes in. Unless Boston goes for it in which case it will be that monster.
February 11, 2012 at 02:14 #390709I love that Gordon Elliot seems to be keeping Mount Benbulben fresh for this. He’s a man who knows how to get winners at the festival, and I can see him reversing the form with his nearest rival, Boston Bob.
I just don’t fancy Fingal Bay, I don’t know why and I may live to regret saying this, but Hobbs this season reminds me of King a couple of years ago – a horrible season that needs forgetting after not having a single festival winner.
We shall see.
February 11, 2012 at 21:56 #390878Would have Boston Bob as a saver though
February 17, 2012 at 05:03 #391810Jesus christ. I’ve finally had a proper look at the Albert Bartlett. What in the name of all that is holy is Boston Bob doing at 5/1. 6/4 shot. Evens if this is confirmed as his target. Bloody hell, cannot believe I’ve been overlooking this. Just miles ahead of anything else.
February 17, 2012 at 09:03 #391821I did a massive load of work on this race two weeks ago and for me the race is his too!!!
Totally agree. i have had a couple of points on him but just wan a little more of a solid confirmation. Surely he has to go for this. His soft ground preference will be helped by the further distance and stamina make it key. His last race was something else in terms of performance.
I have Ipsos as second best and on my book should be about 10-1 so will be hitting him for a bit too. Fits the bill as a staying type the way he is niggled throughout and responds, classic staying hurdler.
But yes 6-4 should be the bob.
Surely he goes here????
February 18, 2012 at 18:24 #392285Lucinda Russell’s Brindisi Breeze put himself firmly into the Albert Bartlett picture with a convincing win at Haydock today. If there’s one concern it’s that he may need cut in the ground.
The same yard did have another potential contender for this Cheltenham contest in Nuts N Bolts, but I believe this one suffered a minor injury and is now likely to aimed at Punchestown in April.

February 18, 2012 at 18:36 #3922876/4 Boston Bob? Good luck with that – last time outstayed a soft ground plodder and a potentially better horse who didn’t get home in the ground. At this stage nothing to suggest he is a worldbeater which would be the case if he were actually 6/4. If Brindisi Breeze was trained by Mullins he would now be favourite.
February 18, 2012 at 20:27 #392318Boston Bob and Mount Benbulben to be the 2 in the frame come race day. I think Elliot will have his in rude health and could upset a few.

He gave it a nice talk up on The Morning Line this morning, very sweet on it. Definitely runs.
February 19, 2012 at 01:33 #392376I was assuming he’d be running, his recent silence had been speaking volumes for me. This is a really classy horse.
February 19, 2012 at 01:34 #392377You know where you stand with Gordon Elliot.
February 19, 2012 at 20:06 #392517What did everyone think of the facile success of Brindisi Breeze yesterday? Can’t help but think if he was trained by Nicholls or Henderson he’d be half the price he is now for this race?!

Part of that though is surely down to a trainers reliability and reputation to get a horse trained to the minute on the day ?
February 19, 2012 at 20:21 #392522Take that point but that can sometimes put you off winners ( talking out my pocket as yesterday was torn between him and Real Milan and went with the latter based on trainer etc )

Brindisi Breeze was the clear pick on RPR’s
Can’t remember exactly but he was between 7lb and 16lb clear of his rivals and had posted his rating with a comment of " very easily ". Looked a cracking bet to me.
In those conditions if you have front runner with more stamina than the Duracel bunny, they tend to do very well as it’s difficult coming off the pace in such ground. Same with Restless Harry and Giles Cross ( though i didn’t back those two )
February 24, 2012 at 00:08 #393310Apparently Nicholls said at the Exeter Preview Evening tonight that Prospect Wells is running in the Supreme because Graham Wylie (who owns him) said that his other horse Boston Bob is running in the Neptune.
