Really bad news coming through from Ditcheat. It is even more worrying that the statement is so vague. I hope nobody has hurt the horses and that there is not another equine disease outbreak…
December 17, 2012 at 19:15 #423313It does sound rather sudden, and quite worrying.
I just hope that initial fears work out to be not as serious, fingers crossed for the yard, connections and horse racing in general.
Best wishes to the yard and all connections and I hope that Big Bucks and Al Ferof, and the rest of the yard for that matter, are fine, well and in good health.
December 17, 2012 at 19:17 #423314The Racing Post tweets:
Big Buck’s owner Andy Stewart: "He has a tiny tear in one of his legs, so the best way is to let nature heal that."
It seems as though there is a minute chance of him making the World Hurdle.
December 17, 2012 at 19:30 #423315bad news not just for nicholls but for racing in general, big bucks being the stand-out draw for national hunt racing (with the possible exception of sprinter sacre)
al ferof would have hit a few king george backers hard too.
December 17, 2012 at 19:49 #423320My commiserations to connections. Bloody unlucky to lose both in one day – have they had a coming together or something fall near them ?
It was looking interesting for the trainers title but that’s a massive blow for Nicholls.
Thought Al Ferof had a cracking chance in the King George but i only ever bet on the day for that race.
December 17, 2012 at 20:43 #423327Wonder if connections of grand crus will be tempted to switch back to hurdles
December 17, 2012 at 21:36 #423335Terrible shame this for 2 fantastic horses. As John Hales said in a statement Al Ferof has age on his side and will have the King George and Gold Cup as next seasons’ aims. Let’s just hope we’ll see Big Buck’s race again.
December 18, 2012 at 01:03 #423358Really odd that both should suffer similar injuries around the same time.
I certainly don’t think Big bucks will be retired – it doesn’t sound that serious.
I guess this is the chance for Henderson to wrest the trainers’ title – he’s as short as 1/3.
