Got some spare badges for Aintree this evening if anyone interested. Email or text me.
May 15, 2009 at 11:04 #227772Current weather: Overnight there seems to have been a fair amount of constant rain. Still throwing it down as I write.
KMay 15, 2009 at 11:07 #227773Good to soft at moment.
9mm rain overnight, similar forecast up to middayMay 15, 2009 at 11:32 #227777David,
Some sceptical and suspicious members might be wary of your generous and kind offer but want reassurance that this isn’t like those free wine tasting timeshare apartment offers where they feel obliged to listen to the sales patter.
If you explain that it’s not a ‘sprat to catch a mackerel’ offer then I’m sure there will be some grateful souls on here.
Has your syndicate got a horse running tonight? Will the money be down?
KMay 15, 2009 at 12:12 #227788This isn’t the first time DP has generously offered free entrance tickets without conditions or an ulterior motive, Ken.
Nothing to worry about here.
May 15, 2009 at 12:21 #227790David invited me to Ayr in March when he had Lucky Nellerie as a syndicate runner. Very friendly and knowledgeable, no sales patter and a very enjoyable afternoon. Slightly spoiled when Lucky Nellerie hit the first, slipped on landing and was pulled up, but thankfully the horse recovered subsequently to win the Durham National.
I’m sure anyone meeting David will find him excellent company.

May 15, 2009 at 12:32 #227793That’s a very nice post, Rob, and well done, David.

May 15, 2009 at 13:34 #227813Further to Rob’s post, in the past David has very kindly given me owners badges for both Kelso and Newcastle (Comply Or Die’s Eider), without even being present at the races himself.
May 15, 2009 at 13:44 #227814Lovely, he sounds a really decent guy. I’m very tempted to go myself but imagine badges have gone by now. Oh well – serves me right for being a doubting Thomas!
KMay 15, 2009 at 14:12 #227823Hopefully I can give yours a test with my Quattrocento David. Lets hope they both come back safely
May 15, 2009 at 15:25 #227842Badges (and meal voucher) still available!
No ulterior motive or sales patter…just a shame to see them not used. (For what its worth, I think that "sales patter" and "hard sell" are a complete waste of time when selling shares in horses – there is enough potential for disappointment without making false promises!! Far better to simply provide the best quality that you can in an honest way & let people make their own minds up)
Thanks for kind comments guys.
Roddy – I quite fancy your horse tonight.
When one of ours runs, each owner gets a detailed race preview. Tonight we run
Galant Nuit
who is not syndicated (hence the spare badges);
Betdaq The Betting Exchange Handicap Chase, 3m 1f, Class 3, £7156.00 penalty
The Mildmay Course is a flat, LH sharp course of about 1½ miles round. Suits front runners..
The race
is a class 3, 0-135 handicap chase. Galant Nuits rating of 125 gets him a weight of 11st2lb.
The horse
Galant Nuit arrives here having not run since end of January. Nothing sinister in that. He was ready to go but plenty of abandonments prevented that. We then took opportunity to rest him up & freshen him. Still a young horse.
I bought him as a 3yo and he raced in juvenile hurdles. Ran well without winning. Last season he was leased to the Betfair ROA Club & ran in 1 hurdle & 4 chases. He won a beginners chase at Uttoxeter in November and was put up 15lb for doing so. He was subsequently beaten in better races at Cheltenham & Aintree. 3m is probably his trip and soft ground probably his requirement.
Jockey
Stable jockey Graham Lee takes the ride.
The Opposition
1. Non runner.
2. Love That Benny – Looks out of form at present. Down in ratings but still 5lb above his career high winning mark.
3. Non Runner
4. Wild Cane Ridge – This track should suit. He had looked to be out of sorts but his last run at Ayr showed some of the old spark & if jumping held up he could be a big player here.
5. Non Runner
6. Bob Bob Bobbin – another front runner. He won a veterans race at Chepstow in Jan & ran pretty well last time at Cheltenham (behind Boychuk). May be a shade high in weights but one for the short list.
7. Non Runner
8. Galant Nuit – Trip and ground ok. Comes from off the pace so track may not be ideal, but a strong pace will suit him. He jumps well (completed around Cheltenham & Newbury) and is in good nick. Looks to have a bit to find with a few of these though.
9. Temoin –Inconsistent sort. When he is good he is…..
10. Cossack Dancer – Ran a blinder in Topham Chase last time. Jumps & travels well (prominently). Looks very fairly weighted in my book. Interesting.
11. Aleron – Unspectacular but consistent. Will run his race & getting back towards his winning mark.
12. Never So Blue – won at Bangor in March but 7lb higher now & he has made enough mistakes to suggest this might not be his track.
13. Or De Grugy – won off a mark only 3lb lower in March. Only a 7yo, some decent form about him.
14. Non runner
15. Quattrocentro – Roddy will know more than me! Looks to have done plenty of racing since September for one so young. Good sort though & his last 2 chase runs have looked promising. Won a novice chase in September& made use of much lower hurdles handicap mark to win in February. Conditions should suit. He looked high in the chase handicap at 120 in the winter BUT he has had a break since then & returned seemingly improved. Last 2 chase runs (in novices) promising & could run well here.
16. Sotovik – avoided Perth yesterday to run here (needs soft). Not quite up to this I do not think.
17. Darinas Boy – decent horse & reasonable recent form but probably needs further these days.Summary .Galant Nuit has a lot on here. Key to his chance will lay in how much he has improved recently. He runs because we think that he can be competitive but he lacks the experience of some of these and his first run for 3 months may see him found lacking a bit of sharpness.
Wild Cane Ridge, Bob Bob Bobbin , Cossack Dancer & Quattrocentro
would be my main picks. A strong early pace and a bit of luck in running may see Galant Nuit staying on into a place though he needs to find a little improvement to do so.
May 15, 2009 at 15:45 #227850Great write-up, David ………. many thanks for that.
Is Galant Nuit this evening attempting his furthest ever distance? Being a hold-up type, the 3mile1furlong may suit.
Would you say he has a preference for softish going? (Although I note that Galant ran a damn good race on good/firm in a Newcastle hand’c huirdle 13 months ago.)Best wishes to both Galant Nuit and Quattrocento, and that they both come back safe-n-sound.
May 15, 2009 at 15:52 #227852David,
Hope you’ve received my request please.
