The attendances on the 3 days of the Grand National meeting were:

    Thursday: 22,137 (22,806 in 2022)
    Friday: 42,300 (47,653 in 2022)
    Saturday: 55,822 (58,227 in 2022).

The Thursday attendance held up well compared to last year, especially as there was no Constitution Hill this time. I am pleasantly surprised the figure was so high – I thought it felt much quieter.

It would be interesting to know the reasons why the Friday crowd was down by over 5,000. This day is generally favoured by a younger demographic. Has it become too expensive? Did the negative publicity around last year’s meeting keep people away? Or has this particular day gone past its peak now?

The Grand National day crowd was also down but not by as much.

Attendances were also down at Cheltenham, so Aintree is not unique. But the reasons given at Cheltenham (tickets too expensive, rip off hotel prices, poor transport, Irish and Mullins domination) do not all apply at Aintree.
