With the Meydan Carnival starting today, in the 3.55 I wonder how many lbs Ahtoug will improve now he is back at Meydan.
Mahmood Al Zarooni certainly had the answer to him, or maybe he just likes the sun on his back <!– s:shock: –>

January 8, 2015 at 11:30 #500728He moved from Al Zarooni well before Meydan in fairness, Charlie Appleby was responsible for his Meydan improvement. Though old Mahmood and his best friend needle may have given him a the pick me up at some point in his career!!
Disappointing he flattened out this summer, although the King Stand was not run at a strong 5f pace we know what he was capable of. Easy to question the form in a lot of races at Meydan but the sprint stuff is usually sound.
If he gets back to what he has proven capable of, he should give this field a hiding.
January 8, 2015 at 20:19 #500787I had Ahtoug down as a horse to avoid last season. I felt he was a bit overrated returning to the UK rated 21 lbs higher than when he last ran here.
There is no doubt he ran some good sorts close in Meydan but I thought it worth opposing him away from those shores.
I think he was dropped 5lbs in the ratings for his three unplaced runs in a Group 1 and two Group 3 races here.
He went off 3/1 Fav today but finished in 6th place.
My thoughts were aired regarding the horse around about July last year on this forum, in case anyone thinks after-timing is at work here.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
January 9, 2015 at 07:49 #500840I listened to the
Charlie Appleby
interview before the race, and he said whatever
Ahtoug
achieves, he will come on for the run, he wasn’t quite right in his coat.
