After seeing all the crap on tv over the last couple of weeks concerning Jade Goody and her cronies I think it was great to see Agnes celebrate her win. She was totally overwhelmed by it all. Good luck to you Agnes. Well done.
February 4, 2007 at 11:58 #37597Is that her real name? You couldnt make it up….
February 4, 2007 at 12:18 #37598She’ll never beat Aunt Fanny though Clive ;)
Hey don’t you dare make fun of The Famous Five. Class books, class programme.
February 4, 2007 at 16:26 #37600I should point out – in case anyone was thinking this – my comments are neither jealousy nor sour grapes.
I don’t do the Scoop6, so who the money goes to is none of my business (as it’s not my money and it’s never going to go to me).
She seems a nice, down to earth human being who will spend the money in a way that will enhance her life and the lives of those around her.
However, devoting a large part of the programme to what’s pretty much just a "lottery win" (I don’t think it can be called skill) seems to devalue the racing.
After all, football focus doesn’t spend half its time talking to pools winners, do they?
There are plenty of opportunities to watch people win money on TV without ch4 racing joining in at the expense of racing analysis.
So, just another piece of dumbing down, IMO.

February 4, 2007 at 16:28 #37601Well done Agnes and Bah Humbug to you two miseries.Great TV, and why I love jump racing so much.
February 4, 2007 at 17:12 #37602Nina
I think we all love jump racing so much because of the opportunity it provides northern cleaners with funny names to win pot loads of cash.
February 4, 2007 at 17:26 #37603Well done agnes your a lucky star
its the thing all punters dream about 7 winners how hard is that? think il listen more to good lady wife she pulls out more winners than paul daniels
February 4, 2007 at 17:58 #37604
Steve,
Surely the fact that Agnes featured large on C4 is entirely down to the fact that the Tote and C4 have a commercial arrangement, not ‘dumbing down’.
It’s nothing new after all – C4 have been endlessly promoting the Scoop6 ever since it started.

February 4, 2007 at 18:08 #37605Good luck to her and her family.
It makes better headlines for racing than the ”latest jockey to be accused of fixing races”.
wizard o odds.
win or lose we’ll have some booze
win or draw we’ll have some more
losers can make their own arrangements.
February 4, 2007 at 18:34 #37606I started this thread trying to be horrendously sarcastic. Now I’m welling up inside.
Agnes, gawd bless her. Marvellous.

February 4, 2007 at 18:56 #37607Yes, good luck to Agnes and any other pin-stickers, birthday numbers, coincidence followers and all other guessers. They are a blessing to the serious form student. May their numbers increase exponentially through all the publicity Agnes has received this past week.
The maths:
Guessers lose at the average rate of about 20% per event. Serious form students do so at the lesser rate of about 10 % per event. In pool betting such as the Scoop 6, the guessers are subsidising the form students.
Of course, these are averages which hide the Agnesses and the professional syndicates. The latter are well aware of the former, but I doubt very much whether Agnes has heard of Harry Findlay or Dave Nevison. It would do Harry and Dave a lot of good if there were thousands more like her.
February 4, 2007 at 18:56 #37608Well, being as that was your motive it gladdens my heart to see so many of us appreciate her.
Incidentally do I qualify as a dodgy Northern type, I love horses, am probably over sentimental about the lesser lights, am a member at Bangor On Dee, adore National Hunt Racing, had my first bet when I was five & live in wonderful Cheshire.
February 4, 2007 at 19:51 #37609Surely the fact that Agnes featured large on C4 is entirely down to the fact that the Tote and C4 have a commercial arrangement, not ‘dumbing down’.
I understand the point you’re making, but I’m not sure that the word "entirely" is correct.

Good luck to her, but what the ****
’s she doing on a racing program?
Is she contributing to the analysis of the races?
I don’t think so.
Has our culture really stooped to the level where we give a large amount of airtime to someone that got lucky with their pinsticking?
What’s next?
Will this week’s lottery winner be given a seat on Question Time next Thursday night and be asked how we can solve the problems of the country?
Steve

Well done to the Lady. I didnt see the morning line, but I`m sure Agnes would have brightened up a very dull show.
She landed the scoop six bonus race and tipped up a 25/1 runner up.
She`s picked five of the six winners the previous week herself before her last selection was replaced by the favourite which duly won.
So Steve she`s picked more winners than anyone else on the show put together.
What right have they got to be on the show?!!!!
As Channel four screen and promote the scoop there would be a real interest and it would be silly not to include this winner on the show.
Well done Agnes Haddock.

February 5, 2007 at 17:43 #37611I would agree with Steve if it were the case that Channel 4 Racing was a serious programme and not a racing themed edition of I’m Sorry I haven’t A Clue with adverts.

February 6, 2007 at 08:12 #37612Never mind, Steve. Console yourself with the fact that your comments appear in Greg Wood’s article in today’s Guardian (together with a namecheck for this Forum).
