Just read an article by a certain George Benoit about the evils of AGA ranges and the like. He fancies starting a campaign to have these stoves go the way of patio heaters. Emissions destroying the ozone layer seemingly. As someone who purchased one of these beasts in the last year and greatly benefited this winter by being comfortably warm throughout, I wonder what’s next in the firing line by these so-called saviours of the planet. Population culls to reduce the demand on the Earth’s resources, perhaps. I have spent most of my working life in the exploration, development and supply of crude oil for the profit, comfort and convenience of all, so to have a tosser like Benoit sit at his word processor and come up with such a daft notion irks me no end. As I have fewer years ahead of me than behind and being well endowed with the selfish gene, I couldn’t give a monkey’s about global warming. Yes, I do have children, but as a believer in the maxim, sons are brighter than their fathers else we’d still be cave dwellers, I’m sure things will work out for the better. And before I get lambasted by the Green faction on this forum I’d like to state that I am an active member of Sea Shepherds and well versed in the pros and cons of the conservation arguments and well prepared to do my bit in the upkeep of the Blue Planet and it’s inhabitants. But maybe only when there isn’t an "R" in the month

It’s a pretty good film but fantasy. The little bit of pollution you cause with your AGA isn’t going to wreck the ozone. Unlike clearing rainforests to plant bio-fuel crops will.

I did a "carbon footprint" test on the ESB (Irish leccy supplier_ website and my footprint is 3.8 or 4.2 or something like that.
Apparantly the EU average is 8.something
So why should I turn my heating down by 1 degree just so some lazy don’t-give-a-**** good-for-nothing elsewhere in Europe can live it up
The Green Party are in power here (minority partner in a coalition) and they are looking to ban ordinary lightbulbs and other pointless stuff like that – does my head in
