Nine o’clock at Leopardstown.
The jockeys involved should be banned for a long time.
This is everything that is wrong with horse racing.
Credit to the winning jockey but the rest should be banned at the least.DisgracefulJuly 4, 2013 at 23:01 #444805Riders are all members of some club or other.Should not charge people to see these events.Bets on the tote should be refunded.
July 4, 2013 at 23:02 #444806Disgrace is an understatement.
I’m all for not wanting to make the running, but that was a joke, how can they justify giving the winner a good furlong head start? The horse might of been 50/1 but if your going to let it get that far away its going to win no matter what price it was.
All should bar the winning jockey should be hit with a 3 month + ban.
I didn’t bet on the race.
July 4, 2013 at 23:29 #444810Just watched it
That is disgraceful. All other jockeys should be banned for a month. Be interested to see what happens.
Jane Mangan has claimed she was flat out for 6 furlongs !!
July 4, 2013 at 23:42 #444812For the benefit of those of us who can’t see replays, what happened?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysJuly 5, 2013 at 02:11 #444813Race started and the horses were barely out of a trot as nobody wanted to make the running. 50-1 shot Writer’s Block decides he’ll have a crack and sets off. In barely any time at all he’s 15 lengths clear. At halfway he must be 35 lengths. Commentator begins to express his surprise and even on turning out of the back straight it’s a still almost a distance clear. The favourites begin to close with the jockeys arms flailing but always in vain, the winner crossing the line 14 lengths clear.
Jane Mangan’s excuse is pitiful. As the leader is reaching the 4 furlong pole, she still hasn’t shown any real signs of urgency yet claims she was flat out for the last 6 furlongs. It’s only the final 3 where she is really riding her mount.
July 5, 2013 at 06:13 #444816Four day bans for all 5 of them.

As the winning jockey said, "You don’t give a 3 mile chaser a long lead." Especially in a 1m 6f race!
July 5, 2013 at 09:35 #444822There was quite a fair few happy faced people in the crowd jumping up and down waving their arms in the air.
Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 5, 2013 at 13:17 #444845It’s not the first time this has happened in Ireland. I remember Nina Carberry the year before last, i think she was on Don Cossack in a bumper at Naas or Navan, she was a lucky girl as she managed to get home at the last gasp having given Rory O’Moore a seemingly unassailable lead.
I note the Tote only paid €22 ….someone was on the winner and a few punters were very happy in the crowd by the looks of it.
All thats bad about Irish racing. Over here they’d be stuffed with at least 3 week bans and that would be too lenient. Four days is a bl**dy joke. The stewards must have been in on it too
July 8, 2013 at 09:42 #445095Riders are all members of some club or other.
Not a club as such – they’re all QRs, so the Irish equivalent of amateur riders.
I’d not think that QR Flat maidens are ordinarily any more terrifying a betting medium than, say, a hunter chase, so long as you know which riders are worth following; and I’m not sure this one admittedly fairly major brain-fart on the part of all riders bar one presents a strong enough argument to the contrary.

July 8, 2013 at 10:16 #445100They should all be lined up against the wall and shot. How many people were cheering after that crossed the line..half the crowd ?
