Ian Mongan not happy with the polytrack kickback.

Caught this interview (instigated by Ian Mongan himself), and if the jockeys are prepared to stick their neck out to this length, then it’s a real problem.
More power to their elbow.October 28, 2011 at 06:25 #374506Let’s hope the BHA & the RSPCA are on the case first thing this morning, this cannot be allowed to continue, horses could be seriously injured here.
October 28, 2011 at 06:34 #374507True, Yeats.
Will make both parties look like absolute hypocrites considering their current stance on the whip if racing takes place there again before this problem is cleared up.
We can’t have racing at a venue where the eyesight of an animal is put at risk surely?
October 28, 2011 at 07:02 #374508I’m not going to aim to discredit what Mongan said regarding safety, but it looked a "normal" Lingfield meeting with kickback nowhere near as severe as Southwell. That said, Arena have
almost
acknowledged the track is worn out, and from that they should be moving urgently to replace the track, not putting it off until the back-end of 2012.
October 28, 2011 at 07:54 #374512I believe relatively few horses on the AW are fitted with Eyeshields
If ocular injury is a concern wouldn’t it be a wise (and very simple) step to make these mandatory?
Or are we going to have to put up with another interminable bout of circuitous debate, this time concerning the ‘safety’ of AW tracks?
Many a NH horse has returned caked in mud and debris after a trundle on bottomless ground. Have any ever been blinded?

Doubt it. This racing takes place on wet Tuesday afternoons when nobody is watching.

Backing two runners is the relentless pursuit of value. Backing each way is a shortcut to the poor house. Only 7% make a long term profit.
October 28, 2011 at 14:27 #374562The irony in the same amount of headlines this gets compared to the ‘whip’ debate won’t suprise most people on here.
October 29, 2011 at 16:39 #374757There are many real horse welfare issues to address. The RSPCA and the rest should be looking at the thousands of horses that are abused every week at riding stables where whip-happy children are encouraged to thrash ponies with real riding crops. Instead their attention is on profressional riders using pieces of foam. So it’s not really about horse welfare, it’s about politics and perception.
So, no, I can’t see anyone caring about the track at Lingfield.
