I agree. Someone should remind him that he wins once in a blue moon in England and Fallon and Dettori don’t wave the whip in his face…
I didn’t watch the race until later already knowing the result… All the credit goes to the horse, tough as you like.. I think Pride will have another big race in her as I don’t really think HR ran any better in the KG than at saint cloud… The only difference being that he was back going right handed again… I’m sure the stopwatch crew will be able to shed some light on that?
August 6, 2006 at 19:08 #2845Could someone fill me in on what C Soumi did after winning on Hurricane Run- was away (on honeymoon, good excuse) and missed all the fun.
Congrats to Cormack on a seemingly painless transition and for keeping that nasty Mr Davies away….
August 6, 2006 at 19:38 #74937On winning the King George, Carvills, the Belgian tyro’s victory celebrations involved turning to the stands, sticking his tongue out and, (strangely) patting his bottom.
Most people believe that these gestures were aimed at the Press for their criticism of his ride on the great Ouija Board in the Eclipse. He denies this, but no-one believes him.
Hanging has been mentioned, as is relief that Her Majesty was not present to witness the gestures.

Perhaps he just thinks he has a nice arse and he doesn’t care if anyone in the press says otherwise.

August 7, 2006 at 07:54 #74940A colleague of mine was at the King George and beofre the race he saw someone shout, ‘Hey Christophe’. Soumillion then turned around to look at the man who then carried on, ‘You’re ****

Riding in France, abuse like that would just be another day at the races …
It’s a different world over there.
Someday, I’ll tell you the stories about:
(1) what happened between Eric LeGris and a spectator after the Hocquart a couple of years ago.
(2) the day (actually 3 days after the incident above) I nipped ahead of McCririck and stole his place on the free bus back from Longchamp. Fatty had to stand around and wait for the next one.
Result!
August 7, 2006 at 19:06 #74942It’s typical Soumillon all over. I don’t mind seeing a bit of exuberant whip-waving after a big race win and the like, but his antics last Saturday weren’t too pleasant to watch really.
