There are no rules in here Cork, glad you enjoyed your day. I didn’t see any of it but I’m sure Fleetwood’s performance must have gone down well being a fairly local chap.

Did you say in another thread that you have a ticket for tomorrow as well? I am assuming there must be a similar forecast to Old Trafford.

The harsh fact here is the closest any of us Lounge habituees have got to a Night At The Opera is a day at a sport other than racing.

CAS stands out as positively bohemian in this neck of the woods.

Having declared cinema to be on life support last week, I am pleased to say it’s been given a mighty shot in the arm by ‘Barbenheimer’. For the uninitiated, yesterday saw the release of two of the most diametrically opposed films imaginable in Barbie and Oppenheimer and people are embracing the contrast and seeing both.

I’ve been to both over consecutive evenings and they’ve been selling out the place for two days now. Both well worth a watch, have to say Barbie did surprise me. I had no idea what to expect but it’s both funny and actually quite touching at times. Oppenheimer is, unsurprisingly given the subject matter, heavy going but worth staying the three hour distance. Massive missed opportunity to cast Golden Horn as an extra though.

“Did you say in another thread that you have a ticket for tomorrow (Saturday) as well?”

Yes, I have been at the Open again today. I thought it might be tough going because the rain was pouring down in the morning until about 10.30am. After that it brightened up with only occasional light showers (although there was one brief heavy shower at about 4.30pm).

They got lucky because the really heavy rain did not arrive until after play finished. It was like a monsoon season when I got back to Liverpool.

It was surprisingly easy to follow Fleetwood in the last group today. Lots of the crowds followed McIlroy instead, about an hour ahead of him.

I can’t see anyone catching Harman now. I wish I had lumped on him at 9/4 after he finished his round yesterday. If McIlroy or Rahm had been in that position, they would have been odds on.

I may go to see “Oppenheimer” in the week.

I did wonder if you’d need your scuba gear given the forecast down the road at Old Trafford so glad it turned out alright in the end.

As part of a heavyweight cast, Gary Oldman plays Truman in Oppenheimer which got me thinking about how many others have portrayed both a British PM and a US President on screen. There must be one or two but nobody springs to mind.

The BBC produced an ‘Oppenheimer’ which I recall as being good. I thought it was about 25 years ago but on checking it was 43 years ago in 1980, in seven parts, and starred Sam Waterston as yer man

BBC4 have got into the welcome habit of dusting off half-forgotten old gems so perhaps they’ll dig this one out

The story of the Manhattan Project in itself is well worth dramatising and being drawn to tortured, conflicted types such as Oppenheimer means I might make the effort to watch the new version at the flicks, though I guess it’ll be on the goggler within a year

I haven’t been to the cinema since “Spectre” first went on general release.

I meant to go and see the last Bond movie, but cba and wouldn’t even know if it has since been on the telly.

No supporter of the arts, I.

It was not exactly cultured but I was at the Great British Beer Festival yesterday, for the first time since 2019. It was obviously cancelled in 2020 and 2021 and I forgot about it last year.

To my dismay, there was no cheese stall! There always has been before. Drinking beer without a nice cheese platter or two just isn’t the same.

I shall be complaining loudly to CAMRA!!

Beer is cultured, it’s in the ingredients list. I’ll get my coat.

I must hunt out a beer festival soon, not been to one for ages. They make some good stuff here in the westcountry.

The lack of cheese is definitely grounds for serious complaint!

Scandalous – as I don’t drink, I’d only have been there for the cheese!
