The Tories filling there own pockets isnt news , it’s a daily occurance
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
June 13, 2025 at 17:51 #1732886I wonder where the four in ten business owners are ‘thinking of’ going? Surely not the hated EU.
48% say the Autumn budget worsened the prospects for their business.
So prospects stayed the same or improved for 52% (the majority).
47% say the government’s policies towards business are deterring them from expanding their company.
So 53% aren’t being deterred (the majority).
42% say the government’s policies are deterring them from starting another business.
So 58% are not deterred from starting another business (the majority).
You get the idea.
June 13, 2025 at 18:08 #1732888I’ve been saying for ages now that I don’t recall the news media scrutinising everything that the previous government ( in its various incarnations) did. Nor do they scrutinise Farage and Tice when they’re interviewed on tv most days.
Back to this, another thing that happens constantly, and all outlets are guilty of it to varying degrees, is ‘politician claims…’ stories. The utterances of politicians are not news. There’s an old saying that if one person tells you it’s raining and another says it isn’t then it’s not your job to give them both a platform, you look out the ****ing window and find out who’s lying.
June 13, 2025 at 21:13 #1732909On the subject of politicians lying: on the BBC’s “Question Time” last night, the controversial issue of immigration came up for discussion.
Darren Jones – a serving Cabinet minister as Chief Secretary To The Treasury – said something to the effect of the majority of people arriving in small boats are “women, children and babies.” This was challenged by someone on the panel and by some people in the audience.
I am not getting involved in a discussion on immigration but it is beyond dispute that what Jones said is untrue. This is because 73% of the arrivals are adult males according to the government’s own statistics.
Did Jones simply not know the facts (possibly, because he is dim enough). Or did he simply tell a bare faced lie and think no one would challenge him?
Don’t these people realise that it is easy to expose them as liars with just a few mouse clicks? It beggars belief he would tell such a brazen lie on just about the most vexed question in British politics right now. And then Labour wonders why it is being hammered in the polls.
I don’t believe he should be sacked as some people have suggested but he should make a public apology and admit he was wrong.
You cannot take the moral high ground about Johnson telling lies but then tell lies of your own.
June 14, 2025 at 07:19 #1732939Agree 100%, CAS.
The question is, was he deliberately lying or was he just making it up? Either way, he should go: if it’s the former, it’s blatant dishonesty; if it’s the latter, total ineptitude.
June 14, 2025 at 08:41 #1732943Steady on Glad. If every politician was sacked for lying there wouldn’t be any left and very few left if sacked for total ineptitude.
June 14, 2025 at 09:39 #1732951Jones has retracted his words with a not-too-convincing explanation (below). Be it a heat-of-the-moment error or wilful lie it was an idiotic thing to say. Shame really as Jones was I thought, in opposition, one of the few rising stars of the Labour Party
I haven’t watched Question Time for several years: I’ve had quite enough of party-political weasel-worded vacuous slanging matches
Writing on social media site X, Mr Jones said: “Of course the overall majority of people arriving illegally on small boats are men – but not ‘north of 90%’ as Reform claimed.
“On BBC Question Time, I shared a story from my visit to the Border Security Command about a dinghy that arrived mostly carrying women, children and babies who had suffered horrific burns.
“I’m happy to clarify this given how this is now being misrepresented.”
June 14, 2025 at 11:21 #1732972So did Bruce decide not to intervene on such a glaring untruth ?
As regards the story he related about the dinghy of women and juveniles, did Mr Jones consider how they had passed through the socioeconomic paradise of mainland Europe in such a condition ?
June 14, 2025 at 12:24 #1732986“Jones has retracted his words with a not-too-convincing explanation”.
His dreadful explanation has arguably made the situation worse. Who really believes him? He thought he could get away with a blatant untruth, got called out for it and now is desperately trying to save face.
The figures are actually worse for him. The 73% figure quoted earlier is last year’s figures. Based on arrivals between January and March this year, the percentage of adult males is 83% (again the government’s own figures).
People are sick of being lied to and gaslighted by the likes of Jones.
June 14, 2025 at 15:06 #1733020Presumably Reform will also be apologising for the wildly inaccurate ‘north of 90%’ claim then. We wouldn’t want people thinking they are liars too.

They get away with it because no one expects them to tell the truth anyway….June 14, 2025 at 20:18 #1733044June 15, 2025 at 05:48 #1733054No denying it: the bloke’s useless.
Still better than the bloody Tories, though.
June 15, 2025 at 07:48 #1733055I’m not sure if I’ve asked this question but does anyone on here realistically think we’ll ever stop the boats coming ?

June 15, 2025 at 08:00 #1733056Only when it is more beneficial to live in a Third world country than here. We may then be getting the boat to Syria.
June 15, 2025 at 08:02 #1733057don’t see the problem with Starmer going with the National Enquiry. He is following advice from the expert after all.
