Ps,
It’s gotta beat adult breastfeeding(?)May 11, 2010 at 12:49 #295276They were on the BBC last night as I was flicking channels, and I just thought to myself, why didn’t I notice at the time how gorgeous Morten was? Each month we bought an album at work and passed it round, each member of the group choosing in turn. I chose Scoundrel Days and was very much laughed at, but I thought at the time that they were more than just a pretty poppy boy band. Unfortunately it was at that time that both my parents died and I hadn’t learned to stop listening to music when something sad happens, so I haven’t listened to Scoundrel Days since then. Perhaps time to dig it out. [he’s still pretty cute, now…]
May 11, 2010 at 20:44 #295329Absolutely, Moehat. Scoundrel Days is deffo one of their best albums and showed that they had more interesting stuff to offer.
Let us drool over Morten together.
*DROOOOOOL*

May 11, 2010 at 22:01 #295345Moe/Zip, def one of the most overlooked bands of the 80’s, from a Pop view of things anyway! Unfairly branded a teenybop band, not really the case as they fell out of favour in that bracket pretty quickly. They had a lot more to offer than that, and I’ve a lot of time for Scoundrel Days.
Hate seeing "Take On Me" on any 80’s show, as not even close to their best. Not in the same league as "I’ve Been Losing You", and several others.
Zip, enjoyed the blog, but I thought a bit harsh on "Foot Of The Mountain", I thought it was proper return to form. I may be in the minority though!
Here’s a thing, am I the only person who thinks Keane have borrowed heavily from A-ha? I think there’s a lot of similarities!
Anyway, good to read your posts, and no, I’m definitely not drooling over any of them.
May 12, 2010 at 22:14 #295470Hi Venture to Cognac, nice to meet you after all this time!
Yep – I’ve been Losing you is one of their best tunes, considering the lyrics it did well to be a top ten hit.
(there’s a great live version recorded in the early 90’s in Norway – you can find it on Youtube. Lemme know if you want a link).I honestly thought FOTM was pants, as if they had run out of places to go musically. It seemed such a limp, soulless effort.
However, most fans of the band would rip my balls off for daring to suggest that.
If you got something out of their last offering then that’s fab.
Deffo Keane have been influenced – they have said as much and been quite pally with a-ha.
They are right to retire now though, surely?
Oh, and talking of those dreaded 80’s video countdowns…

No doubt I’ll tune in!

May 12, 2010 at 22:26 #295471Zips, your article is great.
Unbelievable really, takes me right back. I’m gonna go on Utube now and find some Transvision Vamp
May 13, 2010 at 00:12 #295488Hey Zip, good to hear from you, yeah, had a quick look on You Tube, and think I found the clip you’re talking about, it’s good stuff!
It’s funny, when I made the Keane comparison, I half wondered whether it was already common knowledge how similar they were, or it was just my imagination. Pleased to see i wasn’t imagining it.
I think you’re spot on, now’s the time for them to call it a day!
Thanks for the tip off about the C4 show. I’ll def watch it, even though I have a love/hate thing going on with these 80’s shows. It’ll be all style and no substance i.e great videos, but average tunes. I’m sure you know the usual suspects. I won’t mention them for fear of offending anyone! Ha!
In the mood now for trawling You Tube. Like Pompete, I may even look up some Transvision Vamp, but purely for musical reasons! Ahem!
May 13, 2010 at 21:56 #295605Good to know we have a selective group of real music lovers on here

May 21, 2010 at 03:09 #296359If he is well enough I’ll be taking my father to see them at the Brighton Centre in November.
Took him to see them in Manchester a few years ago and hard to believe it is nearly 20 years since I saw them in concert in Harrogate of all places!!
May 21, 2010 at 22:08 #296433Harrogate

I’ve seen ’em in 1991 and 2006 and I wouldn’t mind going to their final fling in Oslo…I really don’t like their last album though – tis pants.

In case you’ve missed it, she’s actually been back in active service for the last six years or thereabouts.
Having spent a few years locked away in the States to learn her craft (NB the Transvision Vamp stuff was primarily written by Nick Christian Sayer, and her solo album entirely by Elvis Costello), she is now the writer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer and everything else-er of the band Racine, which is a solo project in all but name.
Already quite a bit of footage of Racine on t’interweb, as well as a comprehensive Myspace page. This would be one from the less electro side of her current oeuvre;

Still – she does look yummier than a freshly picked chocolate chip cookie. Sounds like posh totty, too.
