Watching Foxhunter’s possible Serecina make a winning rules debut today made me think of some of the great mares it’s been my priveldge to have seen (and backed) over the years, not that I’m comparing her to any of those but she’s going the right way.

    WHILHELMINA HENRIETTA
    DAWN RUN
    LADY REBECCA
    SOLERINA

are four of my all time favourites and today we are lucky enough to have

FOR BILL and VOLER LA VADETTE

I’ve always though the (generous) mare’s allowance gave them a wee bit in hand of colts and geldings as they are often far more consistent, anyone else who’d go for a good mare ahead of a good gelding if everything else seemed equal?

Dunno if I’d say mares are more consistent, but my fav horse in training is a mare: Voler

Solerina – 40 starts, 22 wins. Hardy Eustace, Brave Inca, Kicking King among her notable scalps. Tough as nails. Cracking mare.

Solerina……Just about my all time favourite race horse! Any idea if she’s had any foals racing yet?

Absoloms(spelling?) Lady was a pretty useful grey mare back in the 90s – she used to run in the Cool Ground colours if I recall correctly.

Absalom’s Lady.. cracking mare and now a half decent dam – Bob Bob Bobbin, Big Business, War General and Soverign are/were all winners. The latter is declared for the weekend.

Her first foal was a Definite Article born late 2007 and I would think he would be kept on a "traditional" NH route so maybe next season? Did see him entered up in foal and yearling sales but appears to have been withdrawn both times.

Wholly remiss of me not to nominate Chesnut Annie and Lady Myfanwy of current vintage.
