I started backing her last Summer Gary and after todays no-show you wished she’d never ran, helluva lot of money came for her too.Thats Racing mate and the only thing you can do is move on to the next race.Dwelling on it only makes you bitter and twisted and you just cant allow those emotions to take over in the world of Ante-Post betting.

Wise words Gord, Ante Post betting is very much boom or bust and that is why it is such a high when you pick one that was only a wet dream to most punters. I got hoofed in the stones with two of my long term 1000G punts at big odds (Including 40/1 Taghrooda) not turning up on the day and my 9/1 and 20/1 shots, who went off 6/4 and 15/2 in the 2000G came to nowt.
However, my 33/1 on Taghrooda for the Oaks took a kick forward today and she is a best priced 3/1 now. If she wins she’ll cover me for a good few races yet and if not, I still had a good value runner lining up for me.
I am a bit miffed that Gosden didn’t have Taghrooda in the Guineas, then entered her and didn’t bother running her. It may well be that she needs further but she couldn’t have done worse than the cuddy he relied on ultimately, and that didn’t look a great 1000G today.
It makes me laugh to read some of the forecasts of supposedly knowledgeable people in the betting game. Last week when Taghrooda was entered in a Handicap at Sandown she was joint favourite for the Oaks at the time, yet the betting forecast on At The Races had her in at around about the fourth in the betting at odds of 13/2
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Well done Gdc1, I didn’t fancy Miss France today but felt it was a very open race. Both O’Brien horses were bitterly disappointing, particularly Tapestry, who should have been about hand with Rizeena at least.
I have felt the O’Brien yard was generally disappointing this year. They picked up form on the build up to the Guineas and Australia ran a terrific race in the 2000G but in the main his 2yo’s have been showing the best form so far this year.
An awful lot of O’Brien’s well bred horses started off in great style last season, such as Stubbs, Coach House, Sir John Hawkins etc but they then became disappointing. So far there has really only been talk of Australia and Geoffrey Chaucer looking good in their work.
Just before yesterday’s 2000 Guineas Aiden told Emma Spencer that Australia was all over War Command at home, begging the question as to why they bothered running the latter horse, who never showed with a chance.
Horses can make fools of us all but that’s the game we love.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 5, 2014 at 08:38 #478114Steve: I too am a big ante post backer (admittedly more NH but also the 4 major flat festivals) – my big bet was Tapestry but fortunately not single but Gns/Oaks double so my layout was not large, however I did feel Tapestry was the Gns good thing! I try to find one a week before to back at an EW price, the. Trainer of Miss France is a genius and his 2yo win at Newmkt showed he handled the track so I went in EW at 10s and 8s and got lucky with the FC purely due to that same 2yo race last season, don’t get me wrong, I had losers as I did Tapestry with 3 horses and Miss France with the same 3! Just my way of betting but again FCs don’t cost much but pay very well indeed at the big meetings! Roll on Derby weekend is all I can say

I’m hearing that Gordy me old boy. This
Taghrooda’s
progression from 2 to 3 has left me thinking ‘what if’ for
My Titania
May 5, 2014 at 16:05 #478140Gord i was not expecting that from you any thoughts on next 2 classics at Epsom now

Only joking Darren.My thoughts on
Australia
……….. When Aiden O’Brien tells all and sundry that "This is the best horse we have had in the yard" Its total Bollox, that horse should have won if that was the case and he never showed any gear changes to me.Obviously he is a 11/2m horse who has to go off fav for the Derby for his staying on 3rd place but christ the best horse Coolmore have had……..No way!
Taghrooda
,I hope she wins the Oaks for Steve,he has shown brilliant foresight in highlighting her as a 33/1 shot from last year,I’d like to see one more run before Epsom though.
War command
is my Golden Jubilee horse for sure.
May 5, 2014 at 18:29 #478149O’Brien says War Command is going for the Irish Guineas next and he believes the horse will improve a lot from his 9th place last Saturday.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
May 5, 2014 at 20:26 #478160Bloody hell I’ve heard some excuses in my time but for Aiden O’Brien to publicly state he has ‘over-trained’
Tapestry
takes the biscuit.he stated 2 months ago she was a filly who had come to herself early and yet she’s turned up ‘light’ at Newmarket! That filly will have been weighed every couple of days during her training for a big race and yet somehow she has lost the condition she would have been in a fortnight ago.The money for her yesterday was serious money, some of it mine and I put my faith in O’Brien doing what he’s paid to do,sadly this time he’s messed up big time.Fair play to confessing but it questions his credibility.Time will hopefully show why I rate her so highly.

Tapestry might have been well backed on the day Gord, but am sure the unease in the market the previous few weeks did not go un-noticed. Believe I saw something like 20’s or 25/1 on the exchanges at one stage. Betfair price much bigger than bookmakers. Whenever I see such disparity puts a question mark against them whatever connections might say beforehand. Always suggests to me they’re struggling to get the horse ready in time / not showing its usual form on the gallops or uncertain starter. Same thing happened to Amazing Maria before a late withdrawl.
Tapestry was well backed on the day, but so is just about every number one challenger for Classic glory from the O’Brien stable.

You are quite right Ginge about ‘Tapestrys’ fluctuating prices on the machine,I actually took some 19’s just a couple of weeks ago but like you say, generally speaking the drifts are alarming. Its amazing how the machine knows before anyone else at times, suggests to me in stable leakages.Occassionally the prices on the machine are just too tempting not to take when you make a stand about a horse.I took a stand on
Tapestry
and it back fired bigtime but the machine has been my saving grace not just for taking stupid prices but laying off such for security. Not that I ever got the chance with this filly.Chin up and soldier on is my philosophy,I know there’s another big win just awaiting in the wings.confidence is King and all that.
May 7, 2014 at 12:53 #478297Is this thread going to continue Gord?
Might be time for a fresh start? Here’s a few for you to ponder for a new thread:
Duke Of York: Aljamaaheer 9/1
Oaks: Taghrooda (unfortunately did not get Steve’s 33’s) 4/1
Derby: True Story 14/1
Kings Stand: Hot Streak 14/1
Diamond Jubilee: Aljamaaheer 16/1
Arc: Treve 5/1Value Is EverythingMay 8, 2014 at 15:35 #478396Sadly this thread has run its course, all 365 of them and as per usual it proves as a Tipster I’m useless but you dont earn legendary
status just for treating horses as numbers,No its about understanding horses and their idiosyncracies, how their Trainers place them and what meetings connections like targeting. Its a big colourful picture Horseracing and I for the past 5 years have painted every aspect of the sport with my artistic license.I have always specialised in the art of Ante-Post betting and have encouraged others to try it,sadly some still paint with a yardbrush but nonetheless they have had a go.Ginger has mastered ‘Painting by numbers’ thats his level but christ he’s mastered it.Of course legendary status isn’t awarded just because I’m an ‘Art Conneisseur’I am also a world class Author, everyone of my ‘Books’ is the most read for that particular year ‘A Kings Ransom’ has now reached over 100,000 views, truly remarkable I know but thats the precedent I set.TAPK has pushed boundaries, laughed in the face of adversity and celebrated those well documented Gambles hard.I have continued writing year on year without a break so those looking for my next thread to start tomorrow morning will be dissapointed.Being a Layer rather than a backer this past year or so its not easy dedicating a thread to such due to timing issues but fear not the King of Cheltenham will still be contributing to this fantastic forum with its fantastic contributers some of whom I consider friends.Keep up the good work in DLAPS guys,I will be watching and fingers crossed for the odd Ante-Post coup to come in.Will it be ‘Taghrooda’? We’ll see. Now whats going to win the ‘Supreme’ next year?May 8, 2014 at 15:35 #478397Duplicate Post!
