One to watch now – hope you’re right about Master minded!

March 11, 2008 at 23:59 #149969I agree with Carvills Voyy Pur is a rock solid e/w bet and is the horse to beat.
March 12, 2008 at 00:01 #149970Kauto Star didn’t fail because he was 6, he failed because he tried to walk through the second fence. By all means oppose Master Minded because it’s not a good policy to be backing horses at 3/1 to do something they’ve never done before and because he still has questions to answer with regard to his jumping when not getting an uncontested lead, not because of an irrelevant statistic. So few 5yo’s, if any (I don’t know off hand) have run in the Champion Chase that such statistic analysis is pointless.
I suggested on a different thread that Tamarinbleu was the bet when he was 6/1 and I’d still rather back him at 7/2 than anything else in the race at current prices.

Twist Magic now 6.6 on BF … very tempting, and the the forgotten horse I feel if the ground runs relatively quick.

Like pissing all over last years champ?

Yes, but that same champ who just beat Dempsey..

He did it at levels at Newbury did he Clive? And will Ruby be allowed to set whatever gallop he wants? I rate the likes of Tamarinbleu higher than River City and Dempsey in any case.
Salselon – I can’t see how Twist Magic can finish infront of Tamarinbleu to be honest. Soft ground at Cheltenham isn’t the place for non-stayers in the need of a breathing op imo.
March 12, 2008 at 00:11 #149978The reason that barely any 5yos have run in the champ chase is because it is not a wise move to put an inexperienced horse in Cheltenhams fastest run chase.
Nicholls admitted he made a mistake by putting Kauto in the race as an inexperienced 6yo and he will likely be made to admit it was an even bigger mistake to put the 5yo in the race.
Will be nice to see him win as its always nice to witness history being made, but unfortunately the horse may fall and die.
Sounds extremely harsh thing to say but, horses will almost certainly die at this years festival from falls. and the 5yo in the champ chase would be the one you could pick out before hand as being a likely victim. That will have some of you in tears and calling me all sorts of names, but what I say is actually quite true.
The champion chase is no place for a 5yo and I just hope he lives to tell the tale. It could turn out to be an awful decision to run him here.
March 12, 2008 at 00:13 #1499796lbs would have made no difference to that result at all.
MM most likely has improvement in him. VPU? nooooooo
March 12, 2008 at 00:17 #149982Voy Por Ustedes was coming back at both Twist Magic and Master Minded toward the end of their respective meetings, so will surely benefit from the return to Cheltenham at championship pace.
That said I’m a huge Twist Magic fan, so will probably back him blind regardless.
March 12, 2008 at 00:48 #149985I’ve been saying all along that Master Minded will not complete the course.
And I said exactly the same thing about Tidal Bay!!

March 12, 2008 at 00:49 #149986If today’s ground is anything to go by, forget Twist Magic. Master Minded might well find the pace a bit too hot compared to what he’s used to, Voy Por is a model of consistency but has looked vulnerable in terms of pace this year and has been beaten 3 times, and Tamarinbleu will have to be careful not to get into a race with Fair Along too early.
Take from that what you will!

I’ll be backing Tamarinbleu if the ground runs like it did today in the first two races, otherwise there are enough doubts about everything else to make Voy Por a good thing for a place.
March 12, 2008 at 00:57 #149987Tamarinbleu is now a best priced 4-1 and well fancied, being punted all over the place. Dont know how bad the ground is at cheltenham, the racing post say good-soft but todays times and the way they finished suggest it may well be edging on soft.
March 12, 2008 at 01:03 #149989There are claims that the headwind contributed to slow times today. But it could be increased gravity at Prestbury Park slowing them down, the fact remains that if the times tomorrow in the first two races are as slow as today’s, the best stayer will go very close in the QM, and that’s Tamarinbleu.
March 12, 2008 at 01:19 #149991Twist Magic for me, he’s won on soft and very soft at Auteuil so the ground shouldn’t be too much of a problem even though it would be better if the ground dried out a little (if it does he’s a penalty kick), however his jumping can be a bit suspect but then they all said that about Tidal Bay

Voy Por Ustedes is my main threat.
March 12, 2008 at 06:01 #150004You’re not Fist Of Fury in disguise are you?
I think he is big on that also.To tell the truth, I was a bit disappointed with the PN horses on Tuesday (today, god knows what time it is
) and because of that I’m opposing both of the PN runners. The more I look at the race the more I think VPU (cos I can’t spell the full name) is an absolute cracking bet. My logic = I’m drunk, and I like previous courses winners for some reason

Good luck Corm.
Mike
Stop looking at the race Mike wouldn’t want you throwing your Katchit money away

If Corm was me he would have bought a new car with the cash (how much are Dinky toys these days?
) not stuck ot on MM
It is a big one for me as I shoved every penny I won of Binny at Kempton plus a bit more on MM………luckily yesterday was the best day I have had at Cheltenham since Ten Up won the Gold Cup so the pressure is off but I do think this is one very special horse. Ruby is mustard keen on him that’s for sure. I wouldn’t worry about PN’s horses yesterday there was nothing outstanding so they have run well……..Noland was a huge gamble for anyone after that long lay off… especially at that silly price. This fellow is a different ball game……..despite age and inexperience he’s destroyed a QMCC chase winner which makes him special in his own right. They can say what they want about VPU’s fitness but he was well enough forward IMO….Thornton says he won’t be beat I think Ruby would have something to say about that. My only worry is Pipes goes so fast that they are going to have to go early and fast to catch him….he could easily slip up but he never touched a twig last time so touch wood he jumps error free…..if he does it should be no more than a formality IMO
I don’t rate Pipes that much but he shocked the hell out of me with Osana….granted apart from a 10 second burst of film when he was anovice I had never seen him before but that was a fantastic performance from him. On form I couldn’t touch Pipes even on this ground that form with TM stinks IMO bit like Leslingtaylor as someone said………but he will no doubt get them all at it at some stage.
March 12, 2008 at 08:26 #150023The best day you’ve had at Cheltenham, FOF, with Noland, Binocular and Sizing Europe stuffed? I’d hate to be you on a bad day…and backing Master Minded might just lead to one.
