Comment from the labour leader on the hyped up ‘betting scandal’:
“Sir Keir Starmer has said he opposes a ban on political betting and that he has never made such a bet himself.
“I’ve never placed a political bet, I only bet on the horses, so that’s where I stand on this,” the Labour leader said.”
So he bets on horses does he, well that raises a couple of questions:
1. Given his inability to make any policy decision and stick to it, how on earth does he pick out a horse to back.
2. Assuming he’s using an online account, has he been subjected to affordability checks etc.
Heaven forbid that his claim to bet on racing is just another attempt to make him look like a normal working man.
June 26, 2024 at 18:30 #1700014His father was a toolmaker, don’t you know?
June 26, 2024 at 18:30 #1700015If popular appeal were the point, he’d have said that he bets on the football.
June 26, 2024 at 19:18 #1700018According to the “Racing Post”, Lady Starmer is from Doncaster. The Starmers have been seen on Town Moor at the St Leger meeting. Perhaps his betting is just a few bets there.
June 26, 2024 at 19:33 #1700020AP racing your threads used be the most interesting on here.

No idea, form studying, lucky number, likes the colours, amusing names, could be anything really.

June 26, 2024 at 19:58 #1700025Is it just me or does it look like someone has superimposed Starmer’s head onto that picture?
Looks like he’s wearing his favourite tory suit.
June 27, 2024 at 09:29 #1700046Hopefully the racing authorities will not be blinded by being so far up the arses of the Tory Party and see racing could be given some attention if they court Labour through Victoria Starmer. Though given Dildo Harding’s presence…
Nice/sad to be reminded of Robin Cook, probably the most high-profile Labour politician who loved racing. I always think that decency in British Politics died with him.June 27, 2024 at 12:49 #1700055‘racing could be given some attention if they court Labour through Victoria Starmer’
Quite. Like it or not, he’s 1/200 to be PM this time next week and it’s 1/33 that his party has an overall majority. Given that many in this parish have speculated (with some justification) that a Labour Government may not be too friendly to racing, I’d have thought that Starmer making a vaguely positive noise about the sport would be welcomed.
Plenty of threads in The Lounge for having a go at politicans.
June 27, 2024 at 13:19 #1700057Fair point Richard. I am still not convinced that the current Labour Party is particularly well inclined towards racing but if Starmer and his wife are racing fans then that is something racing should be pleased about.
Another thing to consider is if the polls are correct, plenty of constituencies are going to change hands. Some new Labour MPs are going to find racecourses in their constituency. Racecourses are usually quite a significant part of their local economy and it would be unwise for any new MP to ignore or antagonise them.
June 27, 2024 at 19:28 #1700074Yes Cork, it’s not something to be cheering to the rafters but it can’t be a bad thing.
Good point about constituencies with courses too. Even here in the True Blue westcountry, some more rural seats have Labour odds on.
June 27, 2024 at 19:36 #1700075So the government in charge are going around committing fraud
I’ll remember that one next time I’m in court..🤔Blackbeard to conquer the World
June 27, 2024 at 19:41 #1700076This government won’t be in charge then, Nathan.
Unless you’re due to appear in the next six days.

Robin Cook was a real supporter of horse racing and I was particularly saddened to hear of his death.
Although I didn’t hold with his politics he soared immeasurably in my estimation that day he stood up in Parliament and resigned from his post when basically calling Blair & his cronies liars over the pending Iraq war in that nice flowery language used at Westminister.
good luck to all -
