The horse clearly had to be disqualified and no problem with the trainer being fined. However, why should David Nolan get a three day ban?
What happened was clearly an accident. No trace of the missing lead weight was found anywhere. The whole thing is a bit of a mystery.
Nolan does not appear to have done anything wrong but is going to miss out on three days of riding fees and prize money. Does the punishment fit the crime?
I think he is entitled to feel a bit aggrieved, especially when you look at the last race at Navan yesterday where plenty of jockeys made little or no effort and received no punishment at all.
