Bizarre doesn’t even begin to describe this Hunter Chase. Not exactly a great advert for the sport..
March 13, 2026 at 17:38 #1759654The winning rider received a 12 day ban. He was left on his own after the three other horses had either fallen or pulled up. His horse was utterly exhausted and could barely raise a walk, never mind a gallop. Yet he still asked the horse to jump the last fence. Somehow he managed to clamber over the obstacle but it was a dreadful look.
March 13, 2026 at 17:49 #1759660What on earth was the jockey thinking? You wouldn’t do that running for 50K let alone 2.5K
I noticed that the positional graphic disappeared in shame after they went from 2 runners to just 1!
March 13, 2026 at 17:59 #1759670Incredible scenes. Poor horse, I hope this never happens again. Once again 12 days is not a ban really hurting the rider.
March 13, 2026 at 18:04 #1759675Just watched the replay, that’s a disgrace, the jockey should get an extremely lengthy ban and a massive fine for that.
March 13, 2026 at 18:08 #1759681Thank goodness the horse did not collapse.
March 13, 2026 at 18:22 #1759689I didn’t see it and RacingTv appear to have removed the replay.
If the rest had fallen, why didn’t the jockey just walk the horse until it had fully recovered before trying to jump anymore?

March 13, 2026 at 18:28 #1759692There was also an incident at the second last fence.
A horse fell at it on the first circuit. It looked like he caused a dent in the fence. This was mentioned by the commentator on the second circuit, when the favourite made a mistake.
Then on the final circuit, the favourite refused from out of nowhere when seeming to be going well and with the race at his mercy.
I have to wonder if the horse was distracted by the damage to the fence. Should it have been dolled off, like fences are when a guard rail is broken?
A very unsatisfactory race, anyway.

March 14, 2026 at 13:29 #1759929I remember Robert Bellamy remounting a horse and then it getting stuck on top of a fence and the fence having to be dismantled to rescue the poor beast. 30 years ago at least. Not much has moved on in some quarters clearly.
