Since Beethoven is also bred by Aidan and ridden by Ryan Moore perhaps they are going for a long shot. He ran a brilliant race in the BC.Had no chance after interference at the first turn and came steaming up to snag 4th I believe. The problem is as I speak; will Ryan be free on Derby day? Will Stoutie have a Guineas runner? All pure speculation but fun.
February 11, 2010 at 19:15 #275675I know I was joking when I wrote that this would be Godolphin’s year, but surely they must have bought themselves a Classic winner somewhere.
Gosh, and Godolphin have posted their first Classic winner of the season, ridden by Ajtebi, at 50/1! UAE 1000 Guineas.
Bought for 110,000 gns at public auction, from Highclere Stud.
Is it also Shamardal’s first Classic winner?
February 11, 2010 at 19:22 #275676I don’t know which races count as Classics in Australia.
Faint Perfume won the Crown Oaks.
February 12, 2010 at 07:34 #275752How in the name of all that is good and holy did McToom get a fillies classic in Maiden. I thought classics had to have class. When was this race born? Shades of Alice in Wonderland here.
February 12, 2010 at 09:55 #275776Mixing metaphors here, Andy, but I’m batting on a sticky wicket here, so I have to fight dirty!
February 13, 2010 at 03:16 #276006Well, that’s it.It took 33 pages but we finally ran out of things to say about the upcoming crop of 3yo’s. I feel totally airless. Now we wait for the injury reports from the gallops.Right?
February 22, 2010 at 04:25 #278366Get the stake, crucifix and garlic; it’s back!
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the owner-breeder, said: “Workforce won’t be going for the Derby as he’s by a miler. We see him more as a mile or mile-and-a-quarter horse.
“Both he and Treble Jig are in good shape and will be entered for the 2,000 Guineas next week.”
Among the progeny of King’s Best, who won the 2,000 Guineas for Stoute ten years ago, are top milers Proclamation and Creachadoir, along with the speedy King’s Apostle, who won the Group 1 Prix Maurice De Gheest for William Haggas last year.
Grimthorpe also said the John Gosden-trained Showcasing, winner of the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing
Gimcrack Stakes at York last August, was likely to bypass the 2,000 Guineas – for which he is 33-1 with the sponsor – in favour of a sprint campaign.
Also, can’t believe that they’ve already ruled the Derby out for Workforce. His year older half-brother, Extreme Impact, by Rock Of Gibraltar, has only run in two Flat races, and they were over 13 and 14f.February 22, 2010 at 14:10 #278403Bit suprised Workforce will not go for Derby as along with Cape Blanco they were my 2 Derby horses if ST Nicholas Abbey was not in the race.
And i have added Treble Jig on my horse to look out for.I think he may suprise people this year.
February 22, 2010 at 14:20 #278407They could change their minds as usually happens. Strange though….Workforce would want to win a trial in a canter for me to think he is up to top class. Reminds of that Stoute Colt last year that was injured for the 2000 Guineas. Can’t remember the name
February 22, 2010 at 15:18 #278415Strangely enough the one horse i am most excited about is Flying Cross.
Wouldn’t it be a dream to a get a final Derby Winner from Saddlers Wells….i would have said the Irish Derby but if St Nicholas Abbey will go for the Derby Double if good enough.
I think he is the Ballysax/Derrinstown Horse
February 22, 2010 at 15:21 #278416Gerald
TEDDY GRIMTHORPE, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdulla, on Monday moved to clarify the position surrounding the exciting Sir Michael Stoute-trained two-year-old Workforce and the Investec Derby.
Gromthorpe said: "No decision as regards the participation of Workforce in the Derby has yet been taken."
February 22, 2010 at 15:26 #278417That makes more sense, Wallace.
I wouldn’t have thought though that “Workforce won’t be going for the Derby" needed clarification.
Maybe what he meant was that Workforce wouldn’t be supplemented/entered at second stage.
February 22, 2010 at 15:29 #278418Yes baffling decision not to enter Workforce in the Derby tbh if that’s what their thinking
February 23, 2010 at 01:01 #278518Flying Cross won a race at Navan. But how good we don’t know. Check the Ballydoyle horses that finished close up behind him and they were first timers!I noted at least three.Falcon Flight(Montjeu) Rocket Man(Montjeu) Rain Forest(Sadler’s Wells)And down the field was another, Quest For Gold(Sadler’s Wells). If they make the "usual" progress there will be dragons coming from the yard next year.
February 23, 2010 at 15:04 #278582As Flying Cross is out of a Diesis mare, who is responsible for either the last 3 or 3 out of 4 St Leger winners, I’ll make him my Official St Leger selection!
February 23, 2010 at 17:03 #278602That is surely jumping the gun Gerald.just make him your unofficial St Leger choice until at least we see how he has done over the winter.(the gene pool for the St Leger is probably rather small)I don’t know what I am talking about but it sounds scientific.
February 23, 2010 at 17:24 #278611I understood that STS was by a miler also and that did not stop him running in the Derby. By the way what makes a two year old an exciting two year old?
