Encompassing from the same family as Pursuit of Glory(homebred) aswell as Captain James Cook entered up at Tipp on Sunday.
October 2, 2009 at 18:05 #251285Thanks lol(lots of Love)
I used to play lots of Bridge. The first time I saw lol in an email, I thought it stood for little old lady.
October 2, 2009 at 18:13 #251286I think Nick Mordin deserves a little credit for once for highlighting Special Duty. (I know, she hasn’t won the Guineas yet.)
Gosh, just found out that Tracey Collins is a woman!
At some stage during the winter I am going to get dragged into doing an AP bet on Tabassum.
October 3, 2009 at 00:10 #251344What race will suit Captain James Cook. Will it be the 2000 guineas or will he be a derby horse. What do you guys think
October 3, 2009 at 00:23 #251345Derby since he doesnt have a Irish Guineas entry
October 3, 2009 at 04:55 #251395Well Lady Of The Desert ran pretty much the perfect race for the 1000 Guineas, delighted with that even though my £5 treble sunk at the first hurdle.
Esaar collared by Fallon in the final 100 yards to let down my double with Awzaan though He’s gone from the 2000 Guineas reckoning, and Mushreq’s gone from Derby contention as well.
Captain James Cook, as has been already said, confirmed to run at Tipperary, thank god as I can happily remove him now from my reckoning. Fighting Brave confirmed for Dundalk, a bit of a concern but perhaps they just don’t want to run him on soft.

Picking out Special Duty was hardly imaginative, was it Gerald?
Do you think Lady Of The Desert is going to see out a mile well enough after that performance, Zarkava? Before today I had her almost nailed on for the 1000 Guineas, but losing second place late on has me questioning that (to some degree at least).
Overall it’s been a confusing couple of days. Special Duty was undeniably impressive and deserves her position at the head of the 1000 Guineas betting, but other races don’t appear to have been run to form and I think there are a number of results which can be overlooked without much hesitation.
October 3, 2009 at 06:42 #251400I do, I just think she was completely done for speed today. On pedigree both Misheer and Special Duty are just total speed balls and LOTD just couldn’t live with them in the final furlong. She also pulled hard which didn’t help her cause. They can run her in the Fred Darling (won’t carry a penalty) and that’ll take the edge off for HQ. 21s on the machine is sheer lunacy. She’s been introduced to Newmarket for the first time today as well, another positive for May. And Cape Verdi was beaten 5 lengths by Embassy in the Cheveley, so don’t lose faith.
Actually just remembered that Pekan Three is another that got a mention in the RP yesterday, another on my potential Derby winner list.
Just to remind people, if anybody cares, my current picks are 2000; Kingsfort (how on earth can the price be bigger now than before he won the National?) & Al Zir, 1000; Lady Of The Desert, Lady Darshaan and Foolish Ambition and my main Derby pick is Coordinated Cut.
October 3, 2009 at 17:03 #251487Actually read today that LOTD will be aimed at the Pouliches since she didn’t handle the track.

I’m not really thinking in terms of picking the winner of the Cheveley Park, but in pointing out the linking of the run in the Cheveley Park with an attempt on the 1000 Guineas.
"Finally the French have the belief, and the Heads are the firmest believers, that to win a Guineas a French horse must have experience of Newmarket at two. This may be one of those self-fulfilling prophecies but the very fact that Head is aiming Special Duty at the Middle Park strongly suggests she’s thinking of the Guineas for the filly."
October 4, 2009 at 00:01 #251552Gerald, it was pretty obvious after she was declared in the Morny that she was thinking of the 1000 with her, Maarek loves the race to pieces.

Special Duty has now shown twice she is an exceptionally fast filly. Even if Hughsie is correct and Canford Cliffs wasn’t at the top of his game the form is obviously very good. My worry with Special Duty is she is exceptionally fast and very often when they are tat fast they don’t get the mile. Can’t say I’ve seen a better 2yo filly this season and she’s obviously very classy but 6/1 seems very short despite having seen that 6f trip out very well……Perhaps she has the class to see out the trip and 2f may not seem much but it’s along way to go on an empty tank
October 4, 2009 at 10:45 #251622Okay, just for a laugh I’ll quote Mordin again.
In addition Special Duty was hardly stopping. Despite setting a scorching early pace she clocked 11.5 seconds for the final furlong. This suggests she can get longer. As I’ve mentioned Special Duty’s sire stayed beyond a mile and gets plenty of horses which do the same. And her dam is a half sister to two US Grade 1 winners over nine furlongs. She has the build of a miler to my eye too.

The £400,000 she picked up will have leapfrogged Danehill Dancer above Cape Cross for leading sire.I’ve managed to secure the remaining £3.60 @ 1.7 on Danehill Dancer as a mini-saver against my £5 @ 12 on Cape Cross.
(Anything Sea The Stars picks up in France, won’t count towards the B&I title.)
October 4, 2009 at 12:23 #251641Yup, that’s exactly why he ran both Lillie and Alfred.
October 4, 2009 at 17:30 #251732Captain James Cook absoutely desperate for a well backed newcomer.
That performance rules him out now….showed everything you didn’t want to see.
His mind was all off the game…tongue sticking out flashing the tail.
Ohhh Yuck!!!!!
