Surely there must be a huge doubt about Caravaggio getting a mile considering his breeding. Even the trainer had doubts about stepping up to six furlongs as he has so much speed.
June 21, 2016 at 17:57 #1252750You would think he would struggle to go further than 6f but the way he ran on at Ascot suggests he may stay beyond 6f. A fabulous looking colt as well. Just has that something about him.

It looks as if the punters believe he can get a trip next year. His position in the Guineas betting suggests that.
I would be more worried whether he might be precocious this year and not train on at 3yo.
I pondered taking 25/1 for the Guineas before the Coventry but decided against it.
Dawn Approach started early in his season, and also at 5F. He had similar concerns to Caravaggio but managed to pull it off in the Guineas.
In Caravaggio’s favour is that he is not a point and blaze 5F horse. He looked at Ascot as if he would get 7F on faster ground.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 22, 2016 at 17:09 #1252832Steve some intresting maidens in ireland over next few days that include 2yo maidens at a 1m so should be a few derby contenders over next few weeks.
What your view on 2yo fillies i not been impressed so far in terms of a 1000 guineas horse.

I thought Cuff might put her marker down for the Guineas in the Albany at Royal Ascot but she was pretty disappointing on the day, having looked progressive coming into the race.
Fair Eva is one that I hope is a Guineas filly, she could hardly have started her career in better style.
It seems early days but I thought Nasimi made a promising start for Godolphin and it looked like the experience would bring her on a load from her first run, although in the past some of these promising 1st time Godolphin winners fail to go forward on their second run.
Nasimi is a daughter of Shamardal and she finished really well to win by 3 lengths last time. She is entered at Newmarket on Saturday in a listed race and the ground there is currently soft, which should not be an inconvenience given it was good to soft on her debut. She might be an interesting prospect.
I’ll be keeping an eye open in Ireland and France for any nice sorts.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 22, 2016 at 21:31 #1252854I wouldn’t underestimate Brave Anna – big and strong for a filly her age, type to progress further

Brave Anna was briefly favourite for the the 1000 Guineas after her first win I believe. She’s a well made sort for sure. The Racing Post pushed Brave Anna up by a stone to 103 for winning the Albany, while Cuff was deemed to have run 6lbs below her previous form. Runner up Bletchley was raised 23 lbs to share Brave Anna’s 103 rating.
These fillies are a long way behind Lady Aurelia for now, as she earned a whopping Racing Post Rating of 123 for her Queen Mary performance.
Obviously these are very different types of fillies who will probably vary in improvement rates and levels, plus training on to different degrees of success.
Lady Aurelia is only 1lb behind Air Force Blue’s mark after he won the Dewhurst, which is insane at this time of the season. Even Caravaggio on 115 would have some task on his hands.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 22, 2016 at 22:35 #1252856Brave Anna is certainly NOT the type to progress much further, as others have said. Her precocious strength will not give her an edge forever.
Still, she might reach a higher level on better ground this season. It is a mark of her juvenile ability that she can win on soft surfaces despite wheelspinning her way through it. She’ll presumably be busy this year en route to the Breeders’ Cup. You wouldn’t want to have a penny on her for the Guineas though.
Personally I’ll be surprised if Caravaggio goes on to become a miler. I’m rooting for him to be Ballydoyle’s next Mozart, Stravinsky or Starspangledbanner. With the stamina influence of most Coolmore stallions, AOB doesn’t get many sprinters to work with.

I wouldn’t back Brave Anna for the Guineas but that’s mostly because she is by War Front and we have seen enough of those failing to deliver at 3YO. War Command, who hosed up in the Coventry and was short favourite for the 2000 Guineas is one example.
Her brother Hit It A Bomb was off my radar for the 2000 Guineas for the same reason, and when they sent him to the Breeder’s Cup it was like the kiss of death, because recent winners of the colts race there have been bobbins the following season.
I think Brave Anna can bring her rating forward this year. Time will tell on that one but I wouldn’t be doing her for the 1000 Guineas.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 23, 2016 at 13:34 #1252905War Decree is down to run on Sunday in the Railway stakes. I’m guessing that might go off favourite.
Trainer seems in love with these war fronts but if it’s true about them not training on then you wonder why that is the case?
I wouldn’t be certain about Brave Anna confirming the form with the runner up Bletchley if they met again, given how fast that one was finishing.
Btw Steve Nasimi is no longer a runner on Sat. Will be able to get some kind of handle on the Fair Eva form though as Nation’s Alexander has been declared.
June 25, 2016 at 13:02 #1253110Nasimi’s race hasn’t been working out. Six runs since and all unplaced so far. Mind you, she came away from them easily that day.
Nation’s Alexander has been pitched in pretty deep for a maiden and this looks very tough for her.
It’s been quiet on this thread and surprisingly there hasn’t really been an impressive O’Brien debut winner to get really excited about this past couple of months.
Intelligence Cross runs today after a promising 2nd on debut and is odds on. He could easily impress today.
There was a tight maiden during the week where Joseph’s horse with the benefit of experience won from some of his father’s debutantes. I felt Diodorus, who was ultimately third, looked a scopey sort who would come on a ton for the run and perhaps be the one to take from the race.
I am hoping things can change and that we will get a good first time winner tomorrow at the Curragh.
Taj Mahal is the O’Brien colt I have been looking forward to most. He is a full brother to Gleneagles and perhaps, as a January foal, he will be more forward than some. As you would expect, he has tons of big entries.
Aidan also saddles another Galileo colt in Inca Gold but Ryan is on Taj Mahal and I assume that is indicative of number 1 status on the day.
Sanus Per Aquam won this last year and Gleneagles himself the year before that. Roderic O’Conner won it in 2010, so it will be disappointing if there isn’t a good one on show tomorrow.
War Decree is a non-runner in the Railway Stakes and for me it is an uninspiring renewal. It looks quite a poor standard for a Group 2 race.
Taj Mahal for me tomorrow is the main event.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I roughly hand timed Nasimi from the four furlong pole expecting her to be devastatingly fast compared to other races on that card but to be honest she wasn’t which surprised me. Maybe another one that looks devastatingly impressive but the evidence doesn’t back up the visual impression.
June 25, 2016 at 15:23 #1253134Well maybe I should take all that back as Nations Alexander just boosted the form of both Nasimi and Fair eva in a massive way
June 25, 2016 at 15:25 #1253135Good news for Fair Eva – Nations Alexander winning comfortably at Listed level.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
June 25, 2016 at 15:31 #1253137Well Fair Eva could not have gotten a better boost as Nations Alexander wins at 8/1 and with a bit in hand.
The one factor to be concerned about for Fair Eva would be the going at Newbury being soft, so they may go to Haydock the same day, where the ground is listed as good.
I said at the start that the Racing Post Rating for Fair Eva of 90 was desperately low looking and Nations Alexander will probably find herself with a rating a good bit in excess of that herself now, making the Racing Post figure for Fair Eva look silly.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
June 25, 2016 at 17:16 #1253158Yes we having loads of rain here in Oxford so Newbury likely to stay soft so Haydock could be the option. I made the point that horses very rarely get given their true ratings in maidens because there is no way of knowing how good the form is until they all run again. I think we all knew Fair Eva was a lot better than 90 and today proved it. So far so good for your AP bet Steve.

There’s a long way to go Joni but I like the look of Fair Eva. The Racing Post had Nations Alexander sitting on 89 as a rating last night and now it’s 75. God knows where they are getting these figures from.
Looking forward to Taj Mahal today. Given the lack of good colts thus far I have popped a few quid on this brother of Gleneagles for the 2000 Guineas and The Derby at 25/1 and 40/1.
Maybe he will need today’s run but the market seems confident, so perhaps he might beat his brother’s debut 4th. Gleneagles won today’s race on his second start 2 years ago.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
