Bint Al Reem ran very green and at one stage it looked as if her
lack of racecourse experience would find go against her- but when she
eventually got the gist of things , she ran on well to put her head
in front where it matters . Definitely the best looking filly
in the paddock and looks the progressive type. One to keep an eye on.

Taking on Heroic Heart tomorrow in the 6.15 at Newmarket with the Godolphin newcomer
Bint Al Reem currently 4/1 ridden by W.Buick, every chance that price
will look pretty good if she turns out well in the paddock and Charlie Appleby won this
race last year with a newcomer. To quote Ginge ‘she looks the value in this race’ :good:

Bint Al Reem is the favourite now Jac. The 4/1 is long gone, so well done on that front. The winning of it is usually the more tricky part though. On the plus side, I reckon that first time out is the best time to catch these Godolphin 2yos.

Luca Cumani has a 650,000 Guineas newcomer in there and that’s an expensive purchase for his stable. The Galileo filly doesn’t seem at all fancied tonight at 12/1 though and is one of those who will probably take in two or three maidens this year before heading into a 3yo career along the lines of fillies like Pamona and Lady Of Dubai this year.

Stoutie has one in there as well and had a promising looking one run yesterday when not beaten far in second by a Hannon runner who had the benefit of a run already. That filly is called Honorina and she is a daughter of Sea The Stars, owned by Qatar Racing. The filly running tonight is called Triathlon and she doesn’t seem fancied at the moment, despite the Stoute/Abdullah combination.

Notary is a Lawman filly representing Roger Varian and the stable are finally going well after a very quiet start to the season.

Heroic Heart sets the standard but it’s by no means an unassailable level and I would probably side with the Godophin filly with the market speaking for her, but not a backable price now at 13/8.

    Good luck :good:

Really pleased with my 4/1 about Bint Al Reem last night Steve :good: it was extremely generous and although green she rallied up the hill and it takes a tough filly to get home FTO on the July Course. Definitely one to follow.
I’m putting some of my winnings onto Festive Fare at Hamilton tonight so fingers crossed. Jac

Tasleet just still looks green as grass. Definitely quickened in the latter stages, he just looks a big baby, shown greenness on every start so far and looks like we are no where near seeing the best of him yet. He is an enigmatic horse if nothing else and that makes him exciting enough to watch at least, da boy got character. B-)

Well done with Tasleet tbracing, I think we are getting a few nice 2yo’s together on here to follow through the season and who knows there might just be a Classic winner amongst them for next year. :rose: Jac

The trouble with these Godolphin 2yo’s is the tendency to go off next time at short odds with the Timeform preview saying “Sure to improve” and they then get beaten.

Steady Pace was an excellent example of that this year when easily disposing of King Of Rooks on his debut but then getting hammered by the same horse in a form turn around of nine lengths on their next meeting.

Perhaps something to consider if going in at short odds next time.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

It looks like London is second string tomorrow Darren. Joseph is on Shogun and the betting has him as 2/1 fav with London 10/1 in the very early shows.

It’s a guessing game at best this early in a career but based on Shogun’s last effort I wouldn’t want to be with him at the odds. It is also worth noting that the O’Brien second, or even third, string sometimes pop up and win over the more fancied one and last time Shogun ran it was Lieutenant General who did better, with a cheeky wee gamble in from 10/1 to 5/1 before being second to Sanus Per Aquam. Lieutenant General went on to flop at 1/3 next time but the Bolger colt went on to hose up next time and become favourite for Guineas and Derby.

Just a race to watch for clues later in the season. There is a chance one of these might be more than useful and London could be one of the seemingly millions of Galileo colts who makes a name for himself.

There is some contrast between the cost of Clear Skies at half a million guineas and Tasty Ginger, who was £1600

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

O’Brein runs Johannes Vermeer at tipperary today in 7f maiden

Jim Bolger has a newcomer at The Curragh tomorrow Darren.

Leafy Shade is by New Approach and Jim must think a bit of her as she is entered in a Group 3 and the Group 1 Moyglare.

Final Frontier runs in the Gp3 Anglesey today and is 5/4 favourite to build on an impressive debut. Antelope Canyon re-opposes but has a bit to do to reverse the form despite winning himself next time. Jim Bolger’s Queen Of Sicily is second favourite and respected after a good debut herself. Apparently Jessica Harrington thinks a lot of Final Frontier and I am sure the phone may be ringing if he lands this well today.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

There is an interesting runner at The Curragh tomorrow.

The 3.05 race sees Aidan O’Brien’s Shogun have another go after only managing 7th when hot favourite on his debut. He seemed well short of pace that day and they have stuck the blinkers on this time.

The most fascinating one for me is Clear Skies, who is by Sea The Stars out of Out West, who was the Dam of Derby winner Motivator. Clear Skies cost half a million guineas and is owned by J P McManus. It would be hoped that the David Wachman trained filly doesn’t need to go over the sticks to earn JP some of her purchase price.

It is interesting that she tackles colts first time out and she holds an entry in the Moyglare Stud Stakes.

Shogun was too good for them today and won well. Clearly the experience helped and the blinkers may also have woken him up. No harm to Sanus Per Aquam’s form there.

Clear Skies made an eye-catching debut. She was held up and had plenty to do but stayed on really well for fourth place. I feel that with a clearer run and slightly further she would have been a good second today A mile will help her, as will the experience and she would be of strong interest in a maiden next time. I think that was a very encouraging effort and just a suggestion the money may not have been wasted on her.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Lumiere may be out as early as Saturday at Ascot in the Princess Margaret Juddmonte Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3)

Very early days and the other fillies got a tanking in Lumiere’s maiden but the 4th that day, Rio’s Cliffs was warm favourite for a maiden next time, where Richard Hannon’s Madhatten was the early favourite but drifted ominously before finishing last. Rio’s Cliffs wasn’t much better, 6th of the 7 runners and beaten further than she was by Lumiere the time before.

Of those entered in Saturday’s race Ashadihan and Besharah probably bring the best form to the table via there runs behind Illuminate, and their participation would give the best chance to evaluate how good Lumiere is.

Leafy Shade was successful for Jim Bolger on her debut. It didn’t end up as comfortable as appeared likely at one stage but she rewarded the faith against a somewhat surprisingly short priced Tommy Stack runner who never got involved despite the money for a stable who do not do well with newcomer 2yo’s. Bolger is hopeful that she will turn out to be quite useful in time but she will need to step up a fair bit I think.

My worry would be if the trainer knows how to place group 1 horses and doesn’t over run her.
He would of ran Attraction 10 times as a two year old given the chance….

Lumiere is a long way off that ability but has plenty of potential and needs the right race programme.

Nice racing at Leopardstown in terms of 2yos got the maiden Camelot won before his win at Epsom and two nice 2yo group races.Alice Springs vs Tanza. And SANUS PER AQUAM makes his 3rd start unbeaten so far and for me the 2000 guineas winner i took the 14s with hills today.

That’s a good line up for a Thursday at Leopardstown Darren. It will be a bit disappointing of there are not movements in the Classic Ante Post market in the aftermath.

Alice Springs is the best filly I think I have seen this year. Lumiere was impressive but Aidan’s filly has the breeding to be special and she showed an awful lot in her first start. I liked the way she came between horses when the gap threatened to close on her and she quickened in the style of a good one. I was interested in her for the Guineas after that race and she stayed at 25/1 for a few hours before being cut to 16/1 afterwards. I will be gutted if she can’t win this and the trainer should have a line on Tanaza, through Minding, who was runner up to her before winning well herself next time. Weld’s filly is respected but when watching her run last time I wasn’t sure how progressive she will prove to be, as I preferred the physical presence of Minding as a long term proposition.

Sanus Per Aquam seems to have struggled to fire the imagination of anyone other than the bookies. I liked him first time up and he disposed of Port Douglas with ease next time. My suspicion is that the Derby might be better for him than the Guineas but he looks a powerful galloper either way, with the slight concern being his eerie similarity to sire Teofilo, who never ran after 2yo. I was hoping to take on Deauville as a potential once raced O’Brien runner who could go off short next time but he runs here and won’t be favourite, so I can’t put him up as a shortie to avoid. He won on bad ground last time and I just wonder how good a race it was, so I feel he’s up against it this time.

In the opening maiden we should finally get to see General Macarthur. He’s had a few entries he didn’t keep and I am assuming they have been waiting for the better mile maidens to come along. Obviously not the fastest War Front youngster judging by starting him at 8 furlongs, he looks first choice for the yard on bookings, albeit that it wouldn’t be the first time a perceived lower pecking order individual landed the spoils. I am yet to be convinced about War Front for potential Classic progeny but murmurs from early in the season mean it would not be a surprise to see General Macarthur end up in something like The Racing Post Trophy if he makes the right start to his career.

I don’t think it’s often that you have dual Guineas/Derby, Guineas/Oaks favourites on the menu on a Thursday evening and it’s a fascinating prospect for long range prognosticators.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Was Deauville the horse Matt Chapman went absolutely bonkers over?
I remember Alive Alive Oh hacking up early on in her career and Chapman and co on ATR going well over the top only for her to flop. Winning really well on bad ground can be deceiving I guess.

Yes, that was the one Nathan. Chappers was imploring the French TV interviewer to ask O’Brien about Deauville.

Chapman got worked up about Born To Sea when John Oxx’s colt made a winning debut, declaring that the horse should be favourite for the 2000 Guineas. The horse was duly beaten at odds on next time out and never won another race.

Sanus Per Aquam is odds-on tomorrow, so Chappers’ superstar in waiting will have to upset the form to floor Bolger’s strong travelling colt.

The Racing Post Ratings have Bolger’s colt on 103 and Deauville on 86, so that gives a fair edge to the more experienced of the two runners. Deauville has scope to leave his debut form behind but I reckon the early Evens on Sanus Per Aquam was money lying in the street.

With Alice Springs at an early 13/8, it would have formed a nice thick double for me in my heyday.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

General Macarthur a little uneasy, out from a shade of odds on to 5/4 and a bit slow looking on his debut. Not by any means the first of O’Brien’s colts to need their first run but a shade disappointing nonetheless. Not one for me at the moment anyway.

Nice boost through the winner Corstorphine for Sanus Per Aquam later on, as John Oxx’s colt was only 8th behind Bolger’s horse on his debut.

Later on the card Alice Springs could never quite match the burst shown by Tanaza in her race. The other filly had made a great debut herself when beating Minding and may well prove a top juvenile this season. The issue I have with her is that she is a little bit smaller than some of them and while that may not be a problem this year I just wonder if one or two of them may improve past her in time. This was a strong claim from the Weld filly to take high rank for races like the Moyglare and next seasons Classics and she was probably underestimated by myself and Timeform, who had previewed the race as one that “Alice Springs can take in her stride”

Alice Springs was pushed out to 20/1 for the Guineas in the aftermath, while Tanaza was cut to between 12/1 and 28/1. Several firms are 25/1 on her but that won’t be available if you lift the telephone in my opinion. I am sure she will be general favourite in the morning.

Aidan O’Brien probably has plenty other ammunition and Earring is a Dansili filly who has crept into the Guineas betting at 16/1 with a couple of firms, so I assume there are dogs barking somewhere.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
