Thread every year where we chat about 2yos and there potential to be top 3yos.
ROUND TWO looks like being the best we seen so from 2yo beat Argentino on debut though was getting weight from him.Won at 5f next and a short price for Coventry.Bolger loves the colt as well and single figures for 2000 guineas.
LOG OUT ISLAND.Was a nice winner now at Godolphin though Hannon still train him.
ARGENTINO won 2 out of 3 but goes for railway stakes only Round two beat him so far.
Also some unraced horses to keep a eye out on are below. Also there is a Dubawi colt who is related to Australia and a
coolmoore colt who is related to Harbinger both not been named yet.LONDON
BIRTHPLACE
LANDOFHOPEANDGLORY
MONARCHApart from coventry any 2yo races you like look of at Royal Ascot
June 5, 2015 at 01:48 #1092858The brother to Harbinger has been named Londonderry Air apparently.
Some other interesting unraced 2yos to follow.
Proconsul – Frankel’s brother trained by Fabre.
Coolmore – Obviously because of the eye-catching name but the dam has produced two runners so far, both classic winners (Marvellous and Gleneagles).
That said, the equally excitingly-named Ballydoyle was fairly disappointed on debut, but I think the filly that beat her that day, Miss Katie Mae, may be worth following.
Air Vice Marshall – Cost 2.2 million and related to multiple Group 1 winners in the US. He was entered straight into a Listed last week (the one Argentero won) but was scratched at the last minute because of the bottomless ground.
I also quite quite like Schubert (War Front-Score) – Similar profile to Air Vice Marshall and cost 1.3 million at Keeneland.June 5, 2015 at 11:07 #1093559Just started to notice a few useful 2yo’s namely:-
SHALAA (Invincible Spirit) trained by John Gosden.
Completely missed the break in his first run but put all that to rights when running away with Cl.4 Maiden at Newmarket LTO beating Fang (Lawman) and the well thought of Nissar (Dream Ahead). All 3 look worth following this season.
I was at Newmarket last Saturday and Shalaa was extremely impressive in the paddock looking more like a 3yo whereas Nissar looked as though he had some growing to do and might come right a bit later in the season.
So at the moment my 3 to watch out for:-
SHALAA *** – John Gosden
Fang – Brian Meehan
Nissar – Richard HannonGreat to see the 2yo’s develop and Shalaa actually won the race that Peacock won last year, so I think he is the best prospect of the three.

If Shalaa is half as good as Peacock, he’ll be crap……

June 9, 2015 at 22:02 #1100827Agreed Nathan Al Dallah looked a nice sort this evening 3rd to Hannon’s Dark Angel filly.
Also keep an eye out for La Rioja short of room early she picked up really well.

Painted Cliffs was 25/1 favourite for the Guineas in one of the first ante-post lists I saw this year Darren. He was well beaten on his debut and that early quote looked all wrong at the time. The trainer says that they may take the blinkers off him next time.
Being by Canford Cliffs it is kind of early to be thinking about backing this horse for the 2000 Guineas. Will he get a mile? Will he train on well from two to three? I think it is tricky to call with these first season sires.
I was impressed by both Minding and Alice Springs, the latter in particular. The way the daughter of Galileo coped with the way the race panned out convinced me that she is above average by a fair way. As she was about to make her challenge the front two horses started to close together and it looked like she might be the meat in the sandwich but she forced her way through onto the rail and quickened away from them. We have seen how much the stable’s youngsters improve from their first run and Alice Springs has the size to progress and become a major player at three.
Final Frontier put up a great start to his career. It is hard to say how solid the form is yet but he earned a good enough rating from The Racing Post. I would expect to see one of the big buyers make a move for this son of Dream Ahead shortly. Might buy him myself if I find a Picasso in the attic.
There are plenty more well bred animals due out over the next couple of months but I feel Alice Springs is one to keep a serious eye on. She is a worthy favourite for me in the Guineas. The USA runner Acapulco is all speed and could end up a silly price for Newmarket if she wins the Nunthorpe. A mile next spring is a world away from 5f now and she makes no appeal. Australia did the trick, take Alice Springs to do the double for Oz!
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 1, 2015 at 08:03 #1118643Painted cliffs improved hugely from second to third race and fairly scooted away from rock away valley who was only as head behind Air Force blue on debut. Hard to say if he will stay the mile but I think he will be tried over at least seven furlongs. Alice springs looked very good indeed but minding I thought looked like it was still quite raw and will probably improve a great deal. Burantino is apparently the top rated 2yo with time form just ahead of pained cliffs. I’d say that sounds about right. Ballydoyle were behind in the spring due to the wet weather so expect a lot of 2yos out in the next few weeks.
July 1, 2015 at 10:28 #1119300Liked the look of Tasleet at Chepstow yesterday. Low key meeting so might go under the radar a bit, but he comes out of a fair York maiden on debut where he was very green and it is working out well, 2nd, 3rd and 4th have won since now.
Raced a shade keen early yesterday looking like the field just was not going quick enough for him, when he was allowed to stretch on in the latter stages he come clear comfortably and looked a good deal better than the bare result. Plenty of ability, looks pretty speedy overall by Showcasing, dam was by Cadeaux Genereux and was a half sister to Barry Hills decent filly Etlaala who won the Champagne Stakes and a couple of listed races as a 4yo as well as placing in the July Cup as a 3yo.
I will make him a very very early shout for the Commonwealth Cup
