Hall of fame did indeed pay a huge compliment to highland reel and that horse should be followed. Gleneagles beat highland reels maiden conquerer tombalaine later on the card so it looks like the two obrien 2yos are well above average.Expect that both horses may end up at newmarket on future champions day.
July 25, 2014 at 17:16 #486365Home of the Brave done it very easily, no messing about from James Doyle who let him go on in front and was never troubled. Another Star Spangled Banner 2yo who looks quite useful.
July 25, 2014 at 17:31 #486367Yes, very nice stuff from Home Of The Brave and smart tactics for such a free goer as Denman said.
Atletico looked a useful horse and there were some well-bred newcomers in there, so the form should be pretty solid. Onwards and upwards from here I hope!
July 26, 2014 at 13:33 #486496I thought Peacock was very disappointing today. I suppose the vibes haven’t been good regarding him these past few weeks and perhaps we saw why today. He doesn’t look a classic contender to me after the race today. Kodi Bear did it nicely enough and paid a compliment to Coventry winner The Wow Signal. Funnily enough Kodi Bear made his debut behind Adaay in a maiden that saw six future winners. Kodi Bear is clearly coming forward, whereas Adaay went backwards.
As Jimmy Greaves might say, "It’s a funny old game"
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 26, 2014 at 13:49 #486498Yeah that burst my bubble Steve.
Hannon was on the morning line the other week and belted out a load of his good two years with no mention of Peacock. I managed to run up £40 on him for the guineas, just been in town to take back my sons library books and gave the voucher to a tramp who can make better use of it by putting his 2 week old chewing gum in it overnight whilst sleeping.
Perhaps he didn’t get his morphine in his feed this morning. The horse that is not the tramp.Blackbeard to conquer the World
July 29, 2014 at 14:31 #486752Ivawood
is back out tomorrow in The Richmond and opening odds from Paddy Power put him in at 8/13
Hopefully he can do better than Beacon and Toormore, who were both beaten at odds-on for the stable today.
Aidan O’Brien’s
East India
made a winning start to his career and went in as co-favourite for the 2000 Guineas. Yet another son of Galileo he may next run at the Curragh in the Futurity on 24th August after winning the race Epsom hero Australia took last year.
It’s Thursday that Ivawood runs and it’s Highland Reel that is out tomorrow for Aidan O’Brien. It will be interesting to see if Highland Reel can cope with the drop back in trip at Goodwood on a surface where the track records were under pressure today.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 30, 2014 at 15:10 #486899Most impressive by Highland Reel and he shot to the head of next year’s Derby betting. There is a lot to like about the way he moves and he has already won at a mile.
Ivawood has his chance to respond tomorrow and Richard Hughes is bullish, calling him his banker of the week. He believes that the horse will improve for the faster ground and it will be fascinating to see if the horse proves the confidence is justified.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 30, 2014 at 17:44 #486913Hugely promising run by highland reel. As graham Cunningham said so alike st Nicholas abbey. Needs a lot further than seven furlongs but could follow Australia’s guineas followed by derby route. Remember a lot of the 2yos at ballydoyle will be much better towards the back end of the season as I’m sure a few were setback by the cough. I wouldn’t be surprised if aiden as two or three more as good if not better than this horse. Still a very good marker by a horse running short of his best. The runner up in his maiden win(12 lengths back) scooted up next time so the result wasn’t a shock.
July 31, 2014 at 14:58 #487047The channel 4 team hummed and hawed about Ivawood and were pretty negative about him being the short price he was.
Luckily, horses don’t listen to pundits and he blew his field away conceding 3lb all round.
Afterwards there was doubt cast about the Sire and whether Ivawood is just a fast horse but his odds for the 2000 Guineas were cut to a general 10/1, with Stan James most impressed at a skinny 6/1 now.
Interestingly, it was put forward that well bred horses have still to appear from powerful yards but Graeme Cunningham replied that, in most years, we would have seen the 2000 Guineas winner run by now.
Nick Luck prefers Highland Reel over Ivawood for next year and you can see why, with the guaranteed stamina and sexier Galileo breeding but I would think Ivawood is the best 6f horse out thus far and he should get 7f this year based on the manner in which he has finished his races.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 1, 2014 at 18:31 #487181Highland reel wasn’t a leading horse at ballydoyle till his runaway maiden win at Gowan. Horses like the great Galileo wasn’t out till October and high chaparral in September. It doesn’t mean we haven’t seen either the guineas or derby winner out yet. Both the good wood winners look potentially top class but of course time will tell. Anybody taking 6s for the guineas obviously has money to burn. Highland reels 12to 16s seem more on the mark.
August 1, 2014 at 19:02 #487187Very nice stuff from Ivawood, who certainly looks like the best of what is admittedly not an inspiring bunch at the moment.
I don’t fancy Ivawood’s chances of training-on to great things next year, with his sire Zebedee being retired after his juvenile season and packed off to stud. Ivawood could make hay for the rest of this year, though.
August 3, 2014 at 10:04 #487429Probably worth mentioning Romeo Lima who last week took the opening six furlong maiden at Deauville. It was a race for unraced horses but he started odds on and only had to be pushed out to win by ten lengths. Even if those behind don’t amount to much it will not be much of a surprise if he is above average. Trained by Rouget and owned and bred by Joseph Allen. The dam is a half sister to African Story.
August 4, 2014 at 08:24 #487487What’s the odds of Romeo Lima going to ballydoyle like declaration of war with the tie in of Joseph Allen and coolmore. Looks a good prospect.
August 5, 2014 at 17:07 #487572Interesting business model.Coolmore regularly add new partners.Recently Sheik Altani from Qatar joined in by buying a part of the Derby winner from last year;also some architect from UAE bought a share in Australia.Wonder what they are up to?
August 6, 2014 at 04:34 #487600I realize that my post above was misplaced(located?).However I would like an explanation of the following;
"I don’t fancy Ivawood’s chances of training-on to great things next year, with his sire Zebedee being retired after his juvenile season and packed off to stud. Ivawood could make hay for the rest of this year, though.
I believe Zebedee has over 20 individual tyo winners so far this year, 22 to be exact as of now.Packed off is hardly the best description of his exit to retirement.
I only know the statistic above because I have an interest in a Zebedee filly who just this week went into training with G.Lyons.August 6, 2014 at 09:10 #487602As I understand it, Zebedee went to stud uninjured and in perfect condition at the end of a very successful juvenile season. Although he was a pure sprinter and never a Classic contender, surely you can read something into his retirement.
I realise that owners of top juveniles must have to field big tempting offers all the time. Even so, accepting and shipping the horse off right there without a three-year-old season suggests they knew he was at the peak of his earning potential already and unlikely to train on. Zebedee’s sire Invincible Spirit is starting to shake off his reputation as a sire of two-year-olds thanks to Kingman, Moonlight Cloud and Fleeting Spirit, but he has still produced a disproportionate number of precocious juveniles who have flopped at three and beyond.
Ivawood’s physicality makes me more concerned about his potential to progress as a three-year-old. He is one of the more muscular, complete juveniles on the circuit this year and might just be ahead of the growth and strength curve at the moment. The coming winter would probably even the playing field a great deal.
Here’s a quote from Richard Hannon at the time of Zebedee’s retirement:
"You never like losing one of your best horses, but Zebedee was only small and a sprinter through-and-through, so it would have been tough for him next season against the older speed merchants and I can quite understand Julie accepting an offer for him to stand at stud in Ireland."
August 6, 2014 at 12:02 #487614Twenty two individuals winners to this date.Where did it all go wrong Georgie?
