I’ve had a bet on The Big Dog 33/1 ew with 5plcs. I had a quick look this morning, and was surprised with the price

“I had a quick look this morning, and was surprised with the price”

He will likely be near the top of the weights particularly if the handicapper adds a couple more pounds on him being Irish. Had the chance to exploit his lower mark at Chepstow but wasn’t quite able to do it.

Saturday’s winner Certainly Red looks a perfect National type. I doubt he’d get in this year, but maybe next.

Any news on remastered being entered or not? I know the owners aren’t mad on the race but he’s an ideal type for the modern day race for me.

I’d very much doubt remastered running as owners we know we’ll do not like the race and hence the reasons native river never ran in it

After yesterday I want to back iwilldoit but holding off till he,s qualified , I’ve added Galvin to my prev Fiddlerontheroof and The Big Breakaway bets , surely it all about the GN for Galvin with Cheltenham being a lovely prep , if last year’s winner doesn’t turn up.then he,s the best horse in the race

I’ll bet two for this early on, and I’ll be going with Galvin and Run Wild Fred

Bet Corach Rambler ages ago for this at 25s. Still 20s but I’m very happy with him as my sole bet this far out.

Rumours online that Run Wild Fred is out for the season so might be worth checking.

Thank you for that Nenni. I’m waiting until the entries are out anyway. If by some miracle Run Wild Fred is in there, I’ll probably still bet him. If not, I was thinking about betting pencilfulloflead to go with Galvin

Has anybody wondered out loud whether Ahoy Senor would be considered for the Grand National? Plenty of talk about Noble Yeats to defend that title, of course, but after the Cotswold, why not Ahoy Senor? Russell knows what it takes and must have it in mind! (Though I suspect a clever operation would not have tried to win that race to protect the handicap mark etc).

Yes, I realise that Ahoy Senor (161) is rated 13lbs higher than One For Arthur was rated AFTER winning at Aintree, but he’d get 6 lbs (at least) from Noble Yeats (167) so wouldn’t be lumping round the top weight, which is 11 stone 10 these days.

Or are they putting all their eggs in the Corach Rambler (147) basket?

One For Arthur won in 2018 off 137 and was sixth in 2019 (only beaten 26l) off 154.

I’m probably taking tosh as per, but thought it worth a mention.

Ahoy Senor’s jumping is questionable. The words “not fluent” show up often in his form. It seems like that would be a liability in a National horse.

Miss W, I thought he’d learned a lot about jumping when I saw him on Saturday. He no longer let small errors break his confidence/concentration. He looked much more professional. And I didn’t see any significant mistakes.

QF Lucinda’s stable visit in last week’s Weekender showed her very enthusiastic about Corach Rambler for the National. AS goes Gold Cup then Aintree for the Bowl.

    Pre modification, definitely.

Even with the modifications it’s a race where less than half the field can expect to finish. I wouldn’t take it lightly.

I’d say that’s more a stamina issue than a load of F/UR though.

They go a decent clip the whole way round now.

    Entries out tomorrow.

Still not added Galvin, but will do once confirmed, though in saying that I’d happily sacrifice a few points once NRNB kicks in. I’m thinking more next year for him, but just no way I can leave him.

One horse who interested me at the weekend is Ilikedwayurthinkin. He’s far too low to get in at the moment, but after being brought down on Sunday, he trotted round in his own time, so don’t think it took too much out of him. If it’s the usual fortnight between Entries/Weights, then maybe an opportunity to get him a higher mark somewhere, and the Punchestown National Trial would certainly be ideal.

Hill Sixteen is an interesting one too, but off 143 at the moment, who knows. 100’s the wrong price though.

I’ve added one already though, and it’s Roi Mage. Smashing run behind Minella Indo and Stattler at Tramore, and I loved the way he did it at Down Royal last March. He’s on a perfect mark, and unless he’s injured after his Cheltenham mishap, then I’m fairly positive that he’ll get an entry. I think he’s completely the wrong price.

Delta Work is still too big I reckon at 25’s, and my plan with him, if his season goes as expected, is to use him to cover all bets by laying off. Rarely works out that way of course.

    Delta Work 33’s
    Galvin
    Stattler 125’s
    Roi Mage 150’s EW
