Not really giving this too much of an early look this season, as the weather is too unpredictable right now.

Some interesting ones in there from the Elliot yard, though just too difficult just now to second guess which ones might travel, and that would apply to any of the Irish entries.
I’ll stick with these as the early shortlist, but strictly no bet. The likes of Elegant Escape, Ms Parfois, and Dingo Dollar will have Newbury as priority, but look to deserve their place at the head of the market. Of that trio, I particularly like Dingo, but at bigger prices, this lot make the shortlist, but strictly no bet right now.
Vintage Clouds 14’s
Looksnowtlikebrian 16’s
Ibis Du Rheu 20’s
Impulsive Star 20’s
The Dutchman 25’s
Kansas City Chief 33’s
Otago Trail 33’s
Wild West Wind 33’sI always thought that Otago Trail should run in this, and his win round here three years back is worth a look, while The Dutchman and Wild West Wind look the wrong price.
November 21, 2018 at 18:25 #1386606I’d be all over Ms Parfois for this but odds around 8s already I’ll wait nearer the day.
November 29, 2018 at 21:27 #1387403Am on Ms Parfois at 12s. A nice run round without winning Saturday will do nicely going into this where she will win by half the track.
November 30, 2018 at 18:29 #1387499Otago Trail, who’s probably my early #1 for this, lines up at Newcastle tomorrow, in The Rehearsal Chase.
Nice winner for the yard today, and if I get a glimpse of encouragement tomorrow, I might take the 40’s for Chepstow.
No idea what’s kept him off the track, but he was in great form before, so hoping everything is in the right place at Newcastle.
I’m not convinced he can win both.
November 30, 2018 at 23:06 #1387561Decided to back Otago Trail in case he shortens should he run well, which I suspect he will, tomorrow.
Also backed old favourites Houblon Des Obeaux and Alfie Spinner who both look well handicapped and should get the ground they need. The latter runs off the same mark as last year and would be such a popular winner after his heroics in last season’s race.
Plenty of better horses likely to line up and let’s face it none of these lads are getting any younger, but sentiment is a funny thing!
November 30, 2018 at 23:23 #1387567Good stuff Peter, 40’s is a mad price. His romp round Chepstow a couple of years back screamed Welsh National, and just hope I get to see him in this.
I’ll sort the rest out on the day (hopefully), but I can see Alfie and HDO getting a second look.
December 1, 2018 at 17:18 #1387791Delighted with Ms Parfois. Ran exactly how I wanted for a WN prep. Can’t wait.
December 1, 2018 at 17:58 #1387794I’m jumping on the Otago Trail bandwagon, I checked on Oddschecker expecting to
see all the firms had shortened him up today after his bold run under
top weight at Newcastle. Nearly all have, but BetVictor have held his
odds at 33/1. I’ll happily have some of that
Peter that’s a cracking looking bet at 40s, Bobby you highlighted him
earlier, I hope you took the price too
December 1, 2018 at 20:04 #1387806Watch out for bounce factor with Otago.
December 1, 2018 at 23:28 #1387817Yeah Graham, got the 40’s ok. Few quid on each way, and 40’s+ on the exchange.
Early enough of course, but love this horse, and been desperate to see him in this race for nearly three years. Hope it goes well for him, we at least know he acts round there.
The Dutchman and Folsom Blue would be my backups at this stage. I won’t bet Folsom until final decs, but depending on how the next few weeks go, I could be tempted with The Dutchman at his current price. First things first though is The Becher with him.
December 2, 2018 at 07:18 #1387828Great run by Otago Trail at Newcastle
my worry about this race would be if he’s not allowed to dictate from from the frontGaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
December 2, 2018 at 10:19 #1387831I think they were very disappointed that Folsom Blue missed out on this last year, and I get the feeling that they’ll be more organised this time. 16/1 will do for me, and that’s on the nose.
December 3, 2018 at 18:29 #1387940It’s tempting that 16’s Autumnal, but trying to hold out for now.
The Welsh National Trial is up this Saturday at Chepstow, and some renewals can be informative.
The likes of Alfie Spinner, HDO, Ramses De Teille, and Wild West Wind all very interesting, but I’ll be giving Kansas City Chief a good look.
December 4, 2018 at 18:46 #1388020Duke Des Champs could be a stone better off than his current rating
Both runs over fences during one of the worst periods of form the yard has ever experienced and whilst returning from injury
Not quite sure he’s a Welsh National horse but this shorter trial should be very winnable
December 5, 2018 at 17:47 #1388106Yeah, no entry for him Mark, for the big one, but just had a look at him for Saturday, and he looks to have a fair chance here.
December 5, 2018 at 17:51 #1388107Very pleased I didn’t play one of my backups, The Dutchman, as he didn’t survive the first forfeit stage. I just wonder if there’s an issue with him, which would be a shame, as I thought he’d have a big chase in him this winter.
Other notable withdrawals were Out Sam, and Label Des Obeaux.
December 6, 2018 at 09:21 #1388158Backed final nudge 25/1 EW. Goes well fresh 3rd last year
Good luck all
