The type of going where I sometimes decide not to have a bet as well Ham, but money obviously down.
I really should leave it alone, especially with the saver not going, but as Ucello Conti was my initial fancy, and a strong one at that, I have to make him the saver now. Impacts on my second bet, but I have to be with Flaxen Flare at 40’s each way 5 Places. Hard to fancy on that Paddy Power run, but although I think the target might be something like The Martin Pipe, I still think he is a target horse, so my hands are tied slightly, and I have to be with him as well.
January 25, 2018 at 14:58 #1339002Ucello Conti has to be a bet for me
13/2 is just about fair. Would’ve hoped for a little big bigger but I can understand that price.
January 25, 2018 at 15:10 #1339003Torn them apart
Was a short price all the way round in running
January 25, 2018 at 15:14 #1339005I’ll cross this off the list of races I’ve yet to back the winner of now.
Took 7s so obviously very chuffed considering the SP.
Always confident and given another good ride by Jack.
I see Steve mentioned Monbeg earlier in the week at 16s, I hope he was on.
January 25, 2018 at 17:23 #1339025Yeah, glad I took the price but this was a race where I won’t let hindsight cloud future judgement.
One of those races where you could say “ it was obvious, I wish I’d put more on “ but a novice in a first time visor on awful ground….there will be plenty of those which fail over the next few seasons.7-1 was fair. 7-2 was not.
January 25, 2018 at 17:47 #1339029Well done SteveC and rest of ye who picked the winner, and Flyers getting the place money for Wounded Warrior.
Glad I sat it out as anything I was interested in did rubbish!
January 25, 2018 at 17:58 #1339030I think the writing was on the wall with the jockey arrangements Jack. No harm to Liam,
he’s trying to carve out a career, but over a year since his last winner and still with
his 7lb allowance in place after at least 5 years perhaps tells a story. He actually was
due to carry 10:13, down to 10:06 with his allowance, but he ran no kind of race and was
out of it before they got serious. Perhaps he hasn’t been showing as much at home as they
expected, I don’t know, but if they thought he had a serious chance I would have expected
a more positive jockey booking. You were thinking about betting the winner Jack, I hope you
took the plunge.Another terrific ride by Jack Kennedy, he’s just about the best around in my book. Terrific
pick Steve at 16/1, very well done. A nice winner also for Charles
and Mark. Nice one guysJanuary 25, 2018 at 22:15 #1339057Well done winners
Thanks Grass……another decent january run from WW.
January 26, 2018 at 09:29 #1339093Well done to everyone that was on.
Seems the writing was on the wall when he got hammered in the betting. Should really have followed the money late on, but i always feel like iv missed the boat so to speak and feel reluctant to jump on when half the price than it was 6 hours ago.
Not sure i am willing to forgive a Genie in a Bottle now. Now real excuses over trip/going and I find it far more difficult to put a line through 2 runs as opposed to one.
January 26, 2018 at 16:39 #1339194Thanks for the kind comments. Just a tenner on Monbeg Notorious and a fiver on Champagne West but it’s nice to get one of these winning for a change.
Ucello Conti dropped away to nothing and was very disappointing. Still a maiden over fences and getting hard to forgive these days.
Monbeg Notorious was clouted with a 13 lb rise to 150 by the Irish Handicapper. That’s a rating that would see him sail into the Irish National. 150 would have seen him carry 11st 1lb in Our Duke’s race last year.
Our Duke turned out to be thrown in off 153 (11st 4lb) last year, where he emerged with a new mark of 167 in the aftermath. The much maligned Racing Post had the horse rated 166 going into that race and Our Duke promptly made the Irish Handicapper look clueless with his 153 mark.
Whether Monbeg Notorious will follow in the footsteps of Our Duke is dubious. The Genie is sort of out of the bottle now and decent ground might scupper him if he does head to the Spring race.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
