    HKJC:

World class talent is front and centre in this year’s first stage entries for the HK$93 million LONGINES Hong Kong International Races, with 67 G1 winners among the 262 nominations revealed today, Wednesday, 24 October.

An exciting array of 191 individual horses accounts for the total number of nominations to the four Group 1 contests on Sunday, 9 December, with 70 horses holding entries in more than one race.

The LONGINES Hong Kong International Races is a highly-coveted quartet of outstanding championship races and each contest will offer record prize money this year. The G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Cup (2000m) is worth HK$28 million, an increase of HK$3 million; the LONGINES Hong Kong Mile (1600m) has had its purse upped to HK$25 million; and the LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) and LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (2400m) are now worth HK$20 million apiece.

Japan’s incredible filly Almond Eye is among the host of top-class nominations. Trainer Sakae Kunieda’s brilliant three-year-old recently completed Japan’s Fillies’ Triple Crown and is unbeaten this year from a mile to 2400m. She holds entries for the LONGINES Hong Kong Cup and LONGINES Hong Kong Mile.

Others to note are the French big-hitters Cloth Of Stars, Waldgeist and Talismanic from the powerful André Fabre stable; North America’s exhilarating pair Mind Your Biscuits and Imperial Hint; Japan’s standout speedster Fine Needle, crack miler Mozu Ascot and 2016 Japanese Derby winner Makahiki; Ireland’s big name G1 winners Mendelssohn, Kew Gardens, Capri and Latrobe; recent Longchamp winner One Master and Godolphin’s Blair House; and an exciting batch of Hong Kong’s own star racers, including last year’s victors Beauty Generation (Mile), Time Warp (Cup) and Mr Stunning (Sprint).

Australia is also well-represented, with 24 horses in the 2018 nominations notwithstanding the Australian government’s current ban on horse movements from Hong Kong to Australia. Australia’s significant number of entries – seven more than in 2017 – features 15 G1 winners, including the three-time top-flight scorer Trapeze Artist, the world’s second-best turf sprinter according to the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.

There are some very nice horses in there Wit + the prospect of some very good racing.

The horse I’m interested in is Cloth of Stars, who ran a great race in The Arc.

Wit, I was really interested in the 2yo Vange, who was sold to HK earlier in the year.

Has he been out yet? No idea where to search.

    VtC,

to supplement Patrick’s answer, the place to go is this part of the HKJC site and then click the Former Name link on top of the second column to get an alphabetical list of former names, thus:

    http://racing.hkjc.com/racing/information/english/Horse/HorseFormerName.aspx?frmSortType=HORSE_FORMER_NAME

then click on the horse’s name shown in the first column to get its HK file.

    Morning folks,

    Sprint

    https://campaigns.hkjc.com/hkir/en/hksprint-race-info

Im amazed to see HKP as big as 9/4 with B365. He has lost once in his career (came 2nd back in April to Wishful Thinker who doesnt reoppose here).

Mr Stunning will be a big danger off level weights (lto had to carry 5lb more than HKP) but thought this fella would be odds on.

Good luck whoever you choose but at 9/4 im sticking with my fishy friend :good:

Martin Kelly, ATR rep there said it was going to be a whitewash for European runners with Mirage Dancer his nap, based on impressive work outs at the track, he was tailed off last.

ps Did he get paid for wearing that watch in the preview? It looked like product placement.

Racing Incident Report on the Vase not make for happy reading, especially for William Buick [my emboldening]:

Whilst in the saddling stalls, LATROBE had its right front plate refitted. LATROBE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. PRINCE OF ARRAN began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly at the start. CROCOSMIA lost its right hind plate at the start. Near the 2200 Metres, SALOUEN raced tight inside EZIYRA which became unbalanced and then was shifted out to relieve the tightening to SALOUEN. Z Purton (EXULTANT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 2100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of EZIYRA, resulting in that horse being directed in onto SALOUEN, causing SALOUEN and RED VERDON to be badly crowded for room. LATROBE, which was following those runners, was steadied in consequence. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 19 December 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 27 December 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). Passing the winning post on the first occasion, WALDGEIST became unbalanced of its own accord. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, SALOUEN was left racing wide and without cover. Passing the 1600 Metres, EAGLE WAY got its head up when being shifted in away from the heels of LATROBE. A short distance later, LYS GRACIEUX was shifted out away from the heels of LATROBE. Passing the 1400 Metres, WALDGEIST raced tight inside RED VERDON which lay in momentarily. W Buick (PAKISTAN STAR) pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 450 Metres he directed his mount out at an acute angle when not clear of WALDGEIST, causing that horse and RED VERDON, which was racing to the outside of WALDGEIST, to be severely checked. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey Buick’s guilty plea but also his actions had seriously compromised the safety and welfare of those horses and riders to his outside and had significantly impacted upon the chances of both WALDGEIST and RED VERDON in this race. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed that the appropriate penalty was for W Buick to be suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Monday, 17 December 2018 and to expire on Monday, 28 January 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (12 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, W Buick was fined $20,000. Approaching the 300 Metres, SALOUEN, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped by PAKISTAN STAR which was taken in by LYS GRACIEUX (J Moreira) which shifted in under pressure. J Moreira was severely reprimanded. Passing the 300 Metres, WALDGEIST was steadied when unable to proceed between ROSTROPOVICH which shifted in marginally and EAGLE WAY (S de Sousa) which shifted out when not properly clear. S de Sousa was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Passing the 200 Metres, LATROBE was awkwardly placed outside ROSTROPOVICH which shifted out marginally. Near the 150 Metres, EAGLE WAY was shifted in away from the heels of PAKISTAN STAR which drifted in under pressure. On two occasions after the 150 Metres, EXULTANT was bumped by LYS GRACIEUX (J Moreira) which shifted in. Then passing the 100 Metres, EXULTANT raced tight inside LYS GRACIEUX. J Moreira was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to straighten his mount. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that RED VERDON had sustained a wound to the outside of the left front cannon. A veterinary inspection of MIRAGE DANCER immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. WALDGEIST, EXULTANT and LYS GRACIEUX were sent for sampling.

    =====================================

coincidentally, Buick’s current short-term JRA licence expires the same day (Mon 17 Dec) that the six-week HK suspension starts, so may be worth paying extra attention to his mounts in Japan next weekend.
