Bobby, you’ve been a one man band for Tiger Roll for two years now, and you’ve put your money where your mouth is here B-)

I thought Native River was a shoo in for this but he has been out of it for a while and showed just how good a Welsh National winner he was by landing the Gold Cup.

I haven’t enjoyed the National much these past few years. It’s just another long distance handicap now. Safety comes first but we saw at Cheltenham than fatalities will always be part of the game.

The course has lost it’s character for me and although I had three horses in it last year, including One For Arthur. I didn’t actually watch the race and went shopping instead, getting the result from my taxi driver.

I just don’t see anything I fancy this year. So, for the first time since 1982, I am not going to back anything now. It’s just not the essential viewing it used to be for me.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

SYAM just needs to start in any old egg and spoon race as long as it’s over fences. Pity for them the weather has been so rotten.

I have a free bet left over from Boylesports that had to be used up before tomorrow so put it on Warrior’s Tale at 50s EW. Not having run at Cheltenham may be an advantage this year.

Had two darts at the National today. They both might not run but if turn up will be shorter on the day.

I had high hopes for Morning Assembly. Such a promising horse way back, too.

That’s a shame. Thought I’d played a blinder with him!

Seeyouatmidnight has until April 9th (five day declaration) to find a race to run in to qualify and has another chance next week. :good:

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

VtC; it was kind of obvious that MA wouldn’t run at Aintree after not being declared at Cheltenham. I do still think that this horse could pop up somewhere and win something, though. They wouldn’t persevere with him if the talent wasn’t still there.

Anyone thinking of having a few EW bets closer to the day should remember 365’s offer they normally do. No idea about this year

It’s starting to get very nerve racking now! Houblon Des Obeaux just needs one to come out (granted he shares the same weight with 2 others) and Double Ross needs something like 7 to come out to get a run.

I’ve bet 7 in this race and so far only 1 of them (Saint Are) is guaranteed a run! Between the withdrawals of Morning Assembly and American and the likes of Houblon Des Obeaux, Lord Windermere, Double Ross and Bless The Wings not yet making the cut, I’m starting to think this might not be my year!

I’d be very concerned about Cause of Causes participation after he finished lame in his race. I really am clueless about this years National. I’ve been getting more and more clueless in recent years but this one is a real head scratcher. I have, at least got 50/1 on Tiger Roll, but his size [and breeding] worries me. Hoping that Lord Windermere gets in, as I’m determined for him not to be another Wayward Prince [who paraded at Cheltenham with ‘the oldies’and looked absolutely stunning]. Sizing Codelco ran a mighty race at Cheltenham; would love to know how he would have fared at Aintree. Not sure which ones are likely to get in but my hopes rest on Shantou Flyer, Warriors Tale, I Just Know, Double Ross, Lord W and Final Nudge, most of them at 50’s.

It seems a very long time since my first bet on Polidam went astray, but I am ready to bet my fancies.

The first one is A Genie In A Bottle. He might get the call to go to Fairyhouse instead so the nrnb is crucial here, but at 80-1 I have to take those odds.

The second one is Alpha Des Obeaux. I think he a bit of a price at 66-1, he is a better horse than that.

My third selection is Raz De Maree. I know he will have crept up the weights after Chepstow but that was a great show, and his runner up spot to Native River looks a nice piece of form now. He is 50-1.

I have taken the three of them at non runner no bet, and best odds guaranteed for insurance. I think they are great terms.

I liked Tiger Roll for this immediately after the X-country, but the more i think of it, i wouldnt be sure after the test he had at Chelt, he’d be at his best here.

Probs best to try and get a non-chelt horse for the race….watch me look silly now and a chelt runner bolts up

My second bet for this is Baie des Iles. Guaranteed a run off a low weight, had a nice pop round Punchestown lately, won’t mind if it keeps raining enough for the ground to stay soft, a bit one paced looking but stays.

Backed Tiger Roll, Cause Of Causes and Children’s List.

I have no fears for small horses at Aintree, especially since the fences have been reduced. I was all over Sunnyhill Boy in 2013 and he was a small horse.

Tiger Roll and Cause Of Causes will be obvious considering their performances in the previous 12 months.

More interesting an worth mentioning are my interests in Children’s List and Captain Redbeard.

Children’s List is 100+ on exchanges and for good reason. He’ll be heading to Fairyhouse judging by the prize money and trainers title Mullins will be defending. I couldn’t let him go unbacked here though.

Captain Redbeard is a prgressive horse in form. He only came to my attention when he finished 2nd in the Peter Marsh. I thought that was an eye catching performance for a horse with a stout pedigree testing himself before heading to Aintree. He clearly handles Heavy ground but also handles decent ground equally. His try over the Aintree fences in Decembers Sefton thankfully keeps him under the radar. He was hampered then made a mistake that finished his chance in that race but I saw enough to think that the course holds no fears for him. Since then he’s won the Tommy Whittle, finished runner up in the Peter Marsh and won off a career high mark over hurdles as a prep for this. He’s clearly going the right way with his top 3 RPR have come in the past year.

I feel this horse is seriously under estimated and with the old cliche “if this horse was trained by a bigger trainer” he’d be 20s.

130/1 5 places with Ladbrokes Boost for oldMaggio is not the worst bet in the race.

Missed the cut 2 years ago and then sluiced up in a handicap on the same card.Got injured a week before the race last year when he would of got in.

Needed a run over fences before Tuesday to qualify and they left it very late by running him on Monday. He was down to run at Kelso about 10 days ago and that got cancelled.

The time before he ran a mighty race in the G2 Boyne Hurdle when he was 30 lbs wrong at the weights. The owners won this with Auroras Encore at a big price and could sneak into a place.

Milansbar appeals now that Bryony is confirmed. 50/1 NRNB

Milansbar could lose all chance even before the first fence, Joe. Needs to lead or at least with an open/clear view of the front; otherwise downs tools/gives up. Also don’t forget Bryony is not claiming in the Grand National. Milansbar victorious at Warwick off a mark of 134, with Bryony taking off her 5 lb allowance effectively just 129. Neil King’s horse now races off 145. With the same jockey this time unable to claim Milansbar is not just the 11 lbs worse off that the handicapper believes he deserves for Warwick, but effectively 16 lbs worse off.
