Arctic fire is a brilliant horse. Was second to faugheen in the best champion hurdle field of recent years, was going to hose up in the aintree hurdle only for the fall at the last, and won the county hurdle off top weight after 14 months on the sidelines. Wonder what the story is with him at the moment?
December 28, 2017 at 21:24 #1334595It was interesting to see the sectional report on the Christmas Hurdle from Simon Rowlands. Like a few posters above, as a Buveur D’Air fan I found the visual impression a bit meh. The New One had him off the bridle for a moment. Thankfully, Dr Rowlands says the early/mid-race pace was slow and it turned into a sprint. I feel comforted by that and think any Buveur D’Air fan should. He did quicken past and seal the deal quite readily in the end after all.
I really think he’s going to dick Faugheen if they both meet in March. Faugheen was a staying two-miler at the best of times and I find it hard to believe that 100% of his old ability is intact. His comeback win didn’t tell us much and, undoubtedly, tomorrow’s Ryanair Hurdle will be a similar farce. I think Buveur would have beaten him in a 5f race at the best of times – he’s the fastest hurdler in training to my mind.
December 28, 2017 at 22:25 #1334605I agree with the part about his hurdling. His efficiency over each hurdle is incredible. Very neat and tidy.
December 29, 2017 at 01:13 #1334620If you asked willie mullins who would win a 2m hurdles race faugheen or min i think hed laugh in your face, literally. Almost the same way rich ricci laughed off who was the better annie power or faugheen, he dismissed her as if he was talking about a 140 horse
If min was running in this, he would be well equipped of beating BVD as would AP
Obviously faugheen is sensitive, will he get there? Who knows
At the prices now BVD is by far the better bet than faugheen which i agree with you about though
Well said. People have always been upset about Faugheen price and knocked his achievements because of that. Imagine how upset they’ll become when the race will turn non-runner/NB and Faugheen gets slashed to odds on. In the last 2 years its been the case whether he gets there, not of winning it.
Hopefully this season he’ll get there and the question of whether he can win it can be answered and not in the style of his 2015 win when he came unprepared and Ruby made it a tactical mess but in a more serious manner as he’ll only have 1 champion to beat now, not 2. Btw, anyone insulting the runner-up of 2015 Arctic Fire needs a reminder that he won the County off top weight at this years festival, a feat not achieved since 1960. He was rated 169 same as BD currently. In the Irish CH 2016 he got pounced by Faugheen 15 lengths, a good thing to keep in mind when trying to trash him.
December 29, 2017 at 10:21 #1334651You couple of little buggers are going to be very upset when Buveur D’airs Turns out to be one of the best 2milers of all time. Triple champion hurdle winner incoming!
Ive said it before and I’ll say it again just because Faugheen was a decent champion hurdle winner and arctic fire was a decent horse too doesn’t mean that there can’t be a horse better in the future.
BD has done nothing wrong to suggest he can’t be as good as or even better than a peak Faugheen and we won’t even see a peak Faugheen in March.
Faugheen to be retired after this festival is around 1/2 at Ladbrokes
December 29, 2017 at 10:52 #1334655If Faugheen comes out today and proves he is back to his best then we have one hell of a race in March providing both get there fit and well
December 29, 2017 at 11:01 #1334658Yes Charlie! I’m just looking forwards to hearing Simon Holt commentating on it!!
Faugheen kicks on round the final bend but Geraghty has the move covered and still hasn’t asked him to go until just before final hurdle powers past Faugheen
December 29, 2017 at 11:44 #1334672Buveur Dair the sensible bet for me…we know he’s fit and well with no injury issues or nagging doubt…he’s slick over his hurdles and has a great turn of foot…
I hope the very best Faugheen turns up…I hope leading up to the festival they’re saying he’s never been as good…I hope he wins today by 20 lengths…no excuses when BD beats him then..
On the form lines there is between the two, even at Faugheens best I think there’s very little between the two…The New One a good yardstick, A’s is My Tent Or Yours…
December 29, 2017 at 12:05 #1334677Faugheen best is half a stone in front of BD.
I can’t remember Faugheen coming off the bridle in 2015 Christmas Hurdle to beat TNO by as many lengths as Ruby wanted? Two different races but fact remains BD needed to be shaken up and took him 1-2 furlongs to get the best of TNO. Faugheen on his reappearance timefigures alone is the fastest horse in training, imagine with couple of races under his belt and the 2 years rusting beginning to clear up what he’ll do to yet another champion? Faugheen age is BD’s only hope but he’s lightly raced and could keep this up for 1-2 more years if he remains injury free.
December 29, 2017 at 12:06 #1334678As I’ve said throughout this thread, Buveur D’Air is a great horse. He really is.
But if Faugheen turns up, he wins.
It’s as simple as that for me.
December 29, 2017 at 12:53 #1334687I love the enthusiasm Faugheen fans but all I can say is unlucky at the end of the day and hope you didn’t bet too much on him for the champion hurdle. Don’t want anyone to lose their house or anything.
BD has won a champion hurdle and we have no clue how much better he can be I think he could be 10 pounds better than last season. His jumping looks a lot better and he looks just all class.Goodbye Faugheen and happy retirement.
December 29, 2017 at 14:35 #1334710Feel sorry for Faugheen and the Horse racing fans as the battle with BD would have been amazing.
A lot of us predicted this could happen and it has and was always a risk with betting Faugheen.
Hope the horse is ok.
Would have been a decent runner up to BD
December 29, 2017 at 14:38 #1334714Your wishes came true Jasolong
December 29, 2017 at 14:38 #1334715Goon-dolonces, boys.
December 29, 2017 at 14:41 #1334720The sport has been robbed of a great head to head.
The best 2m hurdler we have seen since Istabraq will surely be retired.
A sad sight to see him end his career (you would assume) like that
December 29, 2017 at 14:41 #1334721Well I didn’t wish for Faugheen to retire. I just thought there’s a good chance he would. I would have loved to see Bd and Faugheen go at it because they both great champions and would been good for the sport.
Just seen it happen a lot over the years. They just don’t come back.
Unless you’re name is Sprinter Sacre. The greatest ever.
December 29, 2017 at 14:42 #1334722Looks the end of the road for the machine! Unless its a silly injury but youd think thats unlikely
Again your just making silly assumptions on BVD, none which is even remotely true YET, you think have this wrapped up 10 weeks out, i hope you green out right now as were speaking while the markets have him down at silly prices
Glad i greened out when i did!
