Really really strong looking entry for this…….
https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/11/cheltenham/2018-11-17/714436
Coneygree likely to be the headline horse, but there’s a few others in there, really catching the eye.
The Young Master and Cogry deserve their place at the head of the market on recent form, while Calett Mad, another well quoted, is surely going to pop up soon.
I can’t rule them out at all, but for now, these make the shortlist…..
Daklondike – Looked highly progressive last term, before flopping badly at Punchestown. If you can forgive him that, then he looks big for a yard that do well at this meeting 20’s
Vyta Du Roc – Ultra impressive last year, before succumbing to Colic. If back to his best, then a big player 11’s
Rock The Kasbah – Doesn’t always put it in, but I thought he was better than result last time. Not ideal that he’s on the same mark, but not in a rush to write him off 12’s
Sharp Response – Hammered for an impressive win at Carlisle last time, but I just thought he looked very progressive, and his jumping was pretty decent too. Interesting at 16’s
Perfect Candidate – Very flat last time, but always worthy of a second look around here, and that run should have blown away the cobwebs. I think he could be dangerous here, as he bids to win it back to back 20’s
Theatre Territory – If it wasn’t for her other entry, I’d be betting her right now. I think she’ll have a big season, and the price just looks wrong 20’s
Royal Vacation – Yard in flying form, and though he seems to have went backwards, just the type that might, just might, bounce back 25’s
Mysteree – Tough as old boots, and no way should he be the price he is. Has plenty of runs which give him a squeak here, and has went well when fresh before 33’s
Too many ifs and buts right now, and difficult race Ante-Post, but this is the early shortlist. I will play one of these, or maybe two before decs, but right now, a bit of a puzzle.
Sharp Response 16’s
Perfect Candidate 20’s
Theatre Territory 20’s
Mysteree 33’sNovember 12, 2018 at 19:59 #1380403I’m in total agreement about Sharp Response, VTC. Smith has an awful record with her horses at Cheltenham but this one can handle undulating courses and looks certain to win a decent prize this season. Several better known horses in the line up but most with something to prove.
SR is a half brother to Ballyoptic so could quite easily defy this mark.
November 13, 2018 at 16:58 #1380443I share those concerns about her record Mark, but I really did like that run at Carlisle, so a small Ante-Post play, and I’ll top up on the win if he’s actually declared.
Sharp Response 16’s EW
November 14, 2018 at 09:34 #1380467We know Nicholls preps his horses for specific valuable races in mind, and I think Romain De Senam is one of them. 7lb lower than last year, much better off with a few of these that were also in the race. Has had a wind op, and although the next two races haven’t been great they haven’t been devoid of promise either, but they do look like preps for this.
The horse has obviously had little issues, but looks like being laid out for this.
25/1 looks big to me, especially as the trainer really does have his horses ready to roll for the big pots on a Saturday.November 14, 2018 at 18:02 #1380484Agree, Jamie. Nicholls is brilliant at picking up prize money throughout the season with horses who aren’t considered top class or Saturday horses.
November 15, 2018 at 12:32 #1380518Cogry 10/1
Should have come on for the run last time and should go well again at a track he really likes and the ground should be spot on for him also.
November 16, 2018 at 14:06 #1380582I won more money on a horse in this race, than any other, ever. I’ve not backed Coneygree since, but I’ve backed him for tomorrow. A wind op, a tongue tie, and a mark of 160 first time up, is the time to get involved with him again I believe. If you look at this horses body of form, it’s clear to see something was wrong after his GC winning season. He broke himself in that race. He showed good form after, but it dwindled race by race when he made the track. Leading to two complete blow outs last season. All adds up maybe too his breathing to me, on top of his other ailments. I held off until I saw him go blue, but as soon as he did, I’ve been backing him at 16-1. Mainly too win, and a bit e/w.
He’ll pick this lot up and carry them off of 160 if they do have him back. I’m prepared to take a punt at that price, he owes me absolutely nothing at all. He has the heart of a lion, if his breathing is now sorted and the tongue tie helps him, he’ll win this.
Good luck all.
November 16, 2018 at 17:51 #1380609VIRGILIO and ROCK THE KASBAH for me. Decent prices and as I have said Hobbs horses could all be well handicapped after last year.
And Virgilio has ran in some very good races without looking like winning and this could be a drop in class for him.
Good Luck Guys
November 16, 2018 at 20:07 #1380625If the ground was soft, I’d be having three times as much on CG tomorrow. GS should be alright. He may bust right out and be retired, but that wind op might also just do the trick. If it did, this lot will not be able to live with his jumping, and the pressure he will apply. If the real Coneygree does turn up tomorrow, these handicappers will know they have been in a race that’s for sure. He’s only had 9 chase runs bless him, and he does not have too many miles on the clock. I think they love the horse too much to run him again this season, if they did not think they had him sorted. If they do, he’ll win this and I’ll be gutted I did not have more on!
November 16, 2018 at 21:13 #1380628Vicente at 9/1 for me. Ran a cracker last year and is now on a lower mark and he will have his ground.
November 16, 2018 at 21:31 #1380630Sharp Response @ 9/1 for me. Money has come. 11’s into 7’s.
November 17, 2018 at 03:41 #1380679Singlefarmpayment for me in this @ 6/1
November 17, 2018 at 08:29 #1380691SFP and Vincente for me, ew to 6 places.
November 17, 2018 at 10:05 #1380714Anything can win this.
Plumped for Vicente ew 5 places.
November 17, 2018 at 10:16 #1380723Singlefarmpayment (11/2) and Vicente (9/1) have proved to enjoy these races and both stables are in cracking form. Cogry (10/1) bumped into an on song trier last time and should also go close.
November 17, 2018 at 11:34 #1380734Daklondike (spelling?) and Perfect Candidate for me. Might have a small sentimental punt on Coneygree who I’m so glad to see out again…
November 17, 2018 at 12:34 #1380753Am going to forgive Doing Fine for the poor latest run. It was his first run of the season after all and maybe the visor will help. Based on previous form he’s well handicapped with a few of these and has conditions to suit. Took 20/1.
