friend of TRF Simon Rowlands on the visiting horses:
November 27, 2017 at 22:11 #1329129A really strong European contingent heading over this year which is good to see. The ante-post markets seem to heavily favour the local runners but I threw a couple of each-way bets on a couple of ours at big prices: Lightning Spear 40/1 (Mile) and The Tin Man 33/1 (Sprint).
November 28, 2017 at 02:41 #1329153I’ll try Lancaster Bomber in The Hong Kong Mile at 12’s Wit, no idea if he’s going to run, but he’ll do for me, and should be seen to better effect, running on his own merits.
November 28, 2017 at 14:31 #1329219The last European winner in this race is Firebreak in 2004. In 2013, Moonlight Cloud finished in sixth place and Sky Lantern finished in last place.
A local TV tipster always states that all HK top milers weigh well more than 1,000 pounds. For example, Able Friend weighs more than 1,200 pounds. That tipster suggest those weigh around 950 pounds cannot win this big race. Of course, you may argue Firebreak weighed around 950 pounds when winning the race in 2004.

If you are interested, HKJC will announce the body weight of the runners 2 days before meeting. You can check that in the racecard on their website.

HKJC published a media guide: http://campaign.hkjc.com/en/hkir/hkir-media-guide-eng-2017.pdf
Later this week, there should be a form guide for the runners in the website.
November 28, 2017 at 14:33 #1329222I hope he can break that trend Patrick, I don’t have many horses I follow on the flat, but he’s one of them. Fingers crossed.
November 29, 2017 at 16:27 #1329385HKJC today released the form guide for the 4 international races. PDF file can be downloaded in this link: http://campaigns.hkjc.com/hkir/en/racing-news/2017-longines-hong-kong-international-races-form-guide
December 4, 2017 at 15:46 #1330353Nassa who run well in last 2 races had a tendon injury and out of the race.
SCMP’s report on Nassa: http://www.scmp.com/sport/racing/article/2122679/tendon-injury-rules-tony-millards-nassa-out-hong-kong-cup
Kiseki who won Japanese St Leger last time out, is now being segregated from other horses as he is found to have a skin infection. Interestingly, he did a trackwork at Shatin on Monday morning. It is not sure that he can run in HK Vase. Originally, I think he and Talismanic are the 2 horses to beat.

December 9, 2017 at 22:37 #1331366I’m getting up at the early hour so must be off to bed soon but happy with who I’ve got running for me in the morning.
Just a few for the morning’s entertainment.
Vase: Chemical Charge 40/1 e/w
Mile: Lightning Spear 40/1 e/w & Lancaster Bomber 11/1 win
Sprint: The Tin Man 40/1 e/w NON-RUNNER
Cup: Neorealism 5/1 winDecember 10, 2017 at 07:11 #1331411half-time and results pretty much according to the ratings graphs on the racecard:
Vase: Highland Reel wins basically from the front, keeping enough in reserve to kick away when challenged at the close
Sprint: locally-trained Mr Stunning brings home a John Size 1-2
if this carries on, it points to:
– the Mile being between Helene Paragon, Beauty Only and Lancaster Bomber (value with Ryan on latter at 18), and
– the Cup between Werther, Poets Word, Deauville and Neorealism (value with Andrea on Poets Word at 18).

December 10, 2017 at 08:47 #1331416Getting a bit tired of watching top level foreign races being dominated by either the draw or having to be at the front.
3 of the 4 winners led all the way and even the Sprint winner was always very handy. If you can’t get into a very handy position you seem to have absolutely no chance.
Gutter of the morning was Chemical Charge finishing 4th after backing him each-way at 40/1 but I’m sure none of us begrudged Highland Reel going out on a high.
