The more time passes the more I’m liking Yanworth
Somebody on here made a pretty decent point about his race at the last festival with him being wide out and Yorkhill being in the plum position. One of Annie or Faugheen should get re-route and as good as they are will something with younger legs put it up to them. Yanworth will like the likely pace of the race and uphill finish. He’s been ticking along nicely in preparation and improved a lot visually for his first run.Blackbeard to conquer the World
January 12, 2017 at 22:27 #1281664Yanworth is one of those horses I cannot figure out and probably never will
Had the same problem with Silv Conti at the same stage of his career…sometimes I get horseblind…don’t know why
January 12, 2017 at 22:36 #1281665Coral’s brief attempt at laying Faugheen @ 11/4 did not last too long.
At the moment i think everything revolves around him at the moment.
It’s just pot luck trying to figure out this race while he is still in it IMO.
January 12, 2017 at 23:46 #1281678Paddy Power now going non runner no bet in the four championship races!!
Hope this helps …………….
January 12, 2017 at 23:53 #1281684Unrelated to our discussion L’Ami Serge has only beaten a total of 17 horses in his career in the UK, I know he’s mainly kept in small fields but quite a staggering statistic really. He’s certainly quite a highly strung horse who doesn’t like a big field or a battling finish, i’m inclined to agree with Nathan.
Another difference is that Big Buck’s clearly thrived at Cheltenham, only beaten 3 times there in his entire career. L’AS is yet to score there in 3 runs, when favourite and 2nd favourite twice. i certainly won’t be backing but wish you well.
Huh? You mean he’s only beaten 17 horses when he’s won a race in the UK, I think…and so what? Not exactly his fault. I’d rather he beat Killultagh Vic and Emerging Talent than a field of 20 donkeys.
Yeah he probably doesn’t like battling that much but who cares, neither did Binocular but it didn’t stop him galloping up that hill.
And yeah he’s been beaten there 3 times but not as if he finished 9th 8th 11th. Led the JLT until about 2 out, led the Relkeel til about 50 yards out, absolutely stuffed in the Supreme and did well to complete, let alone finish 4th. The form is very good.
January 13, 2017 at 11:25 #1281735Sorry Zarkava not buying it, the horse is a bottler-the 17 horse stat shows he’s been kept away from larger fields where he doesn’t like the hustle-I like my horse to prove it in big competive races.
January 13, 2017 at 11:42 #1281737Fair enough. Champion Hurdle field is rarely more than 11 these days, not a huge field.
January 13, 2017 at 11:54 #1281738That’s true actually. I’m inclined to side with Yanworth at the moment but won’t be backing anything ante post with the volatility of the markets…
January 13, 2017 at 18:31 #1281805From Hendo’s blog:
@GregThomas – Heard you say that you haven’t given up on MTOY. What chances of winning the Stan James Champion Hurdle if Faugheen and Annie Power don’t go?
He’s still in the mix and may even run if they both do too! He’s had a bit of a mid-winter break, like a few of mine, but we’ll get him going again soon. To be honest, I wouldn’t mind going straight to Cheltenham as he won’t need a run beforehand. Don’t forget I’ve also got L’AMI SERGEand BRAIN POWER plus PEACE AND CO is also on his way back – He’s going forward very well now and we’re making good progress with him!
January 13, 2017 at 18:52 #1281811Peace And Co last matched at 75 LOL
January 17, 2017 at 14:45 #1282491I must admit I’m amazed at the prices on Apples Jade for the champion hurdle.
The way she stayed on in the home straight when looking completely beat just screamed champion hurdle to me. And that was on a flat track.
Plus, we know she goes well in the spring.
Got on at 25’s ante-post before Xmas. Price still there and bet365 offer NRNB

Apples Jade looks every inch the stayer to me. Would be in the stayers hurdle were she mine.

Hope you’re both wrong, I’m on for the Mares Hurdle.

I wish you were right Tony, I backed her at 10/1, which seemed a good price to me, before
she ran at Down Royal. I thought she just wasn’t wound up enough, but Elliot decided after
the race that she wasn’t a Champion Hurdle horse. She drifted to 33s and I had another nibble.
I think she would do well in the CC, although 2m is short of what she needs. The reason I think
she would do well is the pace the CC would be run at, and the tough uphill finish. That being
said, I doubt she will head here, I think she will end up in the Mares Hurdle. I doubt she will
head to the Stayers, if she is scared off by Vroum Vroum Mag or Annie Power, if they head there,
then there is the slight chance she could come back to the CH if those at the head of the market
don’t trap. This is a difficult Cheltenham to fathom, there could be more than a few surprises
with engagements, and Willie is playing his usual cards close to the chest game. I’m living more
in hope than expectation about her showing up here, but what else can you doJanuary 17, 2017 at 17:04 #1282513I wouldn’t give up on the idea of Apple’s Jade turning up in a Champion Hurdle, particularly if the ground happened to be soft on day one. The form of those two runs which supposedly pointed to her step up don’t look that dire to me. When she was stepped up she was well positioned to win a slowly run race. It wasn’t a proper test of stamina. She has been entered in the Irish Champion. I think like a lot of connections they will be keeping a close eye on what happens with the market leaders.

What race is this you’re talking about?

I hope you’re right Stilvi, I thought last year she looked awesome, particularly
at Aintree. If she were to come that good again in the spring I think she could
hose up in the CH. I think Elliot put himself a bit behind the 8 ball when he
spouted, after the Down Royal race, that AJ wasn’t a CH horse, I think he was rash.
She gets 2m 4f well enough I think, I don’t see any evidence she’s screaming out
for 3m so I can’t see her heading to the Stayers. I think she’ll head for the Mares
hurdle, but if the CH was weakened at the head of the market, I do think they might
rethink. I’d love to see her take her chance in this, any horse that can blow a field
away the way she did at Aintree over 2m 1F, would have to have a major say in this. I
had all but given up hope of getting a run, but you’ve got me thinking again -
