Annie Power on the drift, she is out to 8/1 with Betfair but only 5/2 for the Mares hurdle. Faugheen out to 14/1 for the stayers hurdle
January 12, 2017 at 09:46 #1281554That tells a story. 8/1 for The Champion Hurdle and no contraction for the Mares implies there must be something wrong with her.
January 12, 2017 at 09:56 #1281556The heavens will need to open massively before the festival if L’Ami Serge were to win – he hasn’t looked all that interested of late either. I’m not that keen on horses reverting back to hurdles after a failed chase career…
January 12, 2017 at 10:11 #1281558L’Ami Serge
I agree, don’t fancy L’Ami Serge to place let alone win

It will be interesting to see if there is anything to it. It wouldn’t take much to move the exchange at this stage..

Like…Big Buck’s?
January 12, 2017 at 12:51 #1281572Annie Power drifting out further for both races on Betfair, now at 8.4/1 for champion hurdle and 3/1 for mares hurdle
Faugheen last priced matched for world hurdle was 47/1, in the lay column nobody wants to know. so looks like Champion Hurdle or nothingJanuary 12, 2017 at 13:06 #1281575If she is fit and well what would be the point of sending her down the Mares route? The CH is already looking weaker than when she won and Willie could send any one of VVM, Lets Dance, Limini or Augusta Kate to the mares races. She is a complete superstar.
January 12, 2017 at 13:14 #1281579Patrick Mullins said yesterday AP is ‘failing to spark’
Plenty time, I suppose, especially with Willie’s record of turning things around, but he must have almost a day by day schedule planned for the festival with a mark he wants each horse to hit in training. The longer it goes where that mark is missed, the tougher the task as the days run out.

Comments like that don’t set the alarm bells off but obviously not ideal. For all we know saying ‘AP is failing to spark’ might be an easier way to buy more times to try and get Faugheen right.
If they do follow last years prep with AP then they will need to get her to the mares hurdle in punchestown mid Feb – that is a month away so plenty of time for her to find that ‘spark’. If the race was next week then I would be very concerned but it’s not, so I’m not
January 12, 2017 at 14:51 #1281590Would a comment like that from Patrick Mullins move the exchange that much?

I was thinking of him as I finished my post, however he is an exception to this rule, as he was truly exceptional! I doubt the likes of Cole Harden or Saphir du Rheu could emulate his feat…
January 12, 2017 at 16:48 #1281607Cos they weren’t as good as him!
January 12, 2017 at 16:53 #1281608Neither is L’Ami Serge!
January 12, 2017 at 18:15 #1281616L’Ami Serge is the ideal lay in running sort
will hack canter all over the field but reminds me of Harchibald in that I don’t think he’ll find anything remotely powerful enough to win a battle up that hill.
Just my humble opinion Zark, I wish you well with him.
What’s it Muhhammed once said ‘you can lead L’Ami Serge to the final furlong, but you can’t make him run up it’ something like that…..Blackbeard to conquer the World
January 12, 2017 at 18:55 #1281624Neither is L’Ami Serge!
We don’t enough information to answer that unequivocally. Big Buck’s was only rated 5lbs higher over fences, and he had way more runs than L’Ami Serge has.

January 12, 2017 at 20:28 #1281640Unrelated to our discussion L’Ami Serge has only beaten a total of 17 horses in his career in the UK, I know he’s mainly kept in small fields but quite a staggering statistic really. He’s certainly quite a highly strung horse who doesn’t like a big field or a battling finish, i’m inclined to agree with Nathan.
Another difference is that Big Buck’s clearly thrived at Cheltenham, only beaten 3 times there in his entire career. L’AS is yet to score there in 3 runs, when favourite and 2nd favourite twice. i certainly won’t be backing but wish you well.
