Buveur D’Air will scorch home in the Champion Hurdle. Different level to the rest of them.
Ahem!
Well done
March 14, 2017 at 15:55 #1291940Well done Buv D’Air supporters. Fairly easy in the end
March 14, 2017 at 15:56 #1291941Thank you.
It’s last years Supreme novices form. That race was electric.

Nice Tipping IB. I just couldn’t take anything from his last run against poor opponents. Mind you, I nicked 3/1 on him in that race and he was sitting at the same odds for today’s race at the same time.
I don’t think that was a great renewal but he outclassed them today.
After Yanworth’s last win I said on another forum that he had no chance of lifting the Champion Hurdle and I turned down the 7/1 available with Bet Victor, 2/1 today was abysmal value.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 14, 2017 at 16:02 #1291943Steve agreed re Yanworth. He is too slow to win a Champion Hurdle and his jumping isn’t sharp or slick enough. I can understand why they went for the Champion but the Stayers would be the better race for him. 2/1 was ridiculous.
March 14, 2017 at 16:06 #1291945Times suggest ground conditions were much sounder than the official description at both Cheltenham – when Buveur D’Air was given plenty to do behind Altior and Min – perhaps should’ve been second… and Aintree. Where beat Petit Mouchoir a head – clear of the rest. Am kicking myself for not making Buveur D’Air much more than a saver. Had him down as a fair 9/2 shot and 11/2 was freely available. Still, the place only My Tent’ bet got me back quite a bit of what was lost on earlier races.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2017 at 16:09 #1291947My Nap of the festival Brain Power managed to beat just Cyrus Darius! ;) haha I think I will never post on this forum to stop misleading people ;) My second best bet Charli Parcs will probably finish last…

Yeah you are right! At least I was right about Yanworth, horse I feared the most won, but I expected BD to be second to BP…Well, never mind, next time I will have more luck for sure.
March 14, 2017 at 17:26 #1291982Groundhog day for The New One, outpaced as he always is at a critical point, staying on late. Could well have won the Stayer’s and the obsessed Twister a perfect example of “If you keep doing the same thing you keep getting what you always got”
March 14, 2017 at 17:28 #1291983As I’ve said before the supreme last year was crazy form and it proved today. So disappointed I got locked into Yanworth though :(
Buvair dair 1st in champion
Petit mouchoir 3rd in champion
Altior 1st in arkle
Charbel most likely would of been 2nd but for the fall.Unbelievable form from the supreme- what does it say about tombstone for tomorrow ???
March 14, 2017 at 18:10 #1291997Yanworth was rubbish.
March 14, 2017 at 22:28 #1292097I don’t think this was such a bad renewal. Since the winner did not need the sex allowance enjoyed by Annie Power last year and beat some solid 160s horses (including the revived MTOY), I think there’s every reason to believe he’s an above-average winner.
I’d certainly take Buveur D’Air in a fantasy Champion Hurdle against Sublimity, Jezki, Rock On Ruby, Punjabi, Annie Power, Brave Inca, Hardy Eustace or Rooster Booster. Faugheen, Hurricane Fly, Istabraq and a peak Binocular would all beat him though.
The impressive thing was the way he travelled and quickened off a fairly steady pace. He even made an awful mistake when the sprint was beginning, but didn’t even come off the bridle and just continued his progress. It’s a mighty performance that shouldn’t be underestimated no matter what preconceptions you had before the race. Buveur D’Air still has so much to work on and his jockey sent him to the front much too soon, so I think he could improve at least 7-8lbs from this performance next year.
Well done to MTOY backers – the horse matched last year’s run and is becoming a bit of a standing dish in this race.
Petit Mouchoir was ironed out, but might still make hay in a weak Irish scene with Faugheen and Annie Power on the sidelines. Footpad ran really well considering the race wasn’t run to suit him and would be one for serious consideration in the Aintree Hurdle if allowed to take his chance.
Yanworth didn’t appeal as an obvious Champion Hurdle type and has a bit to prove now. Reports suggest he is a hard horse to keep sound so there might be more to this defeat than meets the eye. Chasing is the obvious route for a horse with plenty of size, but you wouldn’t want to back him all-in ante-post if he is a bit fragile.
Brain Power reportedly lost a shoe, but I don’t think that could be blamed for a heavy defeat. It was probably a combination of things like failure to act at the track, running too keen after a break (damnit Nicky!) and jumping subtly right-handed throughout. He’s still an interesting horse and shouldn’t be written off. He’ll have a big shout in the Christmas Hurdle if still on the scene next year. Chasing options are also open for him.
