Thought I’d have a quick look at this, even though there’s the small matter of Cheltenham to contend with first.
My main bet so far has been on Mad Brian at 20’s. He looked a staying chaser to keep on side, when he ran a cracker to finish second in The 2013 Thyestes, before running with a lot of credit against very decent opposition in The Topaz at Leapordstown a few weeks later. He then took in a chase at Navan a few weeks later, and unseated at the last when 7, 8 lengths clear. He then had a lengthy spell on the sidelines and didn’t return until this year. He didn’t strike a blow in his comeback run over hurdles, but last time was a lot more encouraging. Although he fell at the last when beat, he showed an awful lot more, and he was bang there until close home. Despite those 2 mishaps I’ve mentioned, I don’t necessarily think of him as a bad jumper, and I’ve had a go at the 20’s
Mad Brian was preferred to Upswing & Standing Ovation at 25’s, though I had 2 very small bets on them. I couldn’t possibly have had a proper punt on them, with their multiple Cheltenham entries, though the Pipe trained Standing Ovation does stand his ground here. Pipe farmed this race for 4 years, and as he’s got a strong entry, that was enough for me to back off of Standing Ovation in the meantime.
I’ll have a proper look at the race on Friday Night, if I’m still in one piece

With a long week ahead, happy with my 20’s on Mad Brian, and if Standing Ovation does go, I’ll have to take it on the chin, when that 25’s will be long gone.

March 14, 2016 at 19:43 #1237435Am on Milansbar at 10/1 and Godsmejudge at 25/1 . Only small bets cos I haven’t had a deep study yet cos there is a little meeting just about to start that has taken precedence!!
Good Luck
March 14, 2016 at 21:21 #1237454No rain forecast for the week so ground should dry out to something decent.
I’ve backed Sizing Coal at 16s. He was a tad unlucky in the Irish National last season when he got hampered and shuffled back at a crucial stage. Nothing finished better than him that day and he would have been 2nd in another stride.
He’s by Presenting so hoping better ground will see him in a good light. Only 5 chases in his lifetime so hoping he is still unexposed. The stable is in terrific form and he had only one race this season (last month) so should be nice and fresh.
March 18, 2016 at 19:35 #1238815I have now backed Courttown Oscar and Golden Cheiftain both at 20’s.
March 18, 2016 at 23:05 #1238864I’ve just backed Courltown Oscar but only because I haven’t had time to look at the race and the S.O. knows his jockeys dad so we follow him.
March 19, 2016 at 10:41 #1238967Managed to get the last 2 winners of this but can’t see lightning strike a third time
Cogry for me. GL everyone
March 19, 2016 at 13:18 #1238989I’m with Raymo, I think GOLDEN CHIEFTAN has every chance of taking this.
From winning over 3m3f at Fontwell last November, he has always looked like he could
win a marathon, and hasn’t run a bad race since. He won well over 3m2f at Wincanton in
January, and followed that up in February when he looked to have the race sewn up when
falling 3 out.Still plenty of 20s about, or an extra 5th place with Skybet at 18/1. That will do for me.
Well done Bobby Bluebell taking 16s for Sizing Coal, he is the biggest worry to me, but at
5/1, like the other Bobby, I feel I’ve missed the boat there. If he drifts before the race
I’d have a few quid on him to cover my bet.March 19, 2016 at 16:46 #1239012I’m with Raymo, I think GOLDEN CHIEFTAN has every chance of taking this.

March 19, 2016 at 17:11 #1239016Sizing coal looked an ok each way bet at 16s but whoever was backing it at single figure prices into 5/1 needs their heads examined. It only stayed on past beaten horses in the Irish grand national and a bad Irish grand national at that. To back a horse at single figure prices over 4miles in a big field is madness.
March 19, 2016 at 17:15 #1239017It’s amazing how you can be flying high one moment and then it gets
turned on it’s head.Dex, I know exactly how you feel, and how Raymo will feel too. I was
on a very good return, fueled by a good day yesterday. I took the 18/1
5 places with Sky and then a bit before the off I had a good bit in my
Paddy Power account so I hit him again at 16/1. I should be used to it
by now, that’s racing for you, but you sit with that feeling of utter
disbelief for a few minutes
Anyway, I’m over it now, it’s just a loser so onwards and upwards, or
I’m trying to tell myself that anyway
March 19, 2016 at 19:33 #1239037Have been out all day cos it is Mrsraymo’s birthday and just got back and watched the racing.
ABSOLUTELY GUTTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had five bets today in three races ….
The three in this which you know about and Might Bite at Kempton and then Golden Cheiftain Might Bite and Harry Parri Morgan in each way doubles and trebles!!
Sob story I know but that fall has cost me bigtime!! 7/1 winner 10/1 winner and FALLER!!!
March 19, 2016 at 21:55 #1239052I was jumping along with him turning for home. The 20’s i got in the morning was looking very generous indeed!
Cue Card then this. I was rather upset to say the least. Can’t imagine how the trainer must have felt! A torrid 24 hours indeed…
