Thanks VTC , our postings crossed just now
December 26, 2016 at 16:00 #1278567It was pretty darned impressive!! Even from behind the sofa!!!
Well done the believers!!
December 26, 2016 at 16:21 #1278578Excellent performance. Probably worth a ten length win. The only worry I’d have is the proximity of Conti, josses hill and Tea for Two to cue card. Ignoring thistlecrack, if cue card had run to his rating he should have been ten lengths clear of the rest of those. Maybe trying to stay with thistlecrack meant he got tired more quickly than the others. Still a 180 performance by thistlecrack which is very rare
December 26, 2016 at 16:43 #1278579Cue Card almost certainly wants soft ground these days to slow the others. Trouble is, I suspect Thistlecrack prefers cut as well and would have won that by even farther today on normal KG going
December 26, 2016 at 17:36 #1278583Well done Joe, Gord and all Thistlecrack backers.
Shame Cue Card didn’t show his best – a 3 3/4 lengths beating of Tea For Two isn’t – on the face of it – outstanding form. However, style of how Thistlecrack went through the race, then took it steady in to the second last and particularly the last, very little doubt in my mind Thistlecrack would’ve beaten even a spot on Cue Card. Younger horse can only improve further. Feel very lucky to be watching what I suspect is the best staying chaser since Arkle.
Value Is EverythingDecember 26, 2016 at 18:40 #1278606Any word on Paul Nichols’ reaction to Conti’s run? Thought he ran a screamer and shaped like a horse after much further; just outpaced turning for home before staying on dourly after the last. What comes next? Another crack at the National on better ground and perhaps less weight? Another go at the Gold Cup? A Stayers Hurdle entry? Or skip Cheltenham again and go for the Bowl?
December 26, 2016 at 19:01 #1278611Thanks, Mark.
Just watched it again and to see any horse, let alone a novice, turn into the straight for the last time in the KG with his jock sitting still, pulling away from a hard-ridden Cue Card is almost beyond belief.
He’s drawing 7 or 8 clear approaching the last and wins on the bridle.
Ridden out, Lord knows how far clear he’d have come. Very surprised to still see him odds against for the GC after the race. There is nothing to touch him at the moment and he will be even better come Gold Cup day.
December 26, 2016 at 19:41 #1278620Yep, only worry was the jumping & fenced well. How to rate the race I wonder?
Thistlecrack – still think he has the potential to do 193. This was comfortable, TomScu never remotely had occasion to remember he carried a whip & horse was eased. Strictly though, about 176.
Cue Card – clearly below expected 178. A fair bit more ineffective at trip & going than I expected & probably affected by being seen off by winner before the straight, so 169.
Silviniaco Conti – expected 168 at conditions, ran on again to do…168!
Tea For Two – expected 166. Good effort, 168.
Josses Hill – expected 165. Sweaty & probably better at shorter, no disgrace though, 164.
December 26, 2016 at 19:45 #1278623Anyone who knows me from posting on here knows I dont celebrate lightly…My bum squeaked at the 2nd when he took off far too early and Silvianico hassled him but from then on he popped them lovely and I cheered him home,if this fellow doesn’t win the Gold cup now then the likes of me Joe and Bob know SFA about horses and we all know thats not true..Cheers chaps am pissed!
December 26, 2016 at 20:17 #1278627What a performance that was!
Well done to those at big prices. Very happy to have backed Thistlecrack and of course my 7/2 GC looks big now.
Also played the king George and GC double at 5s when he was confirmed to run. Unfortunately I wish it was for more.
It was just the manner of victory. Totally destroyed them all. Easily.
A truly staggering performance from a worldie of a horse.
I can see him NEVER being beaten again now.

Pleased for you TAPK!
December 26, 2016 at 20:39 #1278630Distance doesn’t portray the gulf in class. Well done winner backers. I hope this fella gets there in March. He’s the type of horse who will give other horses ‘alternative targets’. Cue Card would have easily won without his stablemate.
December 26, 2016 at 23:20 #1278644Not sure on some of those ratings GoldenMiller??
Thistlecrack was impressive and did it nicely but was it as impressive as many people are making out?
Cue Card was a major disappointment but for me there was plenty of question marks beforehand…his form on right hand courses over jumps now reading 3 wins from 11 starts…the better ground as that was one of the excuses for his below par effort in the Charlie Hall…and with the subsequent news on Coneygree what was the worth of his win at Haydock?
Silviniaco Conti’s overall form over the last two seasons has been dreadful…his closeness at the end after he’d dropped off and looked well beaten leaves a question mark for me…
Time of the race also leaves me wondering…I’m no expert on race times, sectionals etc…but the 131 rated winner of the Feltham winning in a similar time leaves me wondering too…especially as he would have been well beaten but for fallers…
Would still wonder how his jumping would hold up if something could serve it up longer than SC could for today, especially at Cheltenham which will be a tougher test…
That said, he’s improving with every run…has won on different courses, different goings, no worries there…only problem is the two horses I think are capable of lowering his colours at Cheltenham are both currently on the sidelines and both probably a good bet not to get to the start of the GC which leaves him very much the one to beat now!
December 26, 2016 at 23:50 #1278652Yanworth 13/2
Thistle crack 8/1
Can’t believe it!December 27, 2016 at 00:16 #1278654Thanks N
December 27, 2016 at 00:17 #1278655Thought you might be Gord lol
December 27, 2016 at 00:18 #1278656Not sure what they do with him now Peter, but not inconceivable that he can win again. I wouldn’t want to see him go for The National again though.
