Still plenty standing after the 5 day decs, and I hope most stand their ground, as it could be a cracker.

Hard to second guess what the best of the Giggs will be at this stage of the season, but I’ll not be surprised if Wounded Warrior runs well at the 16’s, and he could be a real dark horse this season. His stablemate Monksland could also surprise, and he looks big as well at 14’s, he certainly looked in good heart last time.
I’ve taken a chance with O’Faolains Boy though at 33’s, even though I don’t see him as a certain starter. He’s my main fancy for The Hennessy, and I suppose a big run here might not help his chances in that, but the trainer is in good form, and I do like this horse. I thought he ran a cracker at Cheltenham, when the stable was under a cloud, and if he can’t win at Newbury, then at 33’s, this would be a nice consolation.
November 3, 2016 at 11:25 #1270301I would like to see SC win this but can’t have him at that price as Nicholls says he needs a run nowadays. I presume the racecourse gallop went ahead the other day, which may help.
I backed O’FB for the National only for them to pull him out last minute, so if he does turn up I could side with you Bobby. Sorry

I have heard Cooper has ruled himself out of this weekend so will be interesting to see the jockey bookings for the Gigg horses. I’m guessing Ruby will be on (and falling off
) Valseur Lido with no Mullins runner in the field.November 3, 2016 at 12:16 #1270305I’ll be interested to see how Don Poli is ridden. Might even take a chance on him. He’s been branded an out and out stayer but the horse has some speed. He won the Martin Pipe in 2014 having been ‘flat out for the first mile and a half’. I just wonder if switching him off has been doing him no favours. Is that the best tactic with a lazy horse?
I’d love to see him rousted along from the outset.
November 3, 2016 at 15:17 #1270328I’ve backed valseur lido at 5/1. This horse needs a trip and think he is over priced for the gold cup at 25/1. There are so many many questions marks with market leaders
November 3, 2016 at 19:07 #1270356VALSEUR LIDO 4/1 for me and on him for gold cup to.
November 3, 2016 at 19:10 #1270357Conti’s price is madness for this. A horse on the decline 2/1 favourite for a grade one against young horses on the up is not something I’d be interested in. As previously said valseur lido looks the one while if O Faolins boy comes over he could prove a good each way bet, considering that Curtis is in good form
November 3, 2016 at 23:19 #1270388Have taken the 14/1 about Monksland e/w.
November 4, 2016 at 11:28 #1270500Just did the same myself Tommy, with O’Faolains Boy, as expected, not making the trip. I’m very surprised the 14’s held.
Final field.
Don Poli
Lord Scoundrel
Monksland
Sadlers Risk
Silviniaco Conti
The Last Samuri
Valseur LidoNovember 4, 2016 at 17:38 #1270570My favourite horse The Last Samuri at 15/2
Heart over head in honesty.
I’d love him to come back and win fr me again after backing him nearly every race last season he was entered.

If it wasn’t for Don Poli’s main target seemingly being the Grand National, I’d agree with an attacking ride suiting. However, in the back of my mind is whether they’ll want him racing quicker through his races when Aintree is on the cards.
Looking at the principles record fresh, Don Poli’s got a pretty good record – as has Valseur Lido and The Last Samuri. Using sportinglife.com’s 60+ Days break stats shows Silviniaco Conti has not run to form in his last four trys after a break.
Bit difficult to know if other trainers will get as much out of the Gigginstown ex-Mullins duo. However, with Silviniaco also 10 going on 11 got to be against him at the prices. Am surprised he’s the Timeform “1” of their 1-2-3.
My 100% Book:
VALSEUR LIDO 9/4, Silviniaco Conti 4/1, Don Poli 4/1, THE LAST SAMURI 6/1, Monksland 13/1, Saddlers Risk 18/1, Lord Scoundrel 50/1.I’ve backed Valseur Lido @ 11/4 and The Last Samuri 15/2, might decide in-running whether to save on Don Poli, depending on how he’s ridden early-on.

At the prices, my head says The Last Samuri, MOM.
Value Is EverythingNovember 5, 2016 at 09:55 #1270745Valseur Lido is the bet for me with Ruby on his back. Rode him twice before, both grade ones, the first in a novice chase win at the Punchestown 2015 festival and then in the Irish Hennessey when falling at the last when looking like he was coming through to score smoothly.
Some solid runs in second behind Vautour and Djakadam last year also over trips short of his best in the John Durkan and Ryanair.
November 5, 2016 at 10:36 #1270766I have a small interest in The Last Samuri at 8-1
November 5, 2016 at 11:38 #1270787Bet Don Poli here @ 9/2 for a small interest. I thought he would be close to favourite.
November 5, 2016 at 14:52 #1270857Don poli another example of an Elliot plot job. Don’t be surprised to see him in the national off a mark of about 156 and appear to be a bit fitter than today. Elliot getting more top horses is not good for racing, he will just run them below their best to get handicap marks.
November 5, 2016 at 14:53 #1270858Hmmm so much for that theory with the Don. Looks like the horse has simply gone backwards; not as though he wasn’t fancied – 5s into 3s.
Willie must be having a quiet chuckle at Elliott’s ‘record’ in the past few days.
November 5, 2016 at 15:49 #1270873Iplodon lives up to his name today.
