You’re welcome Mark, you should be honoured, I’m pretty sure it’s the first time I’ve ever tweeted without it being a retweet or a reply, and even then, my grand total is 8 tweets in 4 years

Yeah, just have to wait and see with Cause of Causes, hopefully he’ll win at Cheltenham, and be the top rated of those on 10-01.
February 20, 2016 at 18:14 #1234573First time I’ve watched Onenightinvienna and his fencing reminds me of Black Hercules; he might be a touch more athletic though not much and I doubt he’ll get round in the National.
Silv Conti has put himself bang in the picture. Has the right build and accurate jumping style and stamina. Will be adding him to my list. Not quite sure Bishops Road jumps well enough.
February 21, 2016 at 10:00 #1234642Off 163 in the GN he is definitely on my shortlist. My only slight concern is whether he will get the trip. But horses do seem so stay further as they age, the ground should be better and he seems to enjoy Aintree. One of the best jumpers of a fence I have seen and glad that they have seemed to go off the idea of running in the WH.
February 24, 2016 at 17:20 #1235046Saint Are adds his name to my current bets after todays win. The 33’s may be gone, but I’ll settle for 25s!

March 5, 2016 at 14:00 #1236325Lord Windermere has been scratched.
March 5, 2016 at 21:48 #1236385I am very keen on Many Clouds winning it again, but I must say The Last Samuri seems to have all the attributes you’d wish for in a Grand National runner. Jumps, stays, genuine, consistent, well handicapped and improving.
Value Is EverythingMarch 5, 2016 at 22:09 #1236387I tend to agree with Mick Fitzgerald on The Last Samurai in that the horse spends a lot of time in the air and I did actually say to MRS Raymo during the race that this was so.
IMO this horse will not be suited to the national fences!!

That means he’d be more suited by Grand National fences than normal fences in my book.
The fact he can jump higher is an advantage. Horses may not fall as often these days, but going through the top of National fences take more energy out of a horse imo.Value Is EverythingMarch 6, 2016 at 09:27 #1236405The one I liked about the 3.45 at Doncaster, yesterday, was The Druid’s Nephew. Perhaps on ground too soft but the way he came prominently on the scene impressed me (a little bit
)You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.March 6, 2016 at 15:25 #1236434The one I liked about the 3.45 at Doncaster, yesterday, was The Druid’s Nephew. Perhaps on ground too soft but the way he came prominently on the scene impressed me (a little bit
)I agree The Druids Nephew’s run was very encouraging too. Don’t quite understand this thing about him being better on good ground though. To my mind TDN’s form suggests he’s just as effective on soft, even very soft. Was he much below form yesterday? Doubt it myself. And has 10 lengths to make up on The Last Samuri who’s improving all the time – and they meet at Aintree on identical terms.
Value Is EverythingMarch 6, 2016 at 16:18 #1236447For me TDN’s jumping will still be the issue – he seems rather flat over some of his fences (similar to Monbeg Dude) and that doesn’t leave much room for error, whilst Aintree fences are a shadow of their former self, horses still need to arch their back more to make a proper shape over them. I remember immediately after his Cheltenham win, Geraghty was asked about Aintree and he wasn’t at all confident that his jumping would be good enough over the bigger fences.
I like the winner as the further he went the better he looked and jumped – he was getting 6lbs from TDN and will be in receipt of the same come the National, the better ground thing re TDN is probably in respect of his festival win last year and how well he was travelling in the National before he fell (both runs being on officially good to soft ground).
I think better ground would help most horses in the jumping department but TLS also has plenty of form on good to soft so that wouldn’t be an issue – unless he takes a complete dislike to the course/fences or patently fails to stay the trip, I just don’t see the placings being reversed from Doncaster.
March 6, 2016 at 17:08 #1236452Just watched the 4.40 from Naas where Goonyella and Gallant Oscar are heading to Aintree

Goonyella lost his way in the midway part of the race, and needed lots of encouragement but rallied to battle back against stable companion [also same ownership companion] Venitien De Mai.
Gallant Oscar was waited with and made eyecatching moves towards the leaders. He finished in fifth.

Don't mess with mister in between.March 6, 2016 at 17:15 #1236454The Last Samuri is relatively small and I think he needs to take his fences quite steeply and will therefore spend more time off the ground than most of his opponents.
I wouldn’t be worried about him getting over the Aintree fences but landing steeply might be the problem.
He unseated 2 out when ridden to challenge at Kelso in February of last year but I never felt he looked a dodgy jumper despite being awkward at a few yesterday.
Staying seems his game and I would expect him to improve for the stamina test of Aintree. He seems like a horse who could be coming to take it up approaching the elbow if he can negotiate the obstacles safely.
Probably short enough now but I’m on him at 33/1 and well happy with where I stand on the race, having backed Many Clouds at 25/1 last August as well.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 6, 2016 at 17:26 #1236457Last Samuri…
…good fencer :)
March 6, 2016 at 20:45 #1236476What I am saying regarding The Last Samurai’s jumping is he is not economical and round Aintree that will take its toll!!
It is only my opinion and that is what it is all about opinions.
He won’t be carrying any of my money.
