Had some good days in The Plate, while success in The Hurdle continues to evade me.
Seems a long way back already, but after his excellent return in a Handicap Hurdle at The Punchestown Festival, I started throwing a few quid the way of Shanpallas at 28’s and 33’s, and after another couple of spins over timber, I’m happy to stick with him. He ran well in it last year, and had no luck in running, but still managed to nab 5th. Doubt, even with a smooth passage, he’d have got to the winner that day, Shanahans Turn, who was mighty impressive, but I remain hopeful, especially as he’s been popular for this the last couple of weeks.
Naturally with a race like this, there are danger, plots etc lurking everywhere, and I’ll probably have a proper look at the race come the final decs, and no doubt have a couple of back ups, with Junction Fourteen, Sir Valentino & Bright New Dawn all catching the eye.
The Hurdle looks way trappier, and with that in mind, it may make sense, Ante-Post at least, to side with The Harrington runner, Modem. More than capable of landing this, and I’d be disappointed if he didn’t face the starter. I’m happy to risk him each with a few quid at 33’s each way.
As I said, a very trappy affair, and although wary of literally the whole field, the favourite Superb Story looks rock solid, and I like the idea of Chatam House Rule, McKinley, Silver Concorde, Desoto County, and Princely Conn.
This race is a tough tough nut to crack.
For the timebeing at least, Shanpallas at 28’s & 33’s for The Plate, and 33’s each way, Modem for me in The Hurdle. It’s a fairly big bet on Shanpallas, as the current odds are just too big to ignore.
GL to those having a go, especially at this stage.
July 19, 2016 at 16:19 #1256620Bob a bit dissapointed with your opening post i expected 1000 words on both races we got high standands on here Bob my old china

And as you know we spoke about these races in your thread last month MODEM 20S in hurdle with SADLERS RISK at 25 in plate
July 19, 2016 at 23:14 #1256651be interested in peoples opinions on the plate but I think Road to Riches is an absolute standout bet at 8/1….should belt off in front avoiding the 6/7 hard luck stories there will inevitably be…….lookS like (fingers crossed) that ground will be perfect for him albeit i accept the weather in Galway could change the ground in a day…..should jump for fun, is a previous winner of the race and does not look handicapped out of it to my eye…..some bookies will likely go 5 places too….GET ON!!!!!!
July 20, 2016 at 18:57 #1256697Getting lazy Darren, I couldn’t be bothered
Gave him a good look Hardy, and as you say, he’s not handicapped out of it all. Impossible to rule out, so best of luck with him.
July 20, 2016 at 19:26 #1256700I have backed a couple in the Hurdle ANCIENT SANDS and TIME FOR MABEL both 16/1 and their form ties in together.
I think Time For Mabel wants good ground and seems to have improved for it and Kiely has a good record here and his hurdlers are in fabulous form so far this season!!
July 20, 2016 at 20:58 #1256716Thanks VTC….you must be very happy with Shanpallas at 28’s and 33’s…..he’s a far cry from that now…..hopefully Mark Walsh picks him and I’ve not doubt he’ll go off 7/2 or 3’s!!!This is one of my favourite races of the summer although I haven’t backed the winner since Oslot back in 2008
July 20, 2016 at 23:47 #1256749Yeah, very happy Hardy, already laid at the 6’s, and a decent profit on the race already. Love this race too, and easily my favourite of the summer. God, Oslot, that takes me back.
As much as the hurdle has been tough for me, this has been a much better race. Loads placed, including Wise Old Owl at huge odds Ante-Post a few years back, but 2013 was the highlight. Had Carlingford Lough Ante-Post at decent odds, he was quite short on the day when he won, and also Quantitativeeasing at 33’s ew, with the forecast as well……….that was a good day. I’d be fairly happy with a repeat of that………….but unlikely I know.
July 21, 2016 at 18:41 #1256784No Shanpallas
July 22, 2016 at 02:04 #1256812That’s a complete sickener Bobby, he looked nailed on for a place at least, but I see that you got a terrific lay in. Well done

It’s good to see some decent jumps racing back, and although it was my intention
to hold off till the start of the week, to see who stood their ground, couldn’t
resist taking a chance on CARRIGANOG at 16s. His stable mate
King Leon, who reoposes here, got the better of him at Ballinrobe in May but
Carriganog is better off now by 9lbs for a 1 1/2L beating. He was well beaten by Tulsa Jack, giving him 13lbs, last time out in the Midlands
National, that’s pretty decent form as I think a lot of Tulsa Jack, who had me pulling
my hair out when he fell 2 out at the Punchestown Festival when I thought he was in with
a shout.July 22, 2016 at 17:17 #1256848One of my favourite lays ever that one Graham, can’t lose on the race now, and nice to be ahead before the off, but I’d genuinely be happier if he had went for it of course.
July 25, 2016 at 09:03 #1257425First post in a while and it’s a brief one, but Renneti looks fair value at 10/1 in the big amateur handicap this evening.
July 25, 2016 at 09:19 #1257434Welcome to TRF thehorsesmouth, always good to see new blood on here.
July 26, 2016 at 18:58 #1257637Has Home Farm got any supporters left? Admittedly, it is not his fault that he has been consistently overfaced but so many woeful performances must have tried everyone’s patience.
Is Daryl Jacob injured? If not, I can’t really see the logic in putting up the only jockey to have lost on him over fences. Personally, I just steer clear of Coleman on anything. The rain will probably have scuppered what chance he had in any case.
July 26, 2016 at 20:43 #1257659Just been looking at the Plate and Bright New Dawn stands out for me at 25s…but I’ll probably keep my brass in my pocket. I’ll probably put him in a Naps comp I’m doing and if he comes in I’ll have a decent chance of winning.

To answer my own question he obviously isn’t injured because he rode a winner tonight. The story is he couldn’t ride Junction Fourteen because the Munir team wanted him for a £7,500 event at Perth tomorrow. Nothing like keeping your retained jockey happy.
July 27, 2016 at 11:31 #1257747First Lieutenant went up a whopping 13 lbs after coming second in the Lexus. He has dropped back to the same mark as when third in the Hennessy to Smad Place. If back to that form he could have a decent E/W chance at 33’s
July 27, 2016 at 11:53 #1257753SHANTOU FLYER 14/1 for me now it is has good form at Galway good jumper as well trip be perfect for him.
