8 left in this……
A very definite “no bet” race for me, but I did think Petit Mouchoir was very big at 8’s before the 5 day stage, while Hidden Cyclone, who I didn’t expect to stand his ground, makes some each way appeal at 14’s, with the 3 places, and 20’s with the 2.
November 23, 2016 at 19:21 #1273965I hung off having a bet as I expected one or other of the Gordon Elliot horses
to be withdrawn. They both still stand their ground today, although maybe that’s got
as much to do with Faugheen running in the Hatton’s Grace. I agree Bobby that Petit
Mouchoir was good value e/w at 8s before the 5 day stage, but I can’t quite work
out why he is ahead of APPLES JADE in the betting. Admittedly AJ
was a bit disappointing last time out, but she still finished in front of PM, and
is now 5lbs better in. Despite what Gordon Elliot said, I’m not sure his comments
after the race weren’t face saving, I think he had left her short going into it.
I think, or hope, she will show herself to be the impressive horse that turned up
at Aintree. If she is near that level, and good horse as Sceau Royal is, I don’t
think he can give her 7lbs. I think 4/1 is a good bet

All perfectly logical but why is Cooper jocked up on Petit Mouchoir? He wouldn’t have just given up the ride on the horse he would have been expecting to ride in a Champion Hurdle.
I fear I have been hitting my head against a brick wall and they will only have the one runner. Hope I am wrong.
November 23, 2016 at 23:17 #1273991You could be right Stilvi, but I hope they both run. I think Gordon Elliot has
it in his head that Apples Jade isn’t fast enough. “She did jump well, she just
looked slow”. What I don’t get is that a horse that put up arguably the most
impressive performance all year over 17f, at Aintree and followed it with a decisive
win over over 16f in the Champion 4yr Old Hurdle at Punchestown, suddenly becomes a
“slow horse”. On top of that, she finishes in front of Petit Mouchoir, who didn’t
look like getting to her at the end of their race at Down Royal earlier this month,
and is now 5lbs better off!! Am I missing something? Now before someone thinks I think I’m smarter about horses than Gordon Elliot, can I
put up my hands and say he has forgotten more than I’ll ever know. Trying to make sense
of this isn’t easy, but it has crossed my mind that Elliot gets a Champion Hurdle candidate
from Mullins, and she gets stuffed in her first run for him. His comments after the Down Royal
race were made so quickly and were so dismissive of the horse after her comeback run, that it
threw me at the time. I have to wonder if Elliot was being defensive because the horse hadn’t
destroyed the field, as it was expected to at 1/2, as she had in her last 2 races for Mullins. It wouldn’t be the first time the “second string”, although I struggle to call her that, turns
the tables. I just hope Elliot gives her the chance.November 24, 2016 at 09:19 #1274000BG, I don’t think anyone is telling Elliott how to train but it is mystifying how much perceived deterioration he has managed to produce from Apple’s Jade in just one run. We might be talking about two stone. Trainers are not all experts in placing horses and that is what this discussion is about.
November 24, 2016 at 09:32 #1274001Looks an intriguing contest
I did Sceau Royal in both his wins this season and had a little on this at 3/1 a few weeks back.
This race looks trickier to weigh up because Apples Jade was electric last season and horses can improve a hell of a lot from a first outing of the season to the next and a change of yards or anything could have set her back. For Elliot to come here next I’d reckon she has shown something better at home.
I’m happy though to stick with Kings horse who has at least put in a couple of decent runs already.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 24, 2016 at 17:21 #1274023Pleased for BG that she has been confirmed. I don’t remember Gigginstown double-handed outside of the Festivals. That said I still have a nasty feeling that this might be an exercise in vindication for Elliott. I can’t understand why Cooper has been instructed to ride the other one. He couldn’t possibly have made that choice himself.
November 24, 2016 at 18:05 #1274026Who knows what AJ will do here, and I’m yet to be convinced about S Royal, who might want good ground anyway. Am happy to have a fiver at 25s on the old-timer Hidden Cyclone. After last Saturday’s performances, who’d be put off by age?

Cheers Stilvi, I’m glad she has been given the chance, and agreed that the whole thing has been a bit
confusing, I’m not sure what Elliot’s take on this is. I think she’s good enough, and I don’t think that
Jack Kennedy will be any hindrance, I think he’s a top young jockey. I’m still keen on her.November 25, 2016 at 13:16 #1274084Another happy to chance Hidden Cyclone. Beat AJ’s conqueror in October and seems to be in cracking form over hurdles. If AJ turns up anything like then she’ll canter home, so would prefer to back something at a bigger price.
November 25, 2016 at 19:32 #1274130I have had a speculative bet on IRVING at 6/1. Jockey booking is a plus, won the race two years ago and when he is good he is very good.
I just hope the good Irving turns up!!

Good luck Raymo, yes he is bit of a Jekyll and Hyde and looks to down tools at times, but when
he is on a going day he is a force to be reckoned with. 6/1 is a decent price
November 26, 2016 at 00:58 #1274207I see paddy power have cut apples jade to evens now for this! Must be some confidence behind her.
November 26, 2016 at 01:07 #1274209Apples jade by a furlong
November 26, 2016 at 13:49 #1274325agree with Raymo61 IRVING won valuable races last year and always seems best first time out
November 26, 2016 at 14:52 #1274330Sceau Royal for me and a little bit of money on Mirsaale to be in the first 3 places.
