Was just looking back at Quito De La Rocque’s run in the National Trial at Punchestown. He ran a really encouraging race off top weight… would it be utter folly not to have a £5 E/W saver on him? You know… just in case?
Tidal Bay, Monbeg Dude and Long Run are my only bets so far. I can’t decide for my outsider bet between Quito, Balthazar King, Battle Group, Rainbow Hunter and Golan Way… i don’t want to have 8 horses against the field
What’s a guy to do!?March 28, 2014 at 23:10 #4735572 for me so far
HAWKES POINT
LAST TIME D’ALBAIN
This is going to be a soft/heavy national I promise!
March 29, 2014 at 00:09 #473563I looked at Golan Way cause he was a very good hurdler but he’s probably the only flat bred type in the race which put me off. Someone has pointed out that Battlegroup has an entry for another race this week and, the bad news is I’ve backed him. A week to go and on top of not having a clue as to which horse will win it’s impossible to work out which horses will run [apart from T43, Tidal Bay, the Dude and Long Run, that is].
March 29, 2014 at 00:24 #473565A few have knocked
Rocky Creek
‘s chance and he seems totally ignored here.
It is worth checking that he failed when warm favourite on heavy ground behind
The Giant Bolster
and he had
Lord Windermere
back in 8th place when runner up in the Hennessey.
Not bad efforts from those two in the Gold Cup and there are very few with that level of form on their CVs going into the race.
I’m happy to double my bet up at 25/1 with very few making any appeal at the head of the market.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 29, 2014 at 01:50 #473577It was a great run Peter, and didn’t go unnoticed. He’s ran some howlers over the last couple of years, but he’s also got some fine efforts in the bag too, to go with that Punchestown run. He’s plummeted down the weights too, and has the look of a horse who isn’t that badly treated.
He requires a bit of patience, and as someone who’s kept betting him regularly for 3 years now, it ain’t been easy. He’s survived the latest forfeit stage, the one he was withdrawn at last year, so better sign that he may be going…………..though if you do bet him, even if he passes The Stands, during The Parade, I still wouldn’t bet against him being a late withdrawal.
The kind of horse who these NRNB concessions were invented for

I had a go 6 places each way @ 66’s, with the NRFB concession.
March 29, 2014 at 10:58 #473602So far I have done Ante post bets on Monbeg Dude at 20s; Way Prince at 66/1 and also I fancy Hunt Ball if he runs as he has been brought over from the USA but the ground may be too soft as likly to rain all week. Anyone else got any tips?
March 29, 2014 at 10:59 #473603Further to this I don’t think Long run and Tea for Three will get the trip. Tea faded badly in the Welsh and Long Run is not the horse he was.
March 29, 2014 at 11:52 #473612I reckon that T43 will find a couple too good for him this year again but [even though I haven’t backed him cause I missed the price on him] I’d love to see him win as he’s such a big, fine staying chaser and it’s good to see horses like that doing well.
March 29, 2014 at 11:56 #473614The horse I’m desperate to see get into the race is One in a Milan because he’s got Montelimar/Alleged on the dam side and I’m sure he’ll be better on good ground. I like the way he had a spin over hurdles the other day as well. Thank goodness I didn’t back the Bog Warrior but I have backed Quito. Scared to turn the pooter on these days in case another of my ante post isn’t running
just been told as well that Paul Moloney has a briliant record in the race for placed horses.Win or lose I just want to see how OIAM runs.March 30, 2014 at 17:56 #473732I have OIAM down at number 45 currently, so im sure he should get in, is bog warrior not running? if so the i’ll update my lists and that would make OIAM number 44

March 30, 2014 at 18:05 #473734Bog Warrior won yesterday [and I didn’t back him
]so I’d assume he won’t run in the National as well. He was my dark horse [well, one of them].March 30, 2014 at 18:08 #473735Bog Warrior won yesterday [and I didn’t back him

March 30, 2014 at 18:09 #473736There are a lot of horses on 10.2 with OIAM but his OR is lower than most. Lost track of who is where now but scared to look too closely.
March 30, 2014 at 18:16 #473738According to TRP Godsmejudge is out and OIAM will be last one in after tomorrow [Swing Bill next]. Don’t quote me, though.
March 30, 2014 at 18:45 #473742I hope, for my Dads sake if nothing else, that Soll squeezes in. Ran such a good race last year, it’d be a shame for him to miss the boat by so little…
Lemme guess, Dad…
Tidal Bay
Mr Moonshine
Soll
March 30, 2014 at 19:43 #473747Last year’s Scottish National winner Godsmejudge is one of at least seven horses set to miss out from those already guaranteed a start.
Trainer Alan King said: "I couldn’t get him right in time. I will give him another week to see if he can go for the Scottish National. Walkon will run and Wayne Hutchinson rides him."
