Not too far way now, and one of my favourite Flat Races.
Far too many too mention at this stage, but 2 jumping out at the moment.
Prince of Johanne, who won it in 2011, hasn’t stopped improving since then, and keeps popping up in these big handicaps. Obviously a lot higher than when he won it, but then he’s an even better horse now. Certainly of serious interest to me……as he usually is.
Had a poor week at York a few weeks back, but one of the few highlights was Sam Sharp. Like the horse a lot, and was hoping he’d get an entry for this, as think he looks the type for it. Not certain to get in, and entered up on Saturday at Newbury too, but if he makes it, will not go “un-bet” by myself.
Far, far too many to mention for now, but those are the 2 that appeal most at the moment.
The other 27 on the shortlist to follow
September 24, 2013 at 18:46 #452271Funny you should say that VTC as I have backed Chancery ante post as the trainer has worked wonders with this horse and my second selection is Sam Sharp
September 24, 2013 at 21:17 #452289I’ve watched
Chapter Seven
and
Strictly Silver
all season and both deserve a big one like this, both look ideal candidates at around the 25/1 mark too.
September 24, 2013 at 22:39 #452296Chapter Seven
has been knocking on the door the last couple of weeks and really deserves to win this, but I can’t resist the flashy and beautifully marked
Top Notch Tonto
, a real poser who sprang a surprise by winning a Gp. 3 at about 20/1 while I was on holiday after I’d been following him faithfully. He has been beaten by
Haafaguinea
who beat Chapter Seven on Saturday and for me these are my 3 against the field, Haafhd has been doing very well this season.

Should have read Haafhd has been doing very well
for me
this season. (Midnight Flower in particular and Beacon Lady to name but a few).
Thanks JJM very efficientThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...September 27, 2013 at 17:16 #452501Red Avenger and Code Of Honor for me. Red Avenger has been generally consistent and ran well on the ‘wrong ground’ last time. He is ideally suited by ground that has firm in the title and also has a jock on board who is not frightened of being in front. Add to that he has both course form and form in big fields. So plenty of pluses. The worry with Code Of Honor is the current form of the Candy stable.
September 27, 2013 at 21:49 #452579I like Chapter Seven too. This unusual trip could be exactly what he wants. 36 on Betfair looks decent value
Saver on young Murphy – Jack’s Revenge
I’d have thought old Fred could have stuck another 400 0n the winner’s prize money to take it up to 100 grand
September 27, 2013 at 22:10 #452591I can’t teach you but i’ll Educate you..
September 28, 2013 at 11:23 #452719I liked Educate earlier in the season and backed him AP for Ascot but he’s managed to go up another 6lbs despite being placed only once since. An RPR of 110 suggests there should be more improvement in him, and that Haydock run backs this up, but he does have a less than ideal draw and too much weight going by recent winners. Has the right jockey on though.
Code Of Honour for a place.
September 28, 2013 at 11:45 #452727Forgive, Boonga Roogeta, Jack’s Revenge and Pacific Heights. Only because we drove past a Betfreds on the way back from the vets this morning and I couldn’t resist popping in.
September 28, 2013 at 14:31 #452780I’m keen on Code Of Honor, he impressed me winning at Sandown in July and has run two good races at Goodwood over 10f, I think the 9f will suit him well with the pace they go in this race. Still 22s on offer, I reckon that’s a bit of value.
I’m also having a little e/w on Robert the painter. He very much looked like an improving horse winning 3 times in July and August, and he races off a mark 26 lbs higher as a result. However he runs off the same mark that he ran a good race when 3rd last time out at Ayr, keeping on over 8f. He has run over 10f and was a good 2nd at Hamilton last year over 9f, which is a stiff 9f with an uphill finish, he wasn’t stopping. 50-1 is way to big.
It’s the type of race you could make a case for most of these, so good luck whatever you’re on.
September 28, 2013 at 14:57 #452785That’ll do me ! A ‘ silly ‘ couple of quid forecast in case Educate beat my pick.
That’s how you ride him, Jamie !!!
September 28, 2013 at 15:03 #452786I said to myself recently that I’d just back whatever Johnny Murtagh rides each weekend but never listen to my own advice. Congratulations to those who backed him.
September 28, 2013 at 15:16 #452787Bugger……well done to Johnny Murtagh, he’s the best around at the moment, but I watched Code of Honor sitting out the back for longer than I would have liked. When he did pull him clear, he finished with a wet sail and in another stride etc etc…..ok I know that’s racing, but I bet Fergus Sweeney is saying exactly that to himself now.
At least he was worthy of an e/w at 22s which makes it not just so bad.
Well done Mark, a cracking one two.
Stilvi, you must be feeling a little like me at the moment. A gnashing of teeth shared is a gnashing of teeth halvedSeptember 28, 2013 at 15:25 #452789Unfortunately, I was actually praying the horse didn’t get there as I ended up only backing Red Avenger. Probably feeling more cheesed than you as that horse had formlines with the second but has run an absolute shocker presumably because the trainer has messed up by giving the horse one run too many on soft ground last time. I appreciate when you get touched off like that the each-way doesn’t feel like much compensation. Personally, I thought the winner would struggle on the ground but he has toughed it out well and the post came (just) in time.
September 28, 2013 at 17:37 #452801They should get Code Of Honour out again sharpish. It’s circumnavigated that whole near side and was just about last maybe 1 1/2 furlongs out. Handicapper won’t like that.
