According to DM, Peddlers not certain to run in The Arkle and The Jewson maybe the race he heads to. SS scaring him off!?
I’d imagine he’s just keeping his options open. I can’t see Peddlers Cross heading anywhere but the Arkle myself.
February 29, 2012 at 21:16 #394241Could be less than 8 runners here, which speaks volumes.
February 29, 2012 at 21:47 #394249Diabolical hurdlers don’t finish second in Champion Hurdles. Peddlers Cross was never that bad.
Kauto Star is and should always be remembered as a great jumper of fences imho. You don’t win two Tingle Creeks, four Betfairs, five King George’s, two gold cups, two James Nicholsons and an Old Roan if you aren’t a great jumper. Both of his wins this season were down to his jumping finding every other horse out.
Personally I think Sprinter Sacre jumps like a stag. I would take him on with Bog Warrior but that looks highly unlikely to happen so I think he’ll probably win comfortably.

This seems a bit bizarre or is it an old story that’s found it’s way back onto the main page in error?
March 1, 2012 at 09:20 #394283I can see the course record being smashed in this race.
If you fancy Al Ferof then ask for 10/1 in running on Betfair as he will appear to be struggling with 2 to jump.
The fact that Donald McCain is now saying PC is not a deffo for the Arkle is worrying as he did the same with Whiteoak a few years back, switching from the mares hurdle to the champion hurdle for which she had no chance.
These trainers who hang back to the last minute really annoy me, why can’t Dave Pipe come clean and say where Grands Crus will run, or at least say what events will determine which race he runs in. They do these stable tours on RP but never ask the question. Presumably he is going for the RSA but if Kauto or Long Run fail to get there he will switch.
BTW this is the real Champion Chase this year, the race masquerading as that one is the veterans race.
March 1, 2012 at 11:11 #394293Deleted, thought I’d start a new thread and not risk hijacking this one.
Value Is EverythingMarch 1, 2012 at 16:17 #394326I’m afraid I will never put Kauto star down as a good jumper, there were times he should have fallen and yet he got away with mistakes others wouldn’t have, thats testimony to the horses natural ability to correct himself in such situations. It helps when you have a jockey like Ruby Walsh on top too.Dont kid yourselves Denman was a natural either,he had the brute strength to uproot one and get away with it!
No I’m afraid when it comes to jumping fences there’s only one horse I can think of who really was athletic, brave and beautiful and thats the late great
Best Mate
! 79 times he jumped the Cheltenham fences and 79 times he cleared them picking up 3 Gold Cups en-route!
I doubt Best Mate would have won one in this era. He was running against some pretty mediocre ( maybe slightly better than that ) horses. Keen Leader, Commanche Court and Sir Rembrandt ?

We now have Alan King fecking about with Medermit. He nominated the Ryanair as his Festival target after he was second in that handicap in December.
March 1, 2012 at 16:55 #394334Peddlers drifting big-time. 4s NRNB with Lads now.
Gone big on SS, but partook on the Paddy P offer with Peddlers as a saver to nothing, bl**dy typical if it now gets re-routed to Jewson !!!

Now that would really piss me off. Having Sir Des Champs’ path not been decided one way or the other is one thing, but just as it appears as if the Jewson is his final destination, Peddlers Cross has to come and gate crash!
March 1, 2012 at 17:12 #394338Anybody else think that 4’s NRNB with Laddys on PC is a pretty good e/w bet???

Boz – if there’s one thing I take away from this festival (apart from a bundle of cash!!) it’s to tread very, very carefully with the novice races in years to come. Never known a festival like it.

The connections are perfectly entitled to wait. The simple reason they haven’t said is they haven’t made their mind up yet. The trainers job is to do his best for the horse and owner and sometimes that means a wait and see game.

Of course. But McCain has been talking of the Arkle and the Arkle only since Xmas and in very bullish terms. This recent downbeat report is quite staggering in that it would appear they have not been totally happy with the horse since Kempton. This is what is getting my back up, simply because he is 100% contradicting the message he’s been sending out.
I understand, just like anyone else on here that the horse comes first and Owners pay the bills blahedeeblah, but honest updates on plans and wellbeing are all we ask for the we can make our judgements on whether to bet or not.

Because the main reason appears to be a fundamental split between trainer and owner over the target, and if you are trying to persuade someone to your point of view you can’t come out and tell everyone where your weaknesses are in the argument.
March 3, 2012 at 11:59 #394659The thing I don’t understand about PC is the idea that if they’re not happy with him, he’ll go in the Jewson. Surely he needs to be 100% wherever he goes?
March 3, 2012 at 13:26 #394676Who can blame them for running scared of the beast sprinter sacre.
They aren’t stupid, they know the Jewson is far more winnable
