I think Zaynar has every chance of throwing the cat among the Arkle pigeons tomorrow – certainly over-priced at 9s.
February 16, 2012 at 22:31 #391752I think S S will win tomorrow (or at least I hope so) but I have no interest in backing 8/15 shots, or whatever his price is.
February 17, 2012 at 00:02 #391778Andrew Lynch said he thinks Peddler’s Cross will outstay Sprinter Sacre and Davy Russell agreed.
Topspeed ratings not that interesting for this race. I thought there was a clear pattern until I got to 2004 before I found out Well Chief was by far the lowest rated winner of the Arkle of the 8. He’d only run once and was getting 4lbs but still by 25 points the lowest rated.
And then I found out Moscow Flyer was the 2nd lowest rated and it was obvious that there’s no pattern.
Only clear thing is that all 30 1-2-3 horses in the 10 runnings were rated at least 100 by topspeed. 106 the lowest rated of the 30, but he was getting 4lbs which puts him on 110. Armaturk was marginally lower on 109.
Doesn’t help us one teeny bit this year.
Sprinter Sacre 146
Peddler’s Cross 134
Al Ferof 132
Cue Card 138If you wish to use the argument that Moscow Flyer would’ve posted a good figure were it not for falling and Well Chief had only run once, you can couple that with the other 8 winners posting a figure of at least 137. Seems a bit unfair on Kalahari King though, only rated 125. Kicking King on 129 would probably have won had he carried the same weight as Well Chief too.
February 17, 2012 at 12:17 #391851Well that was impressive
February 17, 2012 at 12:18 #391852What…a…horse.
Shocking bridle horse
February 17, 2012 at 12:20 #391853Thats a monster, and really THE Cheltenham banker now.
Anyone seriously thinking of taking him on should start to question whether they are just being obstinate, or whether or not they’re actually in the right game.
February 17, 2012 at 12:20 #391854Monster???
I might just lay off my 8s and 7s on al ferof. I have gradually come to the conclusion that sprinter is the real deal and i won’t win.
Alferof is smart and jumps well enough but he is tiny and surely will get jumped and ran into the ground!!!!
February 17, 2012 at 12:21 #391855That was very impressive…so classy.
Would have liked to see him make one mistake before the Arkle but thats just nit picking.
February 17, 2012 at 12:22 #3918565/4 for the game spirit though. What a price!!!! Kerching
February 17, 2012 at 12:25 #391858Well that was impressive
Did you see him down the back straight ? He got in slightly close to one fence but actually jumped big through the top.
Awesome.
I want to see something take him on. That to me looked over 170.

Whilst i love the horse and think he’ll win, taking him on at Cheltenham isn’t stupid. He has yet to jump round an undulating course like that. However, he appears to have the lot and the manner in which he jumps suggests he’ll act anywhere.
I don’t think he pulled himself to the front because he’s impatient and doesn’t settle, it’s because he’s so much better than the others
Barry thinks he’s the best he’s ridden – that is all you need to hear.
February 17, 2012 at 12:57 #391868The whole undulating track, won’t get up the hill arguments just look to me now like clutching at straws.
Look at the size of him- he’ll dwarf the likes of Al Ferof. He’s just a beast pure and simple and looks like Azertyuiop mark 2, a great big powerhouse of a horse who simply bullies his rivals into submission in a very crude, unsubtle but highly effective way.
Sketti is right to try and get out of Al Ferof bets. To be honest, if Sprinter Sacre wasn’t in the Arkle I wouldn’t be confident of the grey winning anyway. As you say he’s tiny and to be Sprinter Sacres size around those big park fences at Cheltenham is a huge advantage, especially as a novice.
February 17, 2012 at 13:11 #391876As a backer and supporter of Al Ferof, all I will say is this.
B0llocks.
February 17, 2012 at 13:25 #391889Fair enough, everyones entitled to his opinion.
But all he’ll get at Chelts is a diminishing view of the beast’s backside.
February 17, 2012 at 13:29 #391893Sorry, I meant b0llocks as in that I’ve done my dough!

It aint over til the fat lady sings, but she’s gargling in her dressing room.
February 17, 2012 at 13:37 #391899Oh right! LOL.
Yeah if you are on anything else in the race and that performance doesn’t scare you, then its hard to say what will.
Kim Bailey thinks that its the best perfomance by a novice he’s seen for many years.
Track record as well I believe.
