Had decided a few days ago that this is the thread I’d have for next year. Won’t make a fool of myself with details of my bets, and instead will provide a service to people with a collation of connections’ quotes about intentions to run.
Just realised I should start the thread now, instead of just after the 2010 race.
Will start off as reference with a listing of the 2010 ratings:-

February 23, 2010 at 19:50 #278662Finally got my finger out:-
Willie Mullins, who has 10 engaged, said: "I will run as many as I can, but I think Deutschland (10st 12lb) is too young, although he will come over one day.
"Arbor Supreme (10st 8lb) has a good chance. He will love the ground, has a lovely weight and is a nice age. He wouldn’t want the ground soft as he can’t jump out of it.
"Snowy Morning (10st 13lb) would be the best of mine, but I don’t think Ballytrim (10st 1lb) or Pomme Tiepy (9st 12lb) will get in. Jayo (10st 10lb) is too young and although Dooneys Gate (10st 11lb) is a nine-year-old, we have only just found out he doesn’t stay.
"Beroni (10st 13lb) has a lot of weight, and while Irish Invader (11st 5lb) showed he loved it last year, I am astounded at the weight he has got. He is entered at the weekend and may run then and will have one, if not two, outings before the National."

FFS, no wonder I ain’t heard of Jayo – he’s being aimed at the Arkle this year!
No, wait a minute. That was last year. Forgot that we are now in 2010.
February 23, 2010 at 20:08 #278671Aimigayle was a horse being mentioned last year, but she hasn’t run since the Autumn.

February 23, 2010 at 20:16 #278677I’m already thinking that Chelsea Harbour might be an interesting horse for next year. Has been injured this season, and I’m not sure that he’ll get an ideal preparation for the 2010 running. If he were to come down a few pounds for next year . . .(yeah, I know, probably won’t get into the 2011 race . . .)
Tom Mullins would like to get one more run into Chelsea Harbour, possibly over hurdles, before a third crack at the John Smith’s Grand National.
The 10-year-old was ninth in the Aintree marathon in 2008 but fell at the third last year, and he has been handed 10st 11lb for this season’s renewal.
Mullins said: "It’s not a bad weight, I’d be happy enough with it. I think the bottom weight on the day will be about 10st 5lb. The top 60-odd horses this year only go down to 10st 7lb."
He added: "That means he could only be giving 5lb or 6lb to the bottom weight in the race, so it doesn’t look too bad.
"He had an injury but he’s back in flying form. I’d love to run him once more. It could be over hurdles, but it depends where it fits in."
Chelsea Harbour has not been in action since being well beaten behind Denman in the Hennessy at Newbury in November.February 24, 2010 at 00:47 #278750Finally got my finger out:-

Jayo is only a tiny wee thing Gerald. They’d be mad to ever risk him over the fences at Liverpool.
Arbor Supreme would be the only one of Willie’s I’d be remotely interested in. Real dour staying type. Could finally break the JP/McCoy National hoodoo!
February 24, 2010 at 20:59 #278895In his Racing Post Stable Tour, Peter Bowen came across as being very keen on the Grand National. I might quote it later, if I can find it, and if it is illuminating.
This keenness is shown by his willingness to run a horse that has only had 4 chase starts.

By Keith Hamer, Press Association Sport
Trainer Peter Bowen believes Mumbles Head can put two disappointing runs behind him when he returns to the track.
The nine-year-old novice chaser has had a break since being found to be under the weather when well-beaten at both Haydock and Wetherby.
He had shown useful form in his two previous starts at Newcastle, where he won a beginners’ chase before running the smart Irish novice Weapon’s Amnesty to four lengths.
Bowen has given Mumbles Head an entry in the John Smith’s Grand National but does not feel he will make the cut on 10st 3lb and may run him in the Topham Chase at the same April meeting at Aintree.
"I don’t think he’s got a chance of getting in the race, anything below 10st 7lb, 10st 8lb will struggle," said Bowen.
"He’ll probably have to go for the Topham. He’s going to be a decent long-distance chaser and
I see him as a future Grand National horse
.
"He’s not going to Cheltenham and will probably wait for Aintree.
"He was held up with the weather but he came back from Wetherby with a dirty trachea wash.
"You can write off his last two runs as that’s nothing like his form. He’s having a bit of a holiday before going to Aintree."

Gerald didn’t Findley say this for 2009 too, before pulling him out, déjà vu.March 20, 2010 at 00:51 #284188May have done, or more likely said something in 2008. Would help explain why the price was so low last year. Did Nicholls say something this season to stop any GN gamble happening?

Think I read or heard Paul Nicholls is not to bothered in winning a national, he rather win a champion hurdle. Maybe that’s why he’s got a poor record. However I won’t automatically dismiss his runners without evaluating their chances despite their trainer.Ps glad you keeping a record of national quotes for 2011 and if I see anything I’ll pop it on here, unless you beat me to it.
March 20, 2010 at 14:53 #284288Okay, Rummy, here’s one I’ve been keeping for a couple of weeks, from the Weekender.
. . . Roulez Cool is also entered in the John Smith’s Grand National, so Waley-Cohen’s pre-Christie’s strategy had Aintree in mind too.
He explains: "I wanted to run him in a hunter chase after the national weights were published [February 16] but allowing enough time for a month’s break before Cheltenham . . .
"He’s rated 148 under rules and has been given 11st in the National. If he runs really well at Cheltenham and the handicapper sticks him up 7lb we might have to run [at Aintree] this year – if not we could wait 12 months."

Well, I’ve sort of got the first part of the plan right.
Chelsea Harbour
misses the rest of the season. I had rather hoped it would run, and not well, so that its price would be big next year.
Lets hope he makes it back to the track next season, and with all guns blazing. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of this horse yet.
Can’t be rsed to dig out the
Kilcrea Castle
story, but the plan is to go for the 2011 race.
April 1, 2010 at 13:05 #286949Bang goes another of my 100/1 hopes.
April 7, 2010 at 11:26 #288223At the moment, the trainer of the Irish National winner, Bluesea Cracker, is hesitant about running in the National, because she is a mare, and is thus more valuable than a gelding.
Came as a bit of a surprise to me, as I had gotten out of the habit of regarding the Grand National as a more dangerous race than others.

No class one win, no win close to 4 miles or even 3.5 miles. I know on paper he should stay but noticed with other presenting prodigies that they start to fade after 24-26 furlongs. I thought Niche Market would have ran well this national, but wrong and I’d don’t want to be biased but Presenting Prodigy will be the first ones coming off my list in future years, or until they prove themselves in a high class race at 4 miles.
I say this because I’m not sure did one win a 4 miles race in a lower class.
