I don’t know if there’s much point updating this thread given that the creator is not coming back, but I might as well.
Important races tonight as far as the big races go – Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup, Melbourne Cup.
Underwood Stakes, 1800m, Group 1 wfa, Caulfield
Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, 1400m, Group 1 Handicap, Caulfield (only, and only, if Doubtful Jack wins)
Naturilism Stakes, 2000m, Group 3 Handicap, Caulfield (Fanjura Vs Moudre)Hill Stakes, 1900m, Group 2, wfa, Rosehill
Many other important races heading towards the Caulfield Guineas, Thousand Guineas etc.
All I want is Parables to win and she should.
September 17, 2010 at 23:00 #318006Why is the creator not coming back? What happened to Gerald? Sorry I’ve kinda been MIA.
Did anyone see the runs of Bauer and Campanologist yesterday (last night Australian time)?
I thought Bauer was a good run 2nd up, Campanologist was fine, I think both may go into quarantine now.

That and an update under a different user-name on a well known "purple" site.
I don’t know if you can access this in Australia or not.

The replay of the Bauer, Campanologist race is the "Arc Trial (we all know it is nothing of the sort) at Newbury.
September 17, 2010 at 23:24 #318012Anyway, I would say from watching the replay, Bauer’s run had plenty of promise to it in 4th given who the trainer is. Stayed on when put under pressure, looked a touch one paced, but easily his best run in a Group race in Britain – both before and after his injury.
Campanolgist run up-to what Campanolgist is imo by finishing 3rd. 7lb (3.5kg) penalty for winning Group 1’s in Germany. In Britain he is a Group 2/3 horse, and under the weight he comes out around where Rainbow Peak finished.
They finished within a head or so of each other – beaten 6 lengths by Dangerous Midge, who is being targeted at the BC Turf.
September 17, 2010 at 23:26 #318013Ok that’s a bit bizarre
Yeah Arc Trial is a bit of a stretch…I can’t believe they are thinking Dangerous Midge could measure up in a Breeders Cup Turf. I doubt it personally.
Do you think Bauer may come to Australia jose? I know Campanologist is.
September 17, 2010 at 23:36 #318014I can’t be of any help with running plans for any racehorse on the planet, sadly. I just read the quotes like anyone would when they are available. Someone else might have an idea if there was any comment from the Cumani’s after the race to RUK. And I would not even know if anyone who could give a quote was there.
September 18, 2010 at 01:10 #318022Something else that was bizarre were the articles about how Gai Waterhouse stated the Newcastle Cup winner she trained would win The Metropolitan when it wasn’t entered. I realise she is the ultimate in hype, and even manages to make Coolmore over here look 100% modest in comparison, but she surely never managed that?
September 20, 2010 at 16:06 #318451Interesting one Andy, SF doesn’t look a Melbourne type at all to me
That comment is most likely to bring you some embarrassment BB.
SF is exactly the right type IMO and I have selected Mourilyan, All the Good, Mahler and Delta Blues in recent times.
He comes and our local contingent are in for a huge fight.
September 21, 2010 at 14:41 #318606I strongly doubt it.
SF has been on the go for ages already, has been in peak form for ages already, is a galloper who doesn’t really quicken, has too much weight and is not in the same league as that other resolute galloper, So You Think (now there’s a horse).
When/if he gets to Australia and faces the shock and awe of how their races are run, he’ll do well to be top 6.
But good luck with it.
September 21, 2010 at 15:09 #318609The best thing about SF is that he is just another horse who I will put a line through. Something will stay on for a place without ever having looked like winning….
And when is Lloyd Williams going to return those two plodders, Alandi and Mourayan, to Europe?
September 22, 2010 at 13:52 #318718Latest News from Racing Post……….
Australia: Rite Of Passage, as short as 12-1 with British bookmakers for the Melbourne Cup, has been ruled out of the race by trainer Dermot Weld, who will make a decision on the participation of stablemate Profound Beauty in two weeks.
Ascot Gold Cup winner Rite Of Passage missed the Irish Field St Leger this month and Weld, who has won the Melbourne Cup twice, said on Wednesday: "Rite Of Passage will not be travelling toAustralia."
Profound Beauty, who was second in the Irish St Leger, is a general 14-1 chance for the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 2 and entered quarantine on Wednesday.
"We will wait and see how she is and how she is training and discuss the situation with her owners in about two weeks’ time before making a final decision on the Melbourne Cup," Weld added.
September 22, 2010 at 15:27 #318733I’d be surprised if Profound Beauty didn’t come. I’m a little disappointed that Rite of Passage isn’t coming, I seriously thought Dermot was pulling a bluff with the Irish St Leger.
So this is the international contingent – not including those former internationals now with Australian trainers.
Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup
Manighar – Luca Cumani
Mr Medici – Peter Ho
Tokai Trick – Kenji Nonaka
Becqu Adoree – Luca Cumani (possibly going to the Geelong Cup)
Stanstill – Allan Swinbank (possibly going to the Geelong Cup)Geelong Cup and Melbourne Cup
Americain – Alain de Royer Dupre
Drunken Sailor – Luca CumaniMelbourne Cup
Profound Beauty – Dermot Weld
Sans Frontieres – Jeremy Noseda
Campanologist – Saeed bin Suroor
Holberg – Saeed bin Suroor
Eastern Aria – Mark Johnston
Illustrious Blue – William Knight (not sure if he is racing for Knight or for new trainer David Payne)
Bauer – Luca CumaniSeptember 24, 2010 at 08:46 #319040Back to horse racing for a second. And for once I’m delighted it is about a few races thousands of miles away.
SF will definitely run if fit in the Melbourne Cup.
There is a "Cups" trial in the form of the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley at 11:45 am BST. Horses of obvious interest in some way are Alcopop, Above Average, Rainbow Styling, Precedence, Linton and Basaltico. I’ve been kind in including the two former European plodders, although Above Average isn’t that bad. I’ll catch the replay on bigpond, who for some reason think it makes sense to prevent overseas viewers watching the TVN stream live, but don’t mind us in Britain watching replays.

A nice win to Bart’s Precedence there following on from his previous good performance as reported on this thread.
Another sterling performance from next years Kings Stand winner Hay List in the Manikato as well. The Spring in Melbourne is warming nicely.
Now if only my team can win the Grand Final tomorrow …………….
September 24, 2010 at 12:18 #319070Hay List is just scary.
And he looks so big that tight bends were an inconvenience to him at MV.
September 24, 2010 at 22:34 #319159Relevant Cup races in the morning.
1st at Randwick is the most relevant of any race heading towards either the Caulfield or Melbourne Cups’ to my eye. Herculian Prince is having a paid-for track gallop, and to give us the chance for Waterhouse to tell us how the sire of HP sired a winner of some 5000m Steeplechase in NZ.
Theseo vs More Joyous could be quite something, provided they don’t set it up for either Danleigh or Black Piranha. I’m taking Theseo, but it is a race I think anyone can just watch and enjoy.
September 25, 2010 at 05:44 #319175Herculian Prince choked down and finished last of the five runners.
He’s been eased from 5-2 favourite for The Metropolitan out to 9-1.
A horse did something very similar in 1993 or 1994, trained by David Hayes, his name was Glastonbury. Finished last in the Colin Stephen as a hot favourite, then came out and won the Metropolitan at 25-1.
With a tongue tie on next week, I think he could atone.
